T.J. Cotterill of The News Tribune provides details from Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s passing camp, held this weekend at the University of Washington.

A surprise starter for Seattle as a rookie, Wilson has risen to one of the most popular players on the team in a year, with camp goers hanging on his every word. Along with fundamental drill work, Wilson also focused on the mental side of the game on Saturday.

“That’s what we are trying to teach these kids with this camp … to be mentally tough,” Wilson said. “To limit the distractions and continue to play football the right way and be the best at what you do. No matter if it’s the quarterback position, the running back, defensive back, whatever it is, let’s make sure we fine-tune it and get better.”

Here’s my story from Marshawn Lynch’s youth football camp in Oakland.

The Tri-City Dust Devils recently gave away Russell Wilson Bobbleheads. Wilson played minor league ball there after the Colorodo Rockies selected him in the fourth round in the 2011 draft.

Jerry Brewer of The Seattle Times sounds a cautionary note on Seahawks fans assuming Seattle is Super Bowl bound in the upcoming season.

Jayson Jenks of The Seattle Times takes a look at Antoine Winfield’s possible role on the Seahawks’ defense for the upcoming season.

I can just hear RW at pre-dinner prayer….” Thank you for this food Lord, Amen…

    “GO HAWKS”

His camps that focus on the mental side of the game is fantastic. It’s so true, and all the greats have that focus. So good for the youngsters to that pointed out early in their lives…

  2. That’s funny, sluggo. I can just picture him saying “Amen” and then “Go Hawks.”

  3. At some point this season, Wilson will have the highest national profile of any Seahawk player since Bosworth.

  4. wabubba67 says:

Likely to be true, pabuwal. Thankfully, it’s for all of the right reasons this time.

Wilson (substance over style) is the antithesis of Bosworth (style over substance).

  5. princeaden says:

My Wife says RW looks like Carlton from Fresh Prince lol :)

  6. Carlsonkid says:

Antoine Winfield will change the way the Seahawks play D , at least to some extent . His addition is huge ; you can play way more nickel now & he’s solid against the run . Along with the change at defensive coordinator & a willingness to blitz more often while the corners play man , it should be interesting to see how different our defense looks this year . Maybe even the occasional corner blitz ?

A stellar secondary got even better with Winfield added to the mix – that was a great free agent signing ..

  7. If ET plays FS in center field, does AW play a second FS at shortstop?

  8. Dukeshire says:

klm – What are you asking? Winfield will be the nickel corner here as he was in Minn.

Has any bobblehead looked like the person it was intended to replicate, ever? lol

  9. princeaden – I’ve noticed those similarities for a while now, you can tell her she is right!

Man, Wilson is almost too good to be true, up until now at least, let’s hope it keeps going.

  10. GeorgiaHawk says:

I was just looking at some of Wilsons Twitter history, and it’s so refreshing and positive compared to some NFL players that prove by their Tweets that you don’t really have to be smart to play in the NFL.

Here is one of my favorite Wilson Tweets.-

“Really wishing the #Sonics were back… What do you think…?”

  11. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Lol JacDG,

I pray, (and I’m not a religious guy at all) that we never hear a report of Wilsons wife chasing him down the street with a golf club.

But then squeaky clean makes me worry for some reason too. Perhaps it would be good for him to have just a little image tarnishing, like hang out at the mall with Moffitt, down a few, and look for a tree. Or perhaps get in a fist fight with another player. I don’t know.

  12. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Okung, what were you thinking?

    http://www.komonews.com/news/national/3-gored-during-bull-runs-in-Spain-215236461.html

This is what happens when you try to text and run with the Bulls. Lol.
He just isn’t going to let go of that phone is he?

  13. Dukeshire says:

He did say in his Twitter post that folks were gored. And also, to reiterate what I had previously said: good for the bulls. I understand those gored have families and loved ones and all of that, but what they hell does one expect? (Thankfully, Okung came out unharmed.)

  14. Dukeshire says:

Those pictures are incredible. Check out #17. Yikes.

  15. GeorgiaHawk says:

Lol Duke, #17 is painful to see. Perhaps we can get a group together for next years event. Just kidding.

  16. sluggo42 says:

    26 looks fatal to me…

  17. I would be one of the guys “running” on the side of the street – behind a barrier of 100 other people – That way I could bail quickly, but you know – I ran with the bulls ;)

  18. bbnate420 says:

You ef with the bull, you get the horns. I have zero sympathy for these idiots. What do you expect when you incite and taunt bulls on the way to their torture?

BTW, supposedly only 15 people have died in Pamplona since 1910.

