As our own John McGrath of The News Tribune notes in his column this morning, organizers of the Buffalo Bills annual trek north across the border to Toronto for a home game are playing up the fact that Korean rapper PSY will perform “Gangnam Style” during halftime of the Seahawks-Bills contest, with the hopes that it attracts people sitting on the fence to attend the game.

McGrath: In 2008, the average price of a Bills-Dolphins ticket in Toronto was $160. For the Korean rapper’s show sandwiched by two halves of NFL football on Sunday, the average ticket price is $99.

“I think just being topical and being fun – that’s what this whole thing is about,” Greg Albrecht, executive director of the Bills in Toronto series, recently told The Associated Press. “We’re opening it to not just the die-hard football fans, but opening it up to people who might be on the fence right now, or folks who want to spend an afternoon wanting to have a good time.”

People on the fence? Folks who want to have a good time? That’s not the kind of crowd capable of rattling a talented football team. Heck, that’s not even a football crowd. That’s an audience.”

Brock Huard of 710 ESPN Seattle breaks down Marshawn Lynch’s 22-yard touchdown against Arizona, the first of three scores for the Cal product.

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com writes that Seattle’s young corners Byron Maxwell and Jeremy Lane came up big when they needed them.

Danny O’Neil of The Seattle Times notes that Pete Carroll has had some success with two of his former players from USC grabbed in the late rounds in tight end Anthony McCoy and linebacker Malcolm Smith.

ESPN’s panel of NFL experts moves the Seahawks up to No. 10 in their NFL power poll.

Alex Ballingall of The Toronto Star writes that the Seahawks are challenging conventional wisdom with the success of Russell Wilson in his rookie season.

More Ballingall: He gets reaction from Bills fans on their team playing two hours away in Toronto.

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports ranks Seattle No. 10 in his NFL power rankings.

The Bears put kicker Robbie Gould on IR with a calf injury, and signed former Seahawk Olindo Mare.

I can see it now – Seattle is in a 3rd & short situation late in the game, in desperate need of a first down to keep a must drive alive. Both teams line up on the L.O.S. Seattle appears to be in a heavy run package, up the middle, I-formation. Then Russell Wilson see’s something in the Defense and changes the call to a hot route. As he’s giving the signal for the play change all of the sudden there is a deafening sound coming from the crowd but not the typical roar of an experienced NFL crowd desperate to see their team win. No this sound is more of an irritation, like a combination of nails on a chalkboard and a nat buzzing in your ear. Then as the confusion sets in so does the sound.
“Heeeeyyyyyy Sexy Laaadddyyyyyy, OMPA Condom Star!”

Both teams call a time out and let Psy perform an encore performance before Seattle converts the 3rd down in what becomes the game winning drive!

What is a PSY? Can the NFL penalize one?

  3. Dukeshire says:

It’s nice to see WIlliam Hung rebound after his American Idol attention wore off.

  4. bbnate420 says:

    Good one, Duke!

  5. burningup says:

The Toronto Star article stated Wilson went to North Carolina. I thought perhaps it was a typo the first time, but the writer kept referring to “UNC”. Canadians … pffft.

  6. bbnate420 says:

RW went to NCST for 3 years.

  7. Dukeshire, FTW.

  8. Wilson went to NC State before he transferred to Wisconsin. I saw him play for the Wolfpack twice, so I was rather excited when we drafted this amazing young man. He hasn’t disappointed.

  9. There is a lot of value here on this blog that Seahawks fans can’t get anywhere else. We have live chats with Eric/Dave, reporters with access to the team who answer our questions personally, insider access to the team (even if TNT is rarely the first to break news) and a great community.

That is worth something. But at an inflexible $10/month, TNT is pricing themselves towards the consumer who wants hardcore Tacoma news (that can’t be found in the Times) and doesn’t already subscribe to the print edition. I am going to guess there is only a tiny minority of people who fit in this category.

I think TNT should broaden their potential customer base with more inclusive pricing. A small one time payment where people can take the charge and forget about it would also increase reach. A recurring $9.99 a month payment eliminates a lot of people just on the psychological level.

Something like $4.99 a month OR $29.99 a year would make much more sense and attract many multiples of customers than their proposed pricing.

  10. bbnate420 says:

I totally agree, pabuwal. Unfortunately, I doubt it will matter. Everyone, stick around and see what happens. That;s what I will say.

  11. GeorgiaHawk says:

Good article by Alex Ballingall. He says-

“Former quarterback Chris Weinke told ESPN in February that “if he was six-five, he’d probably be the No. 1 pick.”

And that was in February when he said that.

  12. AKhawkFan says:

When is this changing to a charge site? I really enjoy the insight of many of you and would hate to lose the blog (I have diapers to buy). Will we all lose touch once it goes pay? Do we have a backup plan where we will all continue to talk hawks? This sucks.

  13. bbnate420 says:

AK, you can still stay for 15 posts/views a month, I’m not sure which exactly. Try erasing cookies and see if that keeps you here.

  14. AKhawkFan says:

    Bbnate,
Not having an issue now. Just suprised that people will have to pay. I hardly comment 15 times a month, but I view about 15 times a day. Anyone know when payment will take effect.

  15. bbnate420 says:

AK, I’m not sure exactly. They’re supposed to make a thread soon to inform us. I would guess that you could view/and comment on any thread 15 times a month without paying. I would bet you could stay here the same if you erase/disregard your cookies after you hit the 15. I was trying to be subtle, probably not well, but a few people have posted the same. Stick around and see what happens.

