The league announced that Seahawks cornerback Brandon Browner will be suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

Browner had been considered appealing the decision, but instead will begin serving the suspension immediately. Richard Sherman reportedly has an appeal date with the league set up for Dec. 14, so he will be eligible to play this Sunday against Arizona.

He will be eligible to return to the Seahawks’ active roster on Monday, December 31 following the team’s final regular season game on December 30 against the St. Louis Rams.

Browner is eligible to participate in all playoff games.

The Seahawks announced some roster moves in conjunction with the league’s decision.

The Seahawks signed cornerback Ron Parker from the Carolina Panthers practice squad to the active roster, signed cornerback DeShawn Shead from the practice squad to active roster and signed running back Derrick Coleman to the practice squad.

Parker was a final roster cut during training camp this season.

Carroll said that Walter Thurmond will start opposite Sherman, and rookie Jeremy Lane will serve as the team’s fifth defensive back in passing situations.

Looking forward to seeing Thurman play.

  2. Audible says:

I really hope there’s some merit to Sherman’s appeal.

  3. Audible says:

Any scouting reports on Ron Parker?

    Height: 6 ft 0 in (1.83 m) Weight: 210 lb (95 kg

  4. Audible says:

    Apparently, he’s struggled with injuries….the dude has elite 40 speed…4.28 – 4.35

  5. Sekolah says:

Parker is a player whom Carroll and Schneider originally signed as a UDFA back in 2010. He’s a solid acquisition at this point because he knows Pete’s system. I think I am more excited about seeing Shead get the call up, but getting Parker is a nice move given the situation the team is facing.

John Skelton will start this week against the Seahawks. He is 2-0 against the Seahawks as a starter but both those games were in Arizona and of course, both of those games had the Seahawks Defense allowing the Cardinals the game winning 4th quarter scoring Drive (one by Kolb).

  7. ryanryan says:

@audible – agreed, i’m hoping there is merit as well. i have a feeling they staggered the suspensions purposefully (as others have mentioned) to help the team adjust.

they can call up whomever they want, thurmond is going to have to stud up…how did he look Sunday? I didn’t get to watch the game. I caught the replay last night but only a portion of it. It was like a practice game for any corner not covering marshall – the ball rarely gets thrown anywhere else.

the cardinal defense is just as good as ours, everyone calling for the game to be ‘in the bag’ by halftime is going to be very upset.

  8. rramstad says:

Very interesting. Certainly this will push the other guys on the team to contribute.

I’m hopeful that Sherman has something interesting planned for his appeal. I wonder if he might be able to get it knocked down to one game, just the Bills game, somehow… I know, it’s wishful thinking, but what little information is out there in the public indicates that this is a first time offense and the one public story (which he refuted, sort of) is that he accidentally ingested the PED when hanging out with a teammate who has a prescription and clearance from the league to use it for ADHD.

  9. jawpeace says:

My guess is that with the win over the Bears our playoff chances dramatically increased and it is better for him to be out now than during the playoffs. With that fact and a low chance of winning the appeal, might as well just take your medicine now. But don’t forget to first make sure it is approved and prescribed by the NFL.

  10. RDPoulsbo says:

It’s not even that rramstad. Sherman has already cut down the rumor that he ingested it by drinking it from someone’s water bottle. So basically there’s nothing at all out there in the public.

I’m anxious to see Land and Thurmond. I imagine Arizona will match Fitz on Thurmond as much as possible.

  12. Audible says:

Can they practice with the time during the suspension? If not, they’re going to be rusty stepping in for the playoffs.

  13. bulldog80 says:

This smacks of good GM maneuvering in the background. They both file appeals so that they can put off the suspensions and both play in the bears game. Then, Browner takes his suspension while Sherman continues with his appeal to stagger the suspensions. I’m sure they would rather lose one at a time than both together.

  14. GeorgiaHawk says:

bulldog80- Agree, that is good maneuvering. Hopefully the defense will step it up a notch until we get them both back.

  15. LBCHawk says:

ryanryan– Their defense is better than ours. It’s okay to admit it at this point. I’m still hopeful we can get better over the final quarter of the season, but they have played lights out most of the season. If they had Russel at QB, they would easily be a playoff team.

  16. DanielleMND says:

I wish Sherman would just drop his appeal. If it isn’t successful, and we don’t make the playoffs this season or don’t get past the first round, then the suspension rolls over into next season.

  17. seaturkeys says:

It’s simple math! Two 4 game suspensions and 8 games before the Superbowl. As long as we manage to avoid the first round bye.

  18. edstang45 says:

It’s imperative now that the DE’s step up and get consistant pressure
Bruce and Clem have got to come to play and Jones also needs to bring his A+++ games the final 4 games

  19. GeorgiaHawk says:

edstang45 – With the help of the 12th man they may do it.

  20. bbnate420 says:

Anxious to see Thurmond and Lane play. I was wondering if it would be Lane or Maxwell in the slot. I think Thurmond at least does a pretty good job. I like what I’ve seen of Lane so far, but we haven’t seen him out there on defense in the reg season.
