Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Flynn talked to reporters about facing his former team, the Green Bay Packers, this afternoon.

And while this isn’t the circumstance he expected, coming to the game against his former team as Seattle’s backup quarterback, he’ll still do his best to help the Seahawks prepare for the Packers’ high-powered offense, impersonating Aaron Rodgers.

“I’ve been running that offense for four years,” Flynn joked. “So I guess if anybody can imitate him, I’m going to have a good chance of trying.”

Asked how he felt about finishing second in the quarterback competition and being relegated as the backup, Flynn said he’ll be ready if called upon.

“I’m ready to go whenever I need to go,” Flynn said. “That’s how I’m going to look at it. I still have confidence, and I think I can get the job done if I needed to.”

Flynn was asked if he felt his sore elbow during the last two weeks of preseason play affected his ability to earn the starting quarterback job during training camp.

“I don’t think so,” Flynn said. “It’s just been more annoying than anything. But I don’t think that played a part it in.”

Head coach Pete Carroll discussed the fine Golden Tate received for his massive hit on Dallas linebacker Sean Lee. Carroll said he did not necessarily agree with the fine, but he understands why the league continues to buckle down on collisions that involve the helmet, and he has to figure out how to coach his players to work within the rules.

“We worked behind the scenes in essence, talking to the league to make sure that we knew, because we need to teach our guys how to stay within the guidelines,” Carroll said. “And it was a great effort to by Golden to make the block he needs to make, but unfortunately they saw that there was a little contact to the bottom of his facemask and perhaps his chin, and that’s not okay.”

Tate said he plans on appealing the fine.

“I just have to deal with it, fix the problem and make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Tate said. “It’s unfortunate that I go fined, but rules are rules.”

Safety Earl Thomas said that new cornerback Danny Gorrer is a guy he looked up to playing football in East Texas, and remains a good friend.

Thomas grew up in Orange, Texas, about 15 minutes from Gorrer’s hometown of Port Arthur, Texas.

Thomas said that Gorrer ran a 4.38 40-yard time during his workout on Monday.

“He didn’t stretch that much or anything, and he still ran about a 4.37 or 4.38,” Thomas said. “So that’s one thing you can’t coach. And I feel like growing up where we come from, our mentality is different from a lot of people. So just adding that mentality to the team, he’s very aggressive and he’s always trying to get to the ball.”

He ran a 4.38! Welcome aboard. lol

  2. I am intrigued by this player. If what Earl is saying about the guy is genuine then I’m excited. Fast and aggressive I like, especially if he’s a good tackler in the open field. This secondary is going to just get better and better as we find key role players. I miss Roy Lewis.

How far at this point is Thurmond from even practicing?

  3. Is Flynn going to do that Discount Double Check move as well?

  4. This guy was signed due to the poor play (ie, slooowness) of Trufant, and the repeatedly injured Maxwell once again missing time. He can hopefully at least get some time on special teams even if it takes time to get him ready for a role as a nickel back.

Still, its hard to see him beating out Jeron Johnson or Winston Guy for playing time, having just arrived. Like I said, Special Teams will be his bread n butter for awhile.

Nothing wrong with taking a look at a guy who runs like that, for sure!

  5. good one JZ…

Sekolah, Thurmond won’t be eligible to practice until week 7 at the earliest. Not sure if he will be ready. They have until the end of week 9 to have him start practicing and 3 weeks from whenever he begins to practice to decide whether to add him to the 53 or put him on the IR.

  7. “This guy was signed due to the poor play (ie, slooowness) of Trufant”

Yeah, I noticed that too on Sunday.

  8. tchristensen says:

Gorrer also played with Red Bryant at Texas A&M

  9. SandpointHawk says:

Love Tru but what you say is true…

  10. JazBadAzz says:

Tru got burnt Sunday but this guy is just a st guy only! He will not get a defensive snap this week.

I read that greg Jennings had a set back in his return to practice this week…
I would also like to think that J.Finley agent calling A.Rodgers this week wont light a fire under any of them or the j.Jones little blow either!
With us coming off a big win(over confident youngin’s) and the packers locker room controversy (unifying their team), and Clay Matthews playing like and animal, I pray this doesn’t get us taken behind the woodshed!
They are going to blitz the hell out DangeRuss, stay strong Oline and release the BEAST and the HULK!

  11. sluggo42 says:

    release the kraaken!

I watched the game on a little tv, and didn’t notice Tru getting toasted, I’ll have to watch for that. Is it because he is playing the slot guy maybe? Areen’t they the quicker smaller dudes?

  12. @ sluggo42, there was one play in the second half (I think) where Tru was covering a guy running across the field. Tru couldn’t keep up and his receiver caught the ball. What started as them running side by side ended with the receiver being 5/6 yards ahead and pulling away. Had the play been going down field instead of across, he might still be running.

Other than that, I don’t think he’s been that bad. He just needs to not allow his guy to get off the ball/line cleanly.

  13. shorty10 says:

Flynn must be sick. He had this one circled on his calender long ago. This was supposed to be his coming-out party.
