Seahawks C Unger ready to go; DE Clemons fined

After sitting out most of the week with a hip issue, Seattle Seahawks center Max Unger returned to practice on Friday.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Unger should be ready to play against New England on Sunday. Unger fully participated in practice, and is listed as probable on the team’s injury report.

“Max is ready to go,” Carroll said. “He’s fine. He’s got to get through tomorrow, but he should be in good shape.”

Unger confirmed to reporters after practice that he was ready to go.

“Yeah, I’m good,” Unger said.

However, defensive tackles Clinton McDonald (groin) and Jaye Howard (foot) likely will not play on Sunday. McDonald is listed as doubtful on the team’s injury report, and Howard is listed as out.

Carroll also clarified offensive lineman John Moffitt’s condition. The second-year pro aggravated a knee injury that cut short his rookie season last year, and will miss his third game this Sunday.

But Carroll said he expects Moffitt to be available in a few weeks, looking to the Detroit game on Oct 28 as a possible return for the University of Wisconsin product.

“It was a little more serious than we thought,” Carroll said. “So we’re just making sure we’re taking care of him. We’re okay on the depth chart right now, so it’s working out that we can buy the time and not force him back too soon.

“I think he’s got a couple weeks at the most before he’s coming back. Next week doesn’t help because we have a short week coming up, but after that we have a chance to get him.”

Running back Marshawn Lynch also fully participated in his second straight practice, and is listed as probable.

Chris Clemons was fined $15,750 for roughing the passer, unnecessarily driving Carolina quarterback Cam Newton to the ground after he threw the ball down the field, according to the league. Clemons drew a personal foul penalty on the play.

Former Seahawks safety Lawyer Milloy was in the locker room saying hello to some of his former teammates today. Milloy got his NFL start in New England, winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots. But he has more relationships with players in the Seattle locker room because this was his final stop before retiring in 2010 – so the Tacoma native’s rooting interest is torn.

“I think they always have a shot as long as Tom Brady has the ball,” Milloy said. “I have more relationships here in this locker room because I’m recently removed from a couple years ago.

“But this (Seattle) is the home team, so I always lean more toward the home team. That’s one thing about being retired, is that I’m non-denominational. I’m just an NFL fan. And I can’t get fined for the things I say, but also don’t want to lose relationship and friendships.”

Nudged a little, Milloy put his allegiance with the Seahawks.

“The reason why I’m swinging more toward the Seahawks is because at home, I put my money on them at all time,” said Milloy, smiling. “And I’m not going to say another deciding factor for me is I got the Seahawks defense on my fantasy football team.”

  1. We need Unger and I’m glad he’s going to be ready to rock. With that new contract, you can tell this organization views him as a key building block and am so glad the people who thought Chris Spencer was better didn’t get their way when they wanted him resigned and for Max to stay at guard, as he’s much better at C than G, IMO.

  2. I also have the Seahawks Defense on my Fantasy Team and I think I will be just fine this week.

I was one that wanted spencer at G..I still think the starting RG would be spencer if spencer could have followed the leadership of Unger.

  4. I’ll agree with all that, Bobby. Though often I wonder how much of the credit really should go to Tom Cable. He seems to make all his players better. I never was too impressed with Unger at G but he’s a good C. Meanwhile I can’t wait to get Moffitt back, I think we saw our best run game against Dallas when he was blocking for Marshawn. I’m still waiting to see Carpenter and Moffitt both in there and see the culmination of Tom Cables rebuilt O line.

  5. These fines r out of control! How about the hit steve put on Atwater on that interception return back in the day! I wonder how much that fine would be? Give me a break! Glad to here unheralded is ready to go

  35. jollygoodfellow55 says:

Sunday’s weather prediction plus the 12th man definitely favors the Seahawks against Brady and the Pats. Go Seahawks!

  36. Georgia – some of us, like you, view this blog as an extended family, to a certain degree, that’s probably why it hurts when there are excessive rants of personal attacks and things of that nature.

With that being said, I believe every person on this blog is good and we all have the same goal in mind (to win a Super Bowl) and you can tell they are “good” when something like this happens to “our own (you).”

Again, I’m sorry and best wishes in the near future…

  37. God bless Georgia. I lost my Mom 3 months ago and I still don’t know what to do. Take care Bro.

  38. I’m so sorry for your loss GHawk. Hang in there, brother.
My condolences to you and yours. God Bless.

  39. tazzmann says:

i agree these fines are out of control i’m all for the safty of the players but really this is football not ballet

  40. even though we get along about as well as Harbaugh and Carroll, I’m sorry to hear about your mom, my dude. That’s something most everyone has to go through, but it’d be impossible to get through it without support from friends and family, even if your friends and family are people on a seahawks fan site.