  19. raymaines says:

Boy are we lucky!! Eric and the TNT treats us well and the Seahawks are stacked.

I’ve been reading all the Carolina Panther blogs I could find trying to gauge what the feeling of the fanbase in Charlotte is like and things are grim down south. Not a very good or active blog, and an unhappy fanbase. Apparently the best parts of the team are a good front seven on a slightly above average defense, and Cam Newton.

  20. Wow, I just found out that the 12 Tour is coming here to Kennewick!

  21. Planning on going to 12 Tour in Kennewick Thursday

  22. SandpointHawk says:

You two get Brandon Browner & Richard Sherman at the Pub…Now that sounds like fun to me. Have a pint for me boys…

  23. Only one pint? Can’t do that.

  24. MauMau, I’ll see you at the Pub. I’ll be the guy with the long white beard.

  25. Sandpoint, ok I’ll have one for you, one for Richard, one for Brandon and the rest for me.

  26. SandpointHawk says:

    You’re a good man Blueshq…

  27. GeorgiaHawk says:

I’m pulling for Bates to make the team if they keep six WRs.

    http://www.omaha.com/article/20130714/SPORTS/707149858

  28. It’s a quiet morning but all that talk about beer brought Georgia out.

  29. Georgia, it will be interesting to see if Bates does make the team, especially since they drafted Chris Harper. First thing I thought when I learned about Harper is ‘this guy sounds like another Phil Bates’. 6’1″, 220-lbs, former quarterback, great runner in the open field. Come to think of it, when Pete Carroll first came to town, he gave Isaiah Stanback a tryout in training camp… same type of athlete. Carroll is still looking for his ‘big man’ WR.

I have to think they will give Harper every chance to stick as the 5th WR, meaning Bates is probably competing with Jermaine Kearse to be the 6th WR. And then there is Stephen Williams, who has the height and speed that all these other guys lack. Yet they might not keep six WRs unless somebody really blows the coaches away in the preseason. I don’t think Coach Carroll has kept 6 WRs on his roster yet since he’s been here…

which might mean that either Bates or Kearse or Williams needs to out-perform Harper to get that 5th WR spot. This will be one of the best battles in camp.

  30. GeorgiaHawk says:

Lol, Just after I opened one I scrolled down to see your comment blueshq.

I have a few angry thoughts directed at two NFL players tweets right now, but I will keep them to myself and just say this, I will be looking forward to the Seahawks playing their teams this year for not only a win but also that slight chance that Kam or someone else does a Vernon Davis on them.

  31. GeorgiaHawk says:

Agree Stevos, Good battles coming soon.

I’m going to keep an eye on the special teams play this pre-season. Good special teams performances will help win a job for a player in a close battle.

  32. The more wr’s and other young guys who have gone through camps with us the more guys out there on the street to sign to ps or 53 if injuries hit. Notice I didn’t say when.

  33. GeorgiaHawk says:

Speaking of injuries, With Harvins history of them I just wish they could have found a way to keep Washington.
I re watched the Seahawks/Viking game, (of last year) the other day and Harvin was just beat up! He took some big shots in that game too.
Perhaps doing return work is just to much of a work load for him.

    http://musketfire.com/2013/07/14/new-england-patriots-2013-profiles-leon-washington/

  34. Yeah, it’s a lot better to have a 3rd stringer at risk like Washington was. At least we still have Baldwin if Harvin is hurt.

  35. wabubba67 says:

Don’t sleep on Greg Hurd at WR, either. 6’2″, good size and speed, and he is a very mature and intelligent kid with a great work ethic. (I taught and coached him in the 8th grade.)

So glad that the Seahawks did not draft either of the Pouncey brothers…complete idiots that are not representing either of their NFL franchises or the University of Florida well.

  36. GeorgiaHawk says:

Yeah, I hope they don’t overuse Harvin. We need our best players healthy when the games matter most come playoff time.

  37. Thanks for the link. I graduated from EWU, it would be fun to him make the Seahawks!

  38. montanamike2 says:

Hi guys, i just got back from ordering my RW#3 in blue and traded my Sherman jersey for a Chancellor. I originally wanted #31 but it was only available in xxl and xxxl, i wear an xl. Not that i don’t love Sherman but Chancellor is among the most feared SS and he is my favorite hard hitter. Now i have a Wilson jersey too, my wife is a little PO’d but i don’t care. Offense and Defense!

  39. GeorgiaHawk says:

montanamike2- You’ve been in the hot springs all morning? Lucky guy.

