Dave Boling of The News Tribune preview’s tonight’s exhibition opener between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Diego Chargers with a closer look at the battle for the No. 2 quarterback job between Brady Quinn and Tarvaris Jackson.

Jackson returns to the scene of his first career start with Seattle two years ago in a preseason game at San Diego.

“The competition is at hand now, there’s no doubt, and it’s a big deal to Brady and T-Jack,” coach Pete Carroll said. “They’ve performed well in practice, they’ve handled themselves and the team very well. We’re really fortunate to have their experience … they’ve got four games to prove it and they’ll get a lot of playing time and have a great chance.”

Clare Farnsworth of writes that Seattle’s young players fighting to earn a roster spot will get a good look tonight against the Chargers.

    Game day. Woot woot!!

“You’re going to see Christine Michael right off the bat,” Carroll said. “I don’t mind telling you that. I’m kind of anxious to see that myself.”

Can’t wait to see what Michael can do.

Well, now I have a problem. I don’t have an opinion one way or the other on who will be our backup QB. A lawyer without an opinion is like a bike without wheels.

I like both TJack and Brady. I think they would both be more than capable of handling the backup job and either could fill in if warranted.

Good thing is no drama. The guy that does the better job running the offense in pre-season will be with the team. No politics, no controversy, and no concerns about favoritism/mis-treatment or any other such.

If it’s Quinn GREAT. If it’s TJack, couldn’t be happier.

I guess I’m going to have to go home and pick a fight with the spouse and the kid. DARN.

  5. Would like to see the Chris Michael vs Turbin competition and TJax vs Quinn, but the dang thing is on NFL network, so guess not… Would like to hear from y’all if PC does his competitions for 2nd spots (QB, RB, TE) this preseason like he did between the QBs last preseason. This game one person plays against the ones and the next game he plays against the 2s and 3s, meanwhile the guy who plays vs the 2s & 3s this game plays the 1s the next game. I’d also love to hear if our interior DL gets more penetration and pressure, if the LBs play the run downhill or flow, if the LBs/DBs play man or zone vs the pass and how much Quinn blitzes on 3rd down.

  6. I doubt we will see very many blitzes

The 2 guys I want to see most tonight are Michael and WT3. I would also say Carp, but I doubt he’s playing tonight. Actually, I’ll be watching Willson closely as well.
