A few minutes with Bryan Walters

Local product Bryan Walters, a 6-foot, 190-pound receiver out of Juanita High in Kirkland, has raised some eyebrows with his solid play so far during training camp.

Specifically, the 25-year-old Cornell grad has been very productive working as a slot receiver with the second unit, catching everything thrown his way.

Walters originally signed with San Diego as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2010, spending the final five weeks of the regular season on the Charger’s practice squad.

In 2011, he saw action in four games with San Diego, finishing with three receptions for 27 yards. Walters also had eight punt returns for 45 yards.

In 2012, Walters signed with Minnesota as a free agent, but was released at the end of training camp. Walters was added to Seattle’s practice squad on Dec. 20, 2012.

Here’s how Walters describes his skill set: “I like to see myself as a good route runner, making precise routes and just catching everything. I’ve got to work on everything. You’re never perfect – getting separations, releases – all of that.”

And check out some highlights from his days at Cornell below.

  2. Dukeshire says:

Seems like a good dude. That would be crazy to play for yoir boyhood team. Good luck.

  3. MattandCindy says:

xcman- He does seem to have some really good hands, especially with such a bad QB (Nathan Ford and Ben Ganter…yup). There was even 8 or so plays where the coverage was busted, or straight exploded I think would be more accurate, and the QB STILL threw way off target…but he brought them in. It’s hard with “highlights” because we don’t see the all the mistakes. Every player makes them, but it’s about who does it more.

It would be cool if someone actually watched this kid and had some first hand knowledge, but I’d have a hard time believing someone who says they watched this kid play in college. Cornell games aren’t exactly a ratings magnet.

  4. SandpointHawk says:

I have a neighbor who’s kid went to Cornell in beautiful Ithaca, New York. He actually played football for them (too small to get a full ride anywhere else but top of his class academically and first team All Idaho). Although he graduated about 10 years ago he might know about Walters. He’s a programer in Seattle now and has Seahawk season tickets. I can ask if he knows him or of him but it’s a long shot at best…Small world isn’t it…

  5. MattandCindy says:

S.H.- Nice. He’s the all-time leader in KR yds. in Ivy League history. Not too sure about anything else.

  6. GeorgiaHawk says:

I’m putting Bryan Walters on my favorite Seahawks list.

  7. bbnate420 says:

You better write him on that list in pencil, Georgia.

  8. trout_hound says:

He reminds me a bit of a certain Hawk that wore #80.
