ESPN analyst and former NFL head coach Herm Edwards joins 710 ESPN Seattle’s Bob Stelton and Dave Grosby in this audio link. Edwards believes that unless another team gives the Seattle a good offer, the Seahawks should keep reserve quarterback Matt Flynn.
“I don’t know if they even trade him,” Edwards said. “Keep the guy. I think his base (salary) is like $5 million, which is about what some of these quarterbacks make anymore when they’re the backups. That’s just mindboggling to me. But if I’m Pete Carroll, you know you’re always one injury away from losing your starting quarterback.
“And they went out and acquired Matt Flynn to compete to be the starting quarterback. I think they still feel pretty good about him. The problem is Russell Wilson has become a franchise guy for them. And that’s a good thing. You draft a guy in the third round, you can anticipate this guy to have a great future in Seattle. But unless you get something you really want, you keep the guy.”
