5 keys for Hawks vs. Packers

Good Morning. I’m headed over to Lambeau Field in a few hours, and will post some video from the Packers Hall of Fame later today.

But for now, let’s take a look at five keys for the Seattle Seahawks, as they try to stretch that preseason winning streak to eight games.

Let the Beast loose: Marshawn Lynch has two carries for just one yard so far this preseason. It’s time for Pete Carroll to let his workhorse running back get into a rhythm in order to get ready for the regular season. I think 10 to 12 carries in the first half would do the trick.

Will Avril and Irvin play? You would think at some point the Seahawks need to see what they have in Cliff Avril, and how he will fit into the team’s scheme defensively. Avril’s been nursing a nagging hamstring injury, which has limited his reps in practice. But seeing him pass rush against old NFC North rival Aaron Rodgers would be a good evaluation tool for defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Also, Bruce Irvin is running out of time to get adjusted to his new position of SAM linebacker, with his four-game suspension looming. Both players are game-time decisions.

McDaniel’s time to shine: Defensive tackle Tony McDaniel was one of the more impressive players for Seattle during offseason work, showing an innate ability to knock down passes. But Quinn has been unable to get a good evaluation of McDaniel because a groin injury did not allow him to play in the first two games. With rookies Jordan Hill (strain bicep) and Jesse Williams (knee) nursing injures, McDaniel gets a chance to show that he can be the guy to replace Alan Branch at defensive tackle.

Play with poise: With “Fail Mary” one of the main storylines heading into this game, Seattle players no doubt will be taunted by Packers fans still upset with last year’s result at CenturyLink Field. So it will be important for Carroll to make sure his players react appropriately, and the game doesn’t turn into a personal foul flag fest. The nationally televised game should be good preparation for the type of environment the Seahawks will face on the road during the regular season.

Get out of there healthy: One of the things the Seahawks have been fortunate with is no serious injuries so far through two preseason games. And it’s one of the reasons Carroll decided not to play receiver Sidney Rice and tight end Zach Miller. He understands that those players need to be ready for the team’s Sept. 8 game at Carolina.

  1. Finally. Its Beast Mode Time.

I wonder who will get the start at FB? Ware? And how much will the rushing game miss MikeRob tonight?

I am hoping Christine Michael plays in this game. Would be awesome to see how he does as a follow up from his last game.

I’d also like to see less penalties from the offensive line and just penalties in general. We had way too many last week.

Russell Wilson to Tate for a touchdown. That needs to happen tonight.

  3. Im actually more interested in watching Coleman and Ware play than MIchaels and Lynch. Sit em both–no need to risk injuries. I will be watching Sweezy and whoever is at LG for sure, and esp McDaniel at DT. Im also curious to see who starts at LEO/SAM, Im hoping its Schofield, with Avril getting some time. Next week I want to see Mayowa get the starting nod.

Crapola, just realized Im travelling to WA today so I wont get to see the game, most likely. Durn!

The whole country wants to see this game just because of the Tate touchdown. Seattle vs San Fran is must see tv, just a few years ago nobody would have cared, at all.

    Here’s something that’s appropriate for today. Enjoy…

“Your one fantasy player everyone will hate: Jermichael Finley. Always. He treats every oncoming football like a naked leper.” Lol!

  6. Ha. Thanks Duke. Wonder why there is no ‘Why Your Team Sucks’ for the Seahawks yet. I feel left out.

  7. Dukeshire says:

There will be. They did one last year.

  8. I can’t wait! :-)

  9. bbnate420 says:

Rapping with the drunkard? That reminds me of Christmas with my uncle.

  10. bbnate420 says:

    That was a failed joke.

  11. raymaines says:

No Bruce Irvin, no Cliff Averl. No Rice, no Miller. What? Me worry?

  12. bbnate420 says:

STTBM, couldn’t someone DVR it for you and send you a DVD? I personally don’t have a DVR right now or I would record it for you.

  13. bbnate420 says:

Check YouTube. They have them sometimes, but they get removed quickly if someone reports copyright issues,

  14. raymaines says:

The radio guys said Irvin wouldn’t play. They were wrong. Good for Bruce.

  15. bbnate–I don’t know anyone with the capability to burn it to DVD, but my Mom in law recorded the second quarter on, so I got to see some of it. Plus I watched the Post Game show, so its cool.

I would love to find someone who can burn games to DVD–Ive got some pretty cool oldschool Hawk memorabilia I can offer in trade.
