As always, Bucky Brooks of The NFL Network does a nice job using the All-22 film to break down the Seattle Seahawks for the team’s upcoming game against San Francisco.
Brooks takes a closer look at how Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch have been so effective running the zone read option, and also points to Seattle’s ability to create chunk plays in the passing game with Sidney Rice and Golden Tate.
Brooks: For all of the attention Wilson and others have received for sparking the Seahawks’ offense, Marshawn Lynch is the key to the unit’s success. The seventh-year pro sets the tone for the offense with his exceptional running skills between the tackles. Lynch is a hard-nosed, physical runner with outstanding vision, instincts and cutback skills. He excels at reading blockers at the point of attack and has a knack for finding creases in the middle of the defense. Most importantly, Lynch is a bruising finisher who blows through defenders at the end of runs.”
Matt Bowen of the National Football Post also has a nice breakdown using All-22 film of how Seattle’s uses the pick route to spring an explosive play, the rail route down the sideline that Robert Turbin dropped in the first game against San Francisco.
Here’s my story on Richard Sherman, who’s expected to play on Sunday.
Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com writes that Seattle has to do one thing to beat San Francisco according to fullback Michael Robinson – be consistent.
Greg Rosenthal of NFL.com writes that the Seahawks are mirror images of each other.
Bill Barnwell of Grantland selects Russell Okung, Max Unger, Chris Clemons, Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas to his Pro Bowl team.
Sterling Sharpe and Brian Baldinger take the 49ers, while Donovan McNabb picks the Seahawks on this week’s NFL playbook. Check out the video link.
Clark Judge of CBS Sports believes defense will decide the outcome between Seattle and San Francisco.
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayarea.com writes that one of the key matchups for the game is Michael Crabtree against Richard Sherman.
Pat Kirwan of CBS Sports also likes the Seahawks in the video below.
I’m dumber for having read some of the “national media” stuff with respect to the Hawks.
Some of you will be dumber for reading the following (don’t read it if you don’t want to be “dumber”)…
The sun comes up each morning. It sets each night.
Seahawk fans like the Seahawks.

I would love to send harbaugh home with a loss. Send him out of the building with a “merry Christmas A-hole!”

Lol Bobby, so true

Bobbyk,
I love any reference to Billy Madison. “May God have mercy on your soul”.

The video with Mcnabb is hilarious, and sadly typical. The guys before him show 9er clips and pick the 9ers to win. Then mcnabb gets up there and picks the hawks..he continues to talk about why, but only shows clips and talks about the 9ers. Haha, typical disregard for seahawks. Sure he picked the hawks to win, but why not even say why he thinks they will win? What a joke

The quiet before the BIG GAME… Maybe I’ll troll some 49er sites.

Seahawks22360 – It’s also Harbaugh’s birthday Sunday, so it would be awesome to ruin his day on that level as well.
Is it kickoff yet…?

Nice side story about Rachel Henley, Eric. Scruggs just went up several notches in my book.
I’m lovin the attention the Seahawks are getting with the play breakdowns. I’m learning a lot but so is the rest of the league…look out for our Seahawks.
Ok folks, in order to make this a bonafide rivalry for years to come, our Seahawks need to beat the 49ers and beat them soundly…they need to send them home with their tails between their legs and realize they just visited the toughest venue with the best fans in the world.
The NFC West is on its way from worst to first and domination for years to come. God it’s great to be a Seahawks fan right now…
GO SEAHAWKS!!!

Why are the chances that we host 49ers during the wildcard weekend…
I would love to lay some ass whoopin on the niners twice in 3 weeks…

Matt Ryan is good.

Durham is playing for the Lions

I know it won’t happen, but the best Xmas gift would be for the hawks to run that score up on the 9ers…another 50-17 would be pretty fine. Now I’m not an idiot, so I know how unrealistic it would be, but really, did anyone predict the last two weeks scores?

Bobby – Don’t you know he’s only a “game manager”, according to some here? That mean of course, Atl cannot win *because* of him. Lol.

