No news yet on Harvin’s hip injury; Rice travels to Switzerland for procedure on knee

The Seattle Seahawks’ projected starting receiving duo of Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice both were not in attendance at this mornings practice, the fifth day of training camp.

Harvin, of course, is in New York getting a second opinion on his injured hip today.

Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said the team has no news report on the status of Harvin’s injury.

“We don’t know any more information yet,” Carroll said. “But we continue to progress with this simple thought that we’re going to do whatever we need to do to help Percy be right, whatever that is. We’ll support the doctor’s findings and all that stuff. They’re working it out now, and we should here more in the next day. But at this point we’re just going to help him get right, and whatever time frame is, we’ll figure that out when we have all the information in.”

Carroll also provided some clarity on conflicting reports as to what the organization’s thought process on whether or not Harvin in fact needed surgery.

“We haven’t made a conclusive statement about it yet,” Carroll said. “We’re trying to wait it out, and make sure we take all the time that is available, and all of the information. So whatever those reports were, they weren’t correct.”

Ultimately, Carroll indicated that Harvin will make the final decision on whether or not he has surgery.

“Eventually, he has to say, ‘Yeah, I’m getting surgery or not,’” Carroll said. “He has to okay that. But that’s all going to be with the information of the doctors. They’re working it out now, trying to get all the information. There’s a lot of background work that we’re doing here, too. But it will be doctors’ recommendations, and of course the patient always gets the final shot.”

Rice, on the other hand, was a surprise absence from today’s practice. Carroll indicated that the South Carolina product is in Switzerland getting a preventative procedure for a nagging knee issue.

Carroll emphasized that Rice is not having surgery, and that he’s does not have a new injury. Carroll also said Rice should be back by the end of this week, and will not miss any preseason or regular season games because of the procedure.

“He was practicing fine when he was out here,” Carroll said. “But this is a procedure that they’ve been waiting to do, and so he’ll come back. And when he comes back, he’ll go right back on the field. He didn’t get hurt. We’re just trying to help him along.”

In terms of other player injuries, defensive end Cliff Avril missed his third practice with a hamstring issue. And offensive tackle Michael Bowie and cornerback Ron Parker also missed practice with strained hamstrings.

Defensive lineman Michael Bennett’s wife is having a baby, so he was not at practice today.

Defensive lineman Jesse Williams (knee) and linebacker Heath Farwell (back spasms) returned to practice today.

  1. Has anyone seen Tate’s or Baldwin’s passports?

  2. stem cells

  3. SandpointHawk says:

Let’s hope it’s just a chocolate infusion…For one of our deepest area’s in the off-season I’m suddenly grinding my teeth….

  4. Putting Swiss Watch gears in his knees…is that a Performance Enhancer?

  5. Any chance JS/PC are just f-ing with us? “Make them think you’re weak when really you’re strong.” I think that’s from some cheesy 80’s karate movie.

  6. doubledink says:

He’s checking on the balance in those special accounts.

  7. doubledink says:

    Vegas,
the team confiscated their passports when they applied a diversionary tactic of putting a tray of maple bars in the cafeteria.

  8. RDPoulsbo says:

The Konz is back! They dropped that TE that no one knows about to make room.

  9. MattandCindy says:

With I sign that says no trolls or people with multiple accounts next to the maple bars?

  10. His name is Marshall.

  11. hawkfaninoklahoma says:

lmao well matt what would you like to talk about then?

  12. RDPoulsbo says:

    Who? :P

I’m guessing they want Konz to play TE since DE and LB are already looking pretty good. Maybe the team will settle on just 1 position this time around.

  13. MattandCindy says:

    I think it’s funny, that’s all. You know it’s funny, too. C’mon…

  14. hawkfaninoklahoma says:

just giving you crap matt. seriously thou it’s still better than nothing to read

  15. Dukeshire says:

Good lord. Position of strength is rapidly becoming a real concern.

  16. MattandCindy says:

Roger that, hawkfan. Supposedly with Rice, it’s something minor…but I don’t have any inside info. Just pray.

  17. GeorgiaHawk says:

Konz is like a lingering cold you just can’t get rid of.

  18. The maple bars will at least keep Tate close by.

  19. MattandCindy says:
  20. Oh boy, the KONZ is in the house! I’m expecting daily updates on him, see how long he can make it before getting injured.

  21. MattandCindy says:

About as long as a newbie or someone who doesn’t post a lot lasts around here.

  22. seahawksteven777 says:

Remember this name, Seahawks fans. WR Stephen WIlliams. Beat Sherm over the top with a one-handed catch in red zone today. Camp standout.”

Stephen Williams continues to shine during training camp. It seems more and more likely he’ll make the roster, in my opinion. Especially if Harvin has surgery.

  23. MattandCindy says:

He was plagued my injuries in Arizona. It sucks that it happens, but so many great players get hurt once and are relegated to 3rd string duty. We’re going to love this kid if he stays good in the Achilles and Back department.

  24. SaigonSun says:

If not injured , Stephen Williams is in Harvin , or no Harvin. I remember reading JS was very happy when they got him. Now, we know why.

  25. freedom_X says:

Every team seems to have some physical marvel at WR that was unheralded or discarded by another team. What we’re saying about Williams, 49er fans are saying about Ricardo Lockette now. And Rams fans probably said the same things about Jordan Kent 3 years ago. I hope Schneider is right again here (since he was very excited to sign Williams.)

If Carroll is actually serious about the Swiss treatment – I wonder if it’s that blood platelet injection treatment. But that’s really, really weird to have that happen in the middle of training camp? It’s hard to take that seriously.

  26. USS Harvin tweeted he is having surgery

  27. bbnate420 says:

    freedom,

“Orthokine/Regenokine is similar to or even sometimes called a derivative of Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP).

As in PRP, blood is drawn from the patient and centifuged down. In PRP the process is performed to separate out blood platelets which enhance and accelerate soft tissue healing. In Orthokine/Regenokine, anti-inflammatory proteins called “Interleukin 1-Receptor Antagonist” or “IL1-RA” proteins are drawn and re-injected into the problem joint to block inflammation receptors. In simplest form, Orthokine/Regenokine is an anti-inflammatory treatment.”

  28. bbnate420 says:

Next man up. Gives Baldwin the opportunity to contribute a lot. Will be interesting to see what happens with Harvin and Rice this year and at the beginning of the off-season.

  29. Just heard it on the news; Harvin is getting surgery.

  30. Sorry xcman, just saw your post.

  31. Why do people have to go to Europe to try things like this – yes people need to be protected but at the same time I love ideas that just aren’t – let’s throw drugs at it approach!!

  32. edstang45 says:

Well Harvin will now have to prove to me that he is not a flake, He will have to earn respect and show he can even play up to Seahawks level!!! His is all talk and no Show…I think guys you want will play hurt and have to be restrained from playing because it is harmful to you. TJack play’d hurt all year Harvin seems like a candy ass I hope he proves me wrong someday……I doubt it

  33. HonHawksLSB says:

I will give him the benefit of the doubt if he can make back in time for the last part of the season and playoffs.

Can we designate him the IR Return player?