  40. GeorgiaHawk says:

Since this is still,(technically) a Russell Wilson thread Let’s go back in time to this great article.-

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/page/hotread-russell-wilson/seattle-seahawks-qb-russell-wilson-measured-more-just-height

  41. MattandCindy says:

Is it me, or are the Forty Whiners snatching up every single player we drop? I believe it’s been mentioned before…but I think that they are truly scared. High expectations be damned…this is going to be so much fun.

  42. GeorgiaHawk says:

MattandCindy – They are scared imo.

  43. montanamike2 says:

I never go to the ‘springs in the summer because of the heat and all the tourists, on occasion i’ll take a guest there in the summer. Gonna wear my Wilson jersey throughout the playoffs this year (hopefully).

  44. MattandCindy says:

Yessir Georgia. With the talent, dedication, focus and that little bit of BOOM we have, any team in the league can prepare HOWEVER they want for us. We have way too many swords and shields.

I can picture Harblah meeting Charly Martin at the airport-

J.H.- “Hey bud. Good Flight? Write down everything you remember about the playbook. EVERYTHING.”
C.M.- “Isn’t stuff like that against the rules?
J.H.- “I’d feed my child to an alligator to win a ring. WRITE IT!!!

  45. GeorgiaHawk says:

Are the Flynn lovers still sucking sour grapes or what? Come out and enjoy our new franchise QB, the best we ever had! And will go down as one of the best in NFL history!

  46. GeorgiaHawk says:

    Lol MattandCindy.

  47. I dont really care which WR’s make the team (at least at the bottom of the roster). I hope Harper turns out well because we drafted him, but may the best player win. Bates has looked fast and has made some good catches in preseason, and Kearse seems like a prototypical FL. He’s fast enough, though not a burner, and strong and tough. He runs pretty good routes. Now, if only he can stop the drops. He’s done well in spot duty in regular season, and played well in preseason.

I am a fan of Kearse, so I hope he sticks. Williams and the other guys I havent really seen play, so Im not invested in them. Bates has another year of PS eligibility unless IM badly mistaken.

  48. Dukeshire says:

“Are the Flynn lovers still sucking sour grapes or what?”

Where on earth does that comment come from?

  49. SandpointHawk says:

Now I don’t link to Bleacher Report often because The Duke rips me when I do…so excuse me in advance but I’m too tired to source this to the original writer. Yes everything on Bleacher is plagiarized and rewritten I know. That said this one has a couple of interesting nuggets about “Running with the Bulls”….

    http://bleacherreport.com/tb/daPzc?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=seattle-seahawks

  50. wabubba67 says:

Georgia–I forgot that it spelled Herd, not Hurd. Thanks for the reminder.

It’s interesting that the Seahawks would cut a veteran WR that they kept last season…and instead choose to keep unproven players like Herd, Kearse, and Bates around. The latter three must have shown something.

  51. wabubba67 says:

    “it is”

  52. Dukeshire–In answer to your question, I posit: “beer”. You know, its not just for breakfast anymore, Georgia! lol!

Sandpoint–Bleacherreport is terrible. None of the guys there could pass for even semi-pro writers; hell, their grammar is worse than Freshman English for HS. But feel free to post whatever links. As long as you treat what these guys put out as semi-interesting fan posts, its fine.

  53. GeorgiaHawk says:

Dukeshire- How else to get you out of your man cave. Lol.

BTW- STTBM- Bleacher report is not overall terrible. Pick and choose as you please, however don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Lol.

  54. Dukeshire says:

Georgia – That’s weak. When there’s something of interest to discuss people are here. Re-hashed old links in mid-July aren’t generally going to get that done. I appreciate you trying (and giving) us things to watch and read, that’s cool. But intentionally calling people out long after nearly all of them admitted they were wrong is, as I said before, pretty weak, IMO.

STTBM – I do agree with you: Bleacher Report is awful.

Sand – Uh, sorry about that! lol

  55. Georgia–I have yet to read a single, professional–or even pre-professional–grade article on Bleacherreport. Heck, I havent found a single article there that bothered to use spell-check or had half-way decent grammar! Occasionally there is something worth reading, but as I said only if you take into account their stuff is written by guys like us. Who can neither write well, nor spell…

But to each his own. I still think folks should feel free to post links–I just skip almost every link to that site because I know it will just make me irate. lol!

  56. GeorgiaHawk says:

I’m going to take the high road on this one Duke & STTBM.

Choose what you want to read however I say to all others here that there have not only been complaints in the past from some bloggers about Bleacher Report, there have been complaints about Rant sports too, (So I guess we should no longer read BobbKys articles).

There have also been complaints about FieldGulls because some don’t like a particular writer.
That hasn’t stopped Eric or anyone else from posting FieldGulls links.
At least FieldGulls have people that can actually put schemes together to help explain plays.
I get it though, Some just want to most always look to criticize things instead of look at a positive. Sad.

