Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters today after practice that outside linebacker K.J. Wright and offensive lineman James Carpenter will not play on Sunday against the New York Jets.
Wright suffered a concussion on the opening play of the game last week against Minnesota, and Carpenter did not play against the Vikings because of concussion-like symptoms he experienced leading up to the Minnesota game.
“Both of those guys need a little bit more time,” Carroll said. “So with the (bye) week coming up, we’ll take great care of them, and get them in after the bye, and we’ll be ready to go.”
With Wright out, Mike Morgan will get his first career start at outside linebacker. And John Moffitt will start for the second straight week at left guard.
“Mike is a core special teams guy, and he’s got a lot of special teams duties,” Carroll said. “So having the chance to focus not just on that, but playing down after down, is really important. He had a very good week. He knows our system really well, and he’ll be a good factor for us.”
Rookie defensive tackle Greg Scruggs also missed his second straight practice with an oblique injury, and will a game-time decision.
Several other players returned to practice on Friday, including running back Marshawn Lynch (wrist/back), cornerback Richard Sherman (illness), safety Kam Chancellor (quad) and defensive linemen Red Bryant (foot) and Clinton McDonald (groin).
Carroll indicated that those five players are on schedule to play on Sunday, along with defensive tackle Jason Jones (ankle) and receiver Braylon Edwards (knee), who both missed the past, two games with injuries.
Carroll said that although Walter Thurmond is now on the active roster, he will still be a game-time decision on whether or not he’s active for Sunday’s game.
“He’s practicing full-go,” Carroll said. “And he’s done a really good job to get there. He’s on the roster officially now. It’s a game-time decision on whether he’s up or not, but he is a ready. He can play now.”
Carroll also said that his defense is prepared for anything the Jets will throw at them offensively, including a heavy dose of quarterback Tim Tebow, even though he’s only played in 55 plays in eight games.
“We have to expect that they are going to do more, just so we’re prepared and ready,” Carroll said. “It doesn’t mean that they will. They have a commitment in the way they are doing things.
“They have a variety of things that they do, and so we’ve worked hard to be ready for all of that. And we don’t know, that’s why they call it defense. You’ve got to get out there and wait to see what they put at you. I wouldn’t be surprised if they used him more.”
I hope Mike Morgan does well – its great to get him some snaps.

I saw Morgan up next to Kam and he looked very slight.

Morgans needs to be just assignment correct, not spectacular. Unlike last week, when he played very scattered.
Jones playing is big. This d line is talent thin, to be honest, and need to rebound after last weeks poor showing, IMO.

Talent thin? Really?
Sure they’re very happy to get Jones back. But even without him they have Mebane, Clemons, Big Red Bryant, Bruce Irvin, Branch.
There are tons of NFL teams that would kill for Seattle’s D-line. What is this team, 3rd in sacks and 3rd in points allowed?
Last week’s poor showing was against first ballot hall of fame running back Adrian Peterson.

OK, as Sando points out this conversation was about the Jet’s, but is is so worth your time to watch this video to pick up what they say about the Seahawks between the lines if you will…

I totally agree with you Duke on Morgan needing to be assignment correct. He lost containment on several of AP’s cutback runs last week. At least three I saw, maybe more. For now I will chalk it up as a learning experience and hope he does better. But damn, the Jets scare the hell out of me. They can put points on the board at times.

This may be Mike Morgan’s only chance to show he can play full time.He showed some good in preseason and once he settled down Sunday, he wasn’t noticeable, which is a good thing.

Georgia, lmao….I was holding back so I wouldn’t start anything but he is on fieldgulls as his old name Nate Dogg lol

After thinking it over i don’t think the Jets will be pushovers but we’ll definitely be 1+ with the 12th man, but you guys are right, every time i think it will be a blow out in our favor we end up losing!
I don’t like all the talking heads choosing us to win.

Hey, do you think Mike Morgan and Leroy Hill Knows anything about this?

They seem so straight i’d never guess they were all ‘shroomers.
They don’t look at all like the hippies up in the Skeeny islands.