  16. bbnate420 says:

AK, it’s supposed to go into effect on the 17th.

  17. princeaden says:

A bit off topic. But, when I watch Russell Wilson, I always seem to see what I can only describe as a steelie-confident, motivated, determined young man that I see as Tigeresque. I would guess that it is somehow tied to being told he can’t play the position, especially at this level for more reason that one. I would also venture to say that his Father was in his ear growing up, training him for these pressure moments. Much like Earl Woods was jingling change in his pocket as Tiger was pulling back the putter on an important birdie putt. Whatever the case may be, this Kid is Special.

  18. bbnate420 says:

priceaden, how dare you talk about the Seahawks.

  19. chrisj122 says:

This is the only Blog I have ever religiously read and the only one I have ever really commented on.

I will miss this blog and everyone who contributes to it.
I have been reading this Blog for years now and I feel as if I have gotten to know some of you very well, when really I don’t personally know any of you but I know we all share a connection for our love of the Seahawks.

I enjoy coming here and reading everyone’s opinions and thoughts about the Seahawks and I even enjoy some of the disagreements we have had.

I can’t justify spending $10.00 a month on a blog, regardless of how much I enjoy it. Especially when most of the contributors will probably no longer be here.

People typically won’t pay very much for digital content, especially when the content can’t be download. I know A lot people pay monthly fee’s for access to play on-line games but to get access to local news and A blog is kind of ridiculous.

I will truly miss all of the opinions and discussions.

  20. chrisj122 says:

I say we claim to today, 12-12-12, 12TH MAN DAY!

  21. Completely agree w/all of Pabuwal’s post re the paywall. If there was a cheaper option for limited areas of the site, I would definitely consider it. I don’t live in Tacoma, and can get all of the other worldwide news for free at various places on the internet.

The access to the team, and the value of the writers and fellow commenters here is definitely worth something to me (as long as people stay), so maybe a lower-tier pricing could be made available?

  22. thursday says:

so the canada game is basically an exhibition, which really makes it a neutral site for the seahawks

  23. PugetHawk says:

I don’t even know what Gangnam Style is or who PSY is but it seems pretty stupid.

I Googled it and confirmed my first impression. Not sure that this person has much talent and seem to have fallen ass backwards into a catchy beat. Reminds of this guy from back in the day

    http://bit.ly/XTMOxn

I just hope that the Hawks are coming out to put a boot on the throats of the Bills and crush them. This is the time of year that the Hawks should be seeing red every week.

  24. Well, I’m going to go to fieldgulls for my content in the future. I will miss this blog’s special content. It’s always been top-notch since the Sando days. Some things change and people have to make their own calls. Thanks to all the contributors I’ve been reading through the years.

  25. ESPN radio syas the game is a sellout. They also say it is mostly because of the halftime show, and that probably half the crowd will leave after halftime.

  26. GeorgiaHawk says:

“One of the problems with this Bills in Toronto series, aside from all the other obvious problems, is that it features the Bills,” Toronto Sun columnist Steve Simmons once wrote. “The trouble is, we already have enough lousy teams in Toronto.”

    Lol.

  27. jchawks08 says:

1 Billion, yes Billion YouTube views can’t be wrong. Psy is cool as hell. What’s wrong with you guys? The beat is catchy, the lyrics are…who cares, the beat is friggin off the chain. It’s a fun song. Stop taking life so serious.
And yea, paying for this blog isn’t an option. I too use this as my only source of Hawks news and have come to appreciate the regular posters input and insight. Hopefully they figure out a couple of different plans for us.

  28. AKhawkFan says:

I looked up Gangnam Style lyrics in english once. It seemed to me the song was about respecting women and being a decent person. Weird. It is what it is. Anyway, 10 dollars a month, to me, almost seems worth it for the information and answered questions we receive here. However, I can’t justify paying it when so many regular contributors will be leaving. Found this blog when I was a sophomore in college and have been lurking every day since. Stopped posting for a while and have recently came back, and now we will all be leaving. I blame myself. Sorry guys:(

    My game prediction 27-17 Seahawks.
Wilson throws for 3 TDs and is that match closer to the rookie record. Marshawn gets another touchdown, and Sherman adds to his interception total. Cj Spiller has a decent game but he can’t win all alone.

  29. montanamike2 says:

Sorry to catch up with you later Georgiahawk, yeah i was there. It’s dumping snow right now so it’s real “wintery”. I just heard Rice is wearing a boot and will miss the game. Huge bummer, not the end of the world but still sucks.

  30. It’s not set that he will miss the game.

  31. montanamike2 says:

    I hope he plays.

  32. princeaden, I love the comparison of Wilson to Tiger. I do think he’s special and if the Seahawks keep building the pieces around him, we could have a great decade ahead of us. I just hope he stays healthy. Honestly some of the passes he’s completing are like passes that Krieg or Hass would complete in their prime — not in their rookie years. Dude is special. How special remains to be seen. Thank goodness Pete Carroll made the controversial decision to start him over Flynn.

  33. mojjonation says:

rodman…all those people showing up for the halftime show will walk up halway through the second quarter and will be gone before they kick off the second half. I think it will remind me of a sale Walmart would have on something hot then eveyone leaves when they realize that the stock has run out.