Well, I guess I really didn’t take the high road. Lol.

  57. Dukeshire says:

Georgia – Re-read both our posts. STTBM said despite not caring for Bleacher Report, people ought to feel free to post whatever links, and I complimented you on your effort to provide content. What high road needs to be taken?

  58. GeorgiaHawk says:

BTW- It must be real difficult for some to see Wilson links that have been seen before, on a Wilson thread that has died long ago, however then why don’t those that don’t like to see past Wilson links just try to post something new?

Who would have thunk that could be an idea? Lol.

  59. Dukeshire says:

You must be too drunk to have read this part of what I said:

“I appreciate you trying (and giving) us things to watch and read, that’s cool.”

  60. GeorgiaHawk says:

Duke- I was joking with the Flynn post just to get folks back on here.

I know you don’t want to speak for STTBM do you? I’m sure he can speak for himself.
However I find it funny how someone like STTBM can strongly criticize something like Bleacher report and be wrong themselves many times. Bleacher report,(like so many web sites) are not written by just one writer, so it’s pick and choose.

Blame Eric for not starting a new thread, or post something else if you don’t like it.

And no I’m not drunk enough yet. Lol.

  61. GeorgiaHawk says:

BTW- It’s strange that almost every time we get a Wilson thread we are lucky to get more than 20 posts a day unless someone like myself pushes it forward.

Now on the other hand if we get a Jackson or Flynn thread we are likely to get more posts.

    Why is that?

  62. Dukeshire says:

I never said I didn’t like them. I said they won’t bring action to the conversation because it’s mid-July. It’s the quietest time of the year on this blog, every year.

Eric’s in Oakland, I’m sure he’ll put something up when he gets back.

Oh, and I posted stuff yesterday that no one responded to. I didn’t get all hot and bothered. People will be here when they get here.

BTW, there are 72 posts on this thread (more like 45 without all this nonsense), that’s pretty damn good for something posted on a Sunday during summer.

  63. GeorgiaHawk says:

Do the nonsense posts include yours?

  64. GeorgiaHawk says:

I’m going to leave you all with this-

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1704055-why-cant-free-agent-de-john-abraham-find-a-job

Poll- How many actually think STTBM and Dukeshire secretly reads this article?
    Lol, and cheers.

  65. Dukeshire says:

Even when I compliment you, you’re a total dick.

  66. Actually if you want to “get people here” first off remember that Weekends NEVER get a lot of posts and 2. post something like

“BTW Wilson Ranked #12 by Jaws is above where he should be ranked”

That’s how you will get people going

  67. sluggo42 says:

    Lol, how many more days?
I believe it’s ten… Oh please just hang in there everybody. This has been a reasonable off season in here with lots of food chatter. Keep up you other hobbies and before you know it, it will be back..

The thing I hate about the real season is that time seems to go by so fricking fast… It’s like yay it’s here, then I blink, and it’s week 14!
    What’s up with that?

  68. sluggo42 says:

    Good chatter, sorry

  69. edstang45 says:

I’m glad the first comment was so dang funny. Thanks Sluggo, I’m with ya and can’t wait for the real deal to start. ….Go Hawks……amen

  70. Georgia–why?!

My distaste of bleacher report is based on several years of reading. I have read more than 20 articles by many different writers, and only found one to be of a caliber high enough to recommend. My opinion was not formed by one article, nor one writer, nor even one season. And it’s only my opinion, though I will take issue if anyone claims it is ill-informed.

And yes, I loathed Field Gulls for years bra aisle their one professional writer was an egomaniac who cherry picked his facts to support his beliefs and they deleted any and all non-fanboy comments. They are much improved, but in my opinion (there’s that word again) they are not up to snuff still.

Seahawkaddicts still has at least one excellent writer, last I checked.

As I said, everyone should feel free to post links to articles. Many of them are fun to read. But what’s wrong with voicing a dissenting opinion?!

Thanks for the kind words Dukeshire.

And Georgia, chill! We’re on the same side dude!

  71. hawkfaninoklahoma says:

lol, we need training camp to start. you all are getting bitchy

  72. ^^^^^^ so funny

  73. STTBM wrote: “And yes, I loathed Field Gulls for years bra aisle their one professional writer”

Yes, I loathe the bra aisle too. Whenever my wife goes shopping, I try to wait in the car.

Just kidding, STTBM. Regarding Field Gulls, yes he was an egomaniac, but he put out lots of quality stuff, IMO. These days, Field Gulls does have some quality stuff, but also lots of mediocre stuff. They’re expected to have four new posts a day, which reduces the quality. I’d rather have one great post a day than four average ones.