Eric,
So who played the part of Tebow in practice on the scout team? Flynn? LOL…
No, seriously…

Georgia, yea I’m in New Orleans but I’ve never been to that festival.

Portis played Tebow in practice.
They were teamates in college.

Being assignment correct applies to everybody. Leroy lost outside contain on a few of AP’s runs, notably on his huge run on the 2nd play of the game.

Keasley – Yes, the starters are fine. Beyond that, very little (at least proven). So when we talk about a unit being thin, we’re talking depth, and as down and distance specific as Seattle’s d linemen are used, they cannot afford injuries up front.

Ewalters7354- I could tell you some stories, lol. About every 4-5 years my birthday, (march-8) falls on fat tuesday. I don’t think I would be alive today if I lived down there.

Dukeshire- Our D-line unit is anything but thin. ( weight wise of course ).
BTW- What’s your happy hour Brew for tonight?

GeorgiaHawk – Funny you should ask. Rogue just released Wednesday my favorite seasonal ale: Santa’s Private Reserve, and I bought some for the office, today. So yummy…

Georgia, this one got me rolling! Good one!!
Let’s not underestimate these Jets. They are backed into a corner and could do anything at this point. Seattle needs to be sharp and on point for each and every down. If they are, we win BIG!
Go Seahawks!!!

Duke, I haven’t seen that one yet, I’ll need to head to the north pole and get some. Rogue makes some of the best specialty beers around and they are always good.

TomlPDX – Get right into it!

Morgan is going to be tested. I’m not so much worried about him against the running attack the Jets have, but he being matched up on Dustin Keller could be something for the Jets tag team of QB’s to exploit.

The Jets are so schizophrentic! They blow out the bills 48-28 at home, then get blown out 27-10 at Pittsburgh. Then win at Miami-23-20 in ot, only to lose at home in a blowout to the 49ers 34-0. Then they lose at home to Houston-23-17, only to win in a blowout at home to the Colts 35-9. Then they lose at New England 29-26 in ot. And follow that up with a blowout loss at home against Miami 30-9.
We better get on this team early our else we could be in trouble!

What the Jets think they will do to Russell Wilson –
“We’re going to get this guy rattled,” Wilkerson said on radio station WFAN. “We’re going to go in there and pretty much set the tone.”“We’re going to get this guy rattled,” Wilkerson said on radio station WFAN. “We’re going to go in there and pretty much set the tone.”
This is a Jets team the Seahawks should hold to 10 or fewer points and beat by 10 points. Anything less would be a major disappointment in terms of how the team has progressed.

I live here in NJ, and have been listening to the ESPN sports radio here this week, leading up to our murdering of the Jets. They interviewed Warren Moon, and he did a fantastic job handling the questions regarding the game. He’s a class act. I flew my Seahawks flag on my car today and, expectedly, got some looks. Screw ‘em. Their team goes down in flames on Sunday, and I couldn’t possibly be more excited to watch it from my couch. Since, ya know, we actually have the power back on now.

Sandpoint, that video was amazing! I can’t remember ever hearing the talking heads speak about the Seahawks that way.

Hi guys, i woke up at 3:45 because of nervousness, not about the game(yet) but because it’s frigging 10 degrees out and snowing and i’m leaving to go hunting with my friend. I hope today is a good elk day and i’ll probably get an antelope too. Bye the way antelope look like something from Africa, a weird goat-deer thing that tastes good, especially from the grain fields in Ennis. I think Sanchez has some anxiety about going to Seattle to face his old coach, you know the one that told him he needed another year to get ready for the pros. It’s more than obvious that their defense got him that big payday. All i can say is welcome to Seattle and the 12th man! I expect PC is waiting for a lot of gimmicks.

This game is gonna be all about what the hawks do either right or wrong that will decide the game. They have proven they can play with any team in the league, now they have to play with a sense of urgency on both sides of the ball.Maybe their lack of maturity causes them to not really focus on the simple things, which is why I think our run D has been wacky the past few games. If the hawks play focued, they win.

Yep, growing pains of a young team coming together. Hope so anyways.
