The Seahawks made one roster move before practice today, announcing this morning that the team had parted ways with cornerback Will Blackmon.

Blackmon confirmed as much via Twitter this morning.

The Seahawks also announced that they have released receiver Donovan Kemp, who was on the league’s transaction report yesterday as being released.

The moves put Seattle at 79 players, and needing a couple more roster moves to get down the required NFL limit of 75 players before today’s 1 p.m. Pacific Time deadline.

The Seahawks will practice today and tomorrow at the VMAC in preparation for the team’s final preseason game on Thursday against Oakland at CentruryLinkField.

  1. Blackmon will catch on w/ another team to be sure. I just hope it’s not one in this div because the dude can play some CB. He’d upgrade S.F.’s sorry secondary, probably help out the Rams too.

  2. Bummer he got robbed of that INT vs GB, that was one heckuva play. I was rooting for him, but talent being equal, youth wins out. Now please cut/trade Winston Guy, he’s as bad as Kurt Coleman if not worse IMO.

  3. RW3 & Tony KornHoler will both be on the new ‘Olbermann’ show tonight.
Maybe Russ can talk about breaking his legs..

mocarob says ‘nope, I’m going to keep using RW3, even though many on this blog have expressed great displeasure at its use.’
Meh, personally, I don’t like it either. Too much like RG3. RW is his own man. Besides, RG3 just rolls off the tongue WAY better than ‘are double you three’. My $.02.

  5. MoSeahawk12 says:

If you must use a “3” in a name, go with one of the most talented players in the league….Our very own, Earl Thomas or ET3. The 3 actually makes sense as he is third generation and has changed his jersey this season in honor of his grandfather. There is no RW3.

  6. jawpeace says:

Blackmon had a solid camp with Seattle. I thought for sure he would make it through the first round of cuts with his play. Maybe the Hawks are giving him a better chance for another team to pick him up, by releasing him on the first cut down.

  7. slicktoxic says:

I also feel like it’s a slight to Wilson to use basically the same nickname as another QB.

Give him his own nickname…..he deserves it!!

  8. jawpeace says:

DangaRuss is way better than RW3. I agree with so many others give him his own nickname.

  9. SandpointHawk says:

So how long can we fight over R-Dub’s nickname? Lord let the season begin…

  10. Really? Nothing about Kornheiser? You guys still have your knickers in a bunch over the term RW3?

  11. montanamike2 says:

They won’t show the game on TV until 10:00 pm Friday night, i guess i’ll be listening online some way or another on Thursday night.

  12. that Kornheiser bit is an old story from last year, right?

  13. The Blackmon and Kemp releases were also reported about 2.5 hrs ago on CBS’s PFT:

They also mentioned that the final 4 roster cutdowns to get to 75 could be made by simply carrying over 3 players on the preseason PUP list over to the regular season PUP, mentioning Harvin, Scruggs and Tharold Simon, and moving Toomer to the reg season reserve/non-football injury list…

  14. slicktoxic says:

No knickers in a knot here….Just think our QB has earned his own nickname.

The Kornheiser thing was from last season.

  15. Oops…that’s NBC’s PFT. Also, it’s interesting that NFL lists Blackmon but not Kemp as SEA cuts:

  16. Kornholer and Wilbon are okay, but the point of their program is to get people to watch and talk about it. Seems they did that.

There’s also WT3 with the Hawks. That’s Walter Thurmond III. It’s on his jersey.

  17. “Chuck, you took that sentence completely out of context. Here’s the quote, for your source mind you, in context.

“The source who was informed of Harvin’s surgery said the Seahawks’ doctors believed Harvin could play through the injury, though the source said Harvin was experiencing pain even while walking and not just while going through football activities.

The source said Kelly, who is known to only suggest surgery when necessary, laid out a few scenarios for Harvin. In one of those scenarios, he could return to action in the near future, but need surgery later in the year anyway. In that case, Harvin would have been out through the end of the regular season and perhaps the postseason.

In the end, a collective decision was made to have surgery now, rather than risk making the injury worse by trying to play through it.”

It’s just a source anyways and not a fact, but this completely validates what I’ve been saying. Why would you want to risk him being out later in the season and postseason if he could be back by having surgery? And you’re making a huge assumption that he could’ve even played effectively with the injury. You don’t know that. I don’t know that.

“The source said Harvin will rehab in New York for two weeks before returning to Seattle to continue his rehab.”

There’s confirmation that it was decided he would rehab in NY for awhile before he even had surgery. Again from your source. It was reported other places as well.

“The source informed of Harvin’s surgery and condition said he was complaining of hip pain to the Seahawks as early as this spring during organized team activities. Had Harvin undergone surgery at that point, he might have been ready for the start of the season.”

This is from your source as well. It suggests that the Hawks doctors played this badly. I think you’re letting your previous dislike of Harvin overwhelm your critical thinking skills in this case. Look for truth, not just to justify your preconceived notions. No offense meant. We certainly all are overwhelmed by our own biases at times.”

Thought I’d re-post this. This guy seems to really get it. ;-)

  18. Dukeshire says:

    Riveting nickname talk, fellas. lol

  19. jchawks08 says:

Just trying to nip this RW3 nonsense in the bud. Nothing to see here, move along.

  20. Look, you want a nickname for Wilson, don’t be a copycat and do something that fits…like GQB

  21. You can try & nip it in the bud all you want. I’m the only one using it and will continue using it.

If I post a story about his appearance on Dan Patrick & Keith Olbermann read the content and skip over the RW3.

  22. Hello? Gus Bradley? Here’s your third CB and starting KR. You’re welcome.