  74. MattandCindy says:

    Wow. Talkin’ about Whiners…

  75. SandpointHawk says:

Well that was interesting to say the least. For those who don’t know I drop a lot of tongue and cheek comments in my posts. I will also state I read every word posted here (unless it’s on a three day old string).

We have been pretty lucky as regulars since Sando and E-Dub took over this blog and Dave B is an added bonus. I used to drop a lot of links here but someone else does that now and E-Dub has been so good I don’t want to step on his toes. I read everything I can find on our Seahawks, some of it just plain crap, but as I said I don’t pass along much anymore unless the article contains unique information and/or we are on a multi-day sting and the blog is dead.

Most blogs are regurgitated crap where the blogger has lifted quotes from legitimate news sources and dropped them in their article. I normally will search for the source on that crap and then link to the original writer. (As an aside I will give BobbyK kudos for getting actual interviews with actual players for his brief stint as a blogger).

Unlike some here I do not post to start wars so I can be entertained and I will call you out if you are acting like a dick.

That said the inside info we get here is the best I’ve found and I value that. The reports from the gym in Atlanta, the reports from fans at training camp, the info from the employee who is an old school chum and impressions from the game to name a few.

I value this venue and it’s contributors and I correspond with several of you outside of TNT. I will try harder to think before I type as we go through this terribly slow off season and I pledge to not post drunk (except on game days).

I hope we can keep it civil even when we get some real issues to debate.

Thanks for letting me random access my thoughts and Go Hawks…

  76. It MUST be ‘that’ time of the month…

    http://youtu.be/U2VhqjVkL-0

  77. Lets see about #’s

Post about Wilson – 88 comments
    Lynch – 22
    Okung -39
    Wilson -63
    Martin -40
    Overrated- underrated – 91
    Aviril-66
    ET- 76
    Sherman -104

On average Wilson post get more responses than any other SINGLE player post than any other player except Sheman. So just not sure where the complaint is coming from

  78. montanamike2 says:

I had a tough day of yardwork in the heat yesterday, sorry i didn’t get in on the bickering(not really). Yes we need training camp badly. We are all fans and even friends to some degree, at least we would be if i was buying. I used to read Field gulls too but quantity over quality softened that. Sandpoint i had your facebook page before my computer went down and i lost it. My very close cousin works for the Neutral Systems Analysis, and for years i haven’t used Facebook, (read between the lines).

  79. hawkfaninoklahoma says:

hey guys just remember after training camp starts you will all be kissing and making up. lot of expectations this year which is making the wait all the worse.

  80. montanamike2 says:

You got that right, i’m still jacked about my new jersey’s.

  81. GeorgiaHawk says:

I don’t play fantasy football but I would choose the Seahawks D if I did.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1704511-2013-updated-fantasy-football-team-defense-rankings

  82. blueshq..I’ll look for ya at the Pub Thursday at the 12 Tour.
me tall glasses walk with limp pretty noticeable

  83. Tall glasses?

  84. raymaines says:

    Tall glasses walk?

  85. SandpointHawk says:

He’s tall, wears glasses, and walks with a noticeable limp….

Now if someone can tell me how “because” became “bra aisle” in STTBM’s post…was it spell check or was it Freudian?

  86. Less than a month to go for the 1st preseason games. Hopefully the daily links will soon follow. I mean…there has to be enough out there to post, right? And if EW is too busy, doesn’t the TNT have anybody else that can help out?

I’m jonesing for some Hawk chatter!

    GO HAWKS!

  87. Sandpoint–I was posting from my ancient Iphone, and the autocorrect did its usual fine job. But yeah, I could probably use a trip down the bra aisle…pretty soon I will qualify as one of the man-boob club….

Im not sure about you, but I tend to hold articles written on blogs to a higher standard than comments posted on a blog by fans from phones.

  88. HeinieHunter says:

About a week away from training camp and everyone seems a little testy. I can’t help but think about how far the Hawks have come in twelve months! Chuck Knox used to always say “you have to play the cards you’re dealt”. Well, PC&JS must be dealing from the bottom of the deck because this team is just loaded. Seems like everyone on the team is an ace or a high face card. Start the freaking season already!!!

  89. Sorry, that last comment was a response to canfan, not sandpoint.

  90. I meant Canfan as well, not JUST Sandpoint…my mind is like a steel sieve…

  91. STTBM: Yeah, no one (not me, at least) expects comments to be perfect. I only commented on it because “bra aisle” was kind of funny. I knew it had something to do with autocorrect.
