What is the best mis-match in favor of the Hawks in this game?
× Flag comment
Easily Hawks Rushing offense (7) vs Jets Rushing Def (29th)
× Flag comment
I had no clue the hawks had 25 sacks so far.33 all last season? Should blow past that in the final 7 games. At least 40 sacks.
× Flag comment
And some (one) are saying this defense isn’t much improved. They’re better in nearly every way and sacks are a nice example of that.
× Flag comment
Looks like Marshawn will hit his 1000 yd mark in this game. Impressive back in todays game with teams typically using multiple backs to care the load. Marshawn’s beast mode is sure to rule suprem in this game. Marshawn needs just 119 yds for a thousand yard season in game 10.
× Flag comment
This defense is very much improved, imo. Last year we lucked out with facing some backup qbs and still our D didn’t keep us in every game like they have this year.
I can’t wait until this D starts creating more turnovers.

Hey, remember the days when it was almost a given for a team to win if their rb ran for over 100 yards?
× Flag comment
@GeorgiaHawk…yeah now a rb can run for almost 200 yrds and still lose the game.

No surpise here!
What’s surprising though, is he hasn’t given the Seahawks any locker room bulliten board material yet.

“Surprise”

Am I the only one who noticed the field goal with 0 time on the play clock? That was from 55 yards. Would they have tried it again from 60 or punted? That kept them only 1 score behind for much longer. That’s too bad a call to let go just because we won.
× Flag comment
That was discussed in the live chat yesterday. One thing about that to keep in mind, is that the game clock isn’t official. The ref on the field keeps the official time, so it’s possible that the stadium clock was off just a bit.

Tied for #5, and moving up.
OK, so we only got two votes, lol.

Can some one comment on how best to judge the effectiveness of a CB based on stats? I’d like to know how to rank our CBs with those in the division and league. I suspect Browner is kicking butt in that ranking. How many PIs this year vs last..way improved. He is very effective in battling for interceptions. What other stats can be used? How can you get stats on number of throws defended? And there is no stat on how many times the QB wanted to throw it, but the CB had the receiver covered up. If that stat existed, I think Browner would rank in the top group. I’m a true Browner fan. That guy rocks you when you are tackled, and kicks your butt when he jams. His tackle at the end of the 70+ run by AP was very cool. His closing speed for that play was fantastic.
Ok..man crush over, but questions are still open..

This team is feast and famine on sacks. They will feast at home with a raucous crowd and go famine on the road. Ask the 2007 version of Patrick Kearny about this if you are unsure.
This defense looks low-end when they face a decent offense and looks “strong” when they face a low-end offense. This is EXACTLY like last year.
Don’t kid yourselves by looking at aggregate stats in football to determine quality of play. It’s like thinking Matt Flynn was better for the team than Russell Wilson based on 2 meaningless starts with Green Bay. Or that Christian Ponder was actually a good QB based on some fortuitous play earlier this year.
It’s more useful to look at preseason stats for a QB to determine QB quality than it is to look at aggregate stats to determine the quality of an offensive or defensive unit.

The Seahawks released WR Charley Martin today.

Thurmond signed?

No word on Thurmond, but they would wait until Friday or Saturday to do that.

I always wondered what the point of having Charly Martin on the team was.
× Flag comment
I know it’s premature but what positions do we need to target in the early rounds of next years draft?
× Flag comment
Martin was the back-up slot, so Doug Baldwins back-up.
× Flag comment
looking at the numbers hawks should score some points.
× Flag comment
Does that mean Kearse is his replacement?

I thought Martin had a lot of potential. I remember Tuinei catching a td from RW in the Senior Bowl.

Bird, those were excellent questions about cb rating. I too was amazed how Browner caught AP! And he didn’t even pull a hamstring. Maybe those skinny legs are worth something afterall. The penalty they called on him was BS and it came at a bad time. His lack of PI calls this year is impressive especially with his reputation working against him.
× Flag comment
blueshq- I sure hope that curse is not his replacement!
ACIB is right when he says curse set back Locker big time with his drops at UW.
Why do we want him to do the same with Wilson? Just look at the Vikings game for a preview of curse.
And who the hell said that Curse had the best hands on the team? Lol. If that’s the case then we are in big trouble moving forward with regards to our WRs.

Stop dropping balls Kearse! Dammit!!!?

OK, I know most of my fellow Seahawks Bloggers out there are distracted by some kind of election. However the big thing to me with all this is will Washington pass this legal happy smoke bill?
bbnate420- Your take?

I am unsure about this “feast or famine” sack issue. This defense has has at least on sack in every game this season. To me, that’s pretty steady, but I’m sure I don’t fully understand. Maybe Patrick Kerney, who has nothing to do with this current team, might explain it to me…

Dukeshire- ” I’d like to change the sack issues, but I don’t know what to do”. So I’ll leave it up to you”.
× Flag comment
The release of two WR seems a bit odd considering the lack of depth we had at this time last week. I presume this means Thurmond is going to be activated and maybe Charly signs to the PS?

Georgia,
I can’t believe you are quoting (para-quoting) Ten Years After. That’s my theme song, man: “STOP THE WAR!”

Hi guys i’ve been a little numb since that loss in Detroit, i take losses a bit too hard. I’m glad we won decidedly against Minny, i really needed that. I’m hunting most of the week so i’ll try to keep up in the mornings. I’m really glad the offense is starting to click and we don’t have our best o-line yet. Martin dropped one too many balls and isn’t reliable enough to play slot. I wish we kept Butler.
× Flag comment
Don’t worry, the wins will come in bunches this second half of the year. The tough part of the schedule is past.
× Flag comment
I think pabs means that there isn’t consistent pressure when there needs to be (like 3rd and long) and the sack numbers insinuate that we have good/consistent pressure, when we do not (in all our games, especially on the road). I don’t know. And, yes, Georgia, I’m mostly focusing on the election tonight (especially our local school board).
× Flag comment
Nevermind… pabs is in the house… back to the election… lol…

As far as the pass rush – we don’t get consistent push into the pocket (IMO) – that is my beef.
I don’t expect us to get sacks all the time but I do want ALL opposing QB’s to feel the pressure nearly every play – hopefully over the course of the game they make a few mistakes. (rushed/missed passes, INT, scramble etc)
I thought in Sundays games we did a good job of that – hope we see it over the next few games – INCLUDING those on the road

Kearse will be fine. Case of nerves and too little time to acclimate. He will be fine. Martin had more chances, and dropped passes when he was wide open. No one called for his head after his first, second, or even third dropped pass, yet Kearse drops one and he’s garbage?!
C’mon, man! I dont even really like the Huskies and I think the kids gonna be good! Give him a chance!
He’s got more upside than Martin, but I still feel bad for the guy and was rooting for him too. Hope he gets another chance, somewhere…

RW – 17 of 23 285 yds – 3 tds 0 int
