Tom Pelissero of USA Today is reporting that the Seattle Seahawks have made a trade for Jacksonville defensive tackle D’ Anthony Smith.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports the Seahawks gave up a conditional draft pick to get the 6-2, 300-pound defensive tackle because they didn’t know if he would fall far enough on the waiver wire for the team to claim him.

The Seahawks need defensive line depth, with Brandon Mebane (groin), Tony McDaniel (groin), Michael Bennett (toe) and Jordan Hill (strained bicep) all dealing with injuries.

Still no word on the rest of the cuts, so stay tuned.

  1. To give up a draft pick for this guy, they must feel he has more to offer than any D-linemen that end up on the cut list.

That said, are the Jags that deep enough on their own D-line to warrant this?

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D'Anthony_Smith Selected by JAX with the #74 pick in the 2010 draft, spent the first two years on IR.

In 53 pass-rush snaps of 83 played this preseason for Jax, DL D.Smith got a sack, 2 hits and 2 hurries, missed one tackle, made 4 solo tackles and 3 assists.

  3. Saw the list: WR Phil Bates, DT Michael Brooks, DT Dewayne Cherrington, WR Arceto Clark, TE Darren Fells, DB Winston Guy, WR Chris Harper, TE Cooper Helfet, DT Jaye Howard, G Rishaw Johnson, DT Clinton McDonald, TE Sean McGrath, DB Ron Parker, LB Ty Powell, QB Brady Quinn, FB Michael Robinson, G Ryan Seymour, DE DeShawn Shead, DT Sealver Siliga, G Jared Smith, WR Bryant Walters, CB Antoine Winfield

  4. Southendzone says:

McGrath was a surprise. That’s too bad I don’t think they could fit his beard under the salary cap

  5. If they liked Smith more than McDonald hen he must be good.

Not surprised they cut McGrath. He was not seahawk-caliber talent. They’ll sign a te off waivers.

  6. Hate the thought of losing WR B.Walters, hope he makes it to the PS.

  7. wabubba67 says:

Gus doing us a slight favor? Maybe this lineman didn’t fit in his scheme but knew he would be a good fit for us? Unofficial compensation for his recent waiver wire pickups?

  8. We’re keeping just 2 TE’s ? Is that correct? Deal in the works?

  9. raymaines says:

OK, I admit it. I didn’t see the ‘Hawks trading FOR someone.