T-Jack is 100 times better than M. Ryan (I’m sure at something… certainly NOT football).

Boy Calvin Johnson is something special. It’s amazing all the records that are on pace to be broken this season.#history
× Flag comment
It is truly amazing to me that the Lions can have a good QB (IMO) and one of the best offensive/defensive (Calvin/Suh) players and still suck.
× Flag comment
I might argue that Det has the league’s widest gulf between upper and lower-end talent. Even still, they have some crazy talent at key skill positions yet they still suck. This has me looking at Schwartz and his staff for reasons why.
× Flag comment
Yea Schwartz needs to be evaluated. For some strange reason I feel like Andy Reid or Norv Turner would make good fits there.
× Flag comment
Calvin Johnson was great tonight. I envy teams that have talented guys like him and Julio Jones/ Roddy White. Both of those teams have way more wide-out talent than we have or could possibly develop from our crop of players. I’m hoping we play lights out tomorrow.

Norv Turner? He needs to go back to being an OC. Reid, on the other hand, is a good coach and will get another HC job soon.

Game day! Lol.

There are also people that came into this year thinking Matt Flynn should be the starting QB and were upset that he was not.
I saw Matt Flynn play once and his name was Matt Cassel. I’ve had my fill of mediocre QBs playing for the Seahawks in the 30 years I have been a fan and I would hate to see 1 more. But some fans love to see mediocrity.
× Flag comment
You must be traveling back east Duke. I don’t remember you posting so early in the past.
× Flag comment
I am curious how you can rate Flynn as mediocre with such a small sample size of starting snaps Pabs. If I didn’t know better I would say you are trying to start something.
× Flag comment
The same way I can watch 5-6 games of Russell Wilson in College and know he was the real deal.
It would have been easy and lazy to make the Seneca Wallace comparison. We’ve never had a QB with Wilson’s level of intelligence, physical ability and demeanor.

Pabs, you must be trying to get some action going!
I was excited when we first brought him into the organization before the draft. He was a definite improvement over Bobby’s favorite player. Most of us never saw RW coming! I was a Matt fan then and still am but he is definitely not our franchise QB anymore. RW made sure of that!!!
Bottom line is Matt is still an unknown quantity to us. The times he has played this year was not a good sampling either. What will be interesting is what will happen to Matt in the off season. I’d bet there are some teams out there that would really like to have him starting for them next season and we may pick up a Kirk Cousins type if we’re lucky to back up our dynamo RW.

Let it be known that pabuwal has never been wrong about anything football related on this blog. Ever. Lol.
Confucious – Not back east. Just up early.

I believe this team is also at least 9-5 with Flynn. Basically, Mr. Happy had two choices for QB prior to the season and it’s a situation where he couldn’t go wrong. If he’d started Flynn and we had at least our current record, which we would, there’d be people on here saying how he made the right choice and that we can’t believe that some people here actually wanted to start a rookie. Instead of going with the guy who was more ready “now” he went with the guy who seems to have more long-term upside. For that, I respect him because even though I would have personally started Flynn to start the season, it now appears he made the right decision going with another player that I like in Wilson. This is obviously not a Joe Montana-Steve Young situation where Bill Walsh couldn’t go wrong, but it’s not like we’re like we’re Arizona either with the clowns they have been running out there the past month. We have two good QBs and for that I’m thankful.

Interesting that I never heard of RW on this blog before we drafted him. With your diligent research and RW’s obvious NFL caliber talent, it seems you would have mentioned him. Especially considering the huge hole at QB we had last year. If you don’t mind I will continue to give JS and PC the credit for the RW aquisition.

You even missed the blog entry where Eric made the case for the Seahawks drafting Russell Wilson?

An internet champion? Lol. What does that even mean? If it means never admitting when you’re wrong, you’re in a small group here.

There were definitely posts concerning Wilson on the blog prior to the draft.

I also remember that after 1 preseason game everyone was talking about how BOTH QB’s were better than TJack!!
So far the choices PC have made this year have been pretty decent – Lets hope they get even better from here on out and just keep playing for another week – if you know what I mean
