Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson received some major exposure today, both in TV and in print.

You check out Levi’s television ad above, which shows Wilson walking around Seattle with wife Ashley and talking about the effect his father, Harrison Wilson III, had on his life

And I also highly recommend reading this well-written feature by ESPN’s Elizabeth Merrill, which does a nice job of capturing Wilson’s relentless drive to beat the odds and be a successful NFL quarterback at 5-11.

Merrill: It was clear, early on, that Harrison’s son was special. He had huge hands, a bigger heart and the focus of a med student the night before finals. Everywhere Russell Wilson went, he won people over. One night in a big game against Fork Union Military Academy, Wilson ran for a first down, headed out of bounds, and a linebacker called him a wuss. A couple of Fork Union fans repeated the word, which was actually a bit more inflammatory than wuss, and taunted Wilson.

Hank Carter, who worked the chain gang for the game, told the kids that isn’t who Wilson is. The next drive, Wilson knocked over the linebacker and ran for a first down.”

  1. How can you not love this guy? Maybe you aren’t convinced that he is a starting QB in the NFL, but as a person he appears to be as good, humble, hard working and genuine as they get, certainly the type of person that I’d want my kids to aspire to be.

Also heard he was on the cover of the latest issue of ESPN The Magazine. I can just picture his walking the streets of Seattle in his baller Levi’s gear. lmao

  3. Somewhat off topic… Looks like I may be spending a few weeks back on the east coast for work. Does anyone know if/where I can stream the Hawks games? It would really suck to miss several games! :)

Love the shot of his wife’s ass, walking away from the camera. lol.

The “man crush” becomes more intense.

looks like tate will be fined

Skavage, don’t use explorer as your browser.

I think them stream the games on the NFL’s website too if you want better quality and you don’t mind paying.

Is this guy for real? The more you know/hear/read/see the more you are impressed. Its really just a matter of time before he rescues someone from a car accident or catches a baby from the 5th floor of a burning building, or saves a whale by pulling a golf ball out of its blow hole. Only half kidding, but I have no doubt guys will be giving 110% for him, what a tremendous leader. Now to buy some Levi’s…

  9. WARNING: To any of you at work… DO NOT click on the link provided by bbnate420. It is definitely NSFW. Unfortunately I found out the hard way. Has pop-ups that could have easily got me in huge trouble. Thankfully I closed the windows before the “activity” was seen by others.

A co-worker told me it was a 25k fine for Tate. I totally expected that. I believe his teammates will be happy to take up a collection to help cover that fine as it was an amazing hit/block/illegal launching of the body/unnessary roughness/JACKED UP! That or Paul Allen will throw in a mystery 25k bonus to him.

  11. Meh, Tates hit shouldnt have cost him that much. If it had been Hines Ward giving the block, there woulndt have been much of a fine–certainly not 21k worth. Also, it looked to me like Tate at least attempted to turn and drive his shoulder into Lee; it didnt look to me like Tate attempted to spear him. Launching? IDK, seemed like he was just delivering a block on a guy who was closing fast.

All the time I see LB’s and D-lineman slam thier helmets into Lynch and other RB’s helmets, facemask and/or forehead first, and NEVER do I see that called. Why? Becuase unless you are spearing with the top of your helmet–and obviously spearing–the helmet/helmet contact isnt intended. Its just that your head sticks out so its the first thing that contacts a player coming at you head on, or nearly so. Its not always possible to turn and hit with your shoulder first.

Skavage–that site doesnt have anything but ads on it unless the game is actually on. And yeah, you’ll get a bunch of gnarly popups underneath the main page. Girlypics etc. Not very cool.

I really like Wilson, and while Im bummed for Flynn, he wasnt good enough to beat out Wilson and I think there’s no way we win either game with Flynn. Our line just isnt good enough at pass pro for a pocket passer with sloooow feet.

Perhaps Seattle will do Flynn a solid and trade him for whatever to an AFC team that needs him to start. That would be cool.

Glad to hear all the good things about Wilson. Nice to get some positive press from national media. And it makes me even more hopeful that Wilson is the real deal. Ive seen nothing to show he isnt, and lots to make me excited for his future in Seattle.

couldn’t agree more with your comment Duke….again though, when will we see the “correct” defensive adjustments in the first half? Love what they do in the second, but if down 14, typically too late….

The 3 P’s. Persevere, Perspective, and Purpose.

God gives you talent, but you perfect your skill.

A wise father. Hawks fans are lucky. Something special brewing here.

This would be a perfect week to open it up and seize the stage.

  14. $21K fine on Tate…can we take up a collection so that he gets paid $42K from the fans, or always double what the NFL fines? I don’t want him to become too timid to hit like it seemed happened to A.Curry.

  15. bbnate420 says:

Skavage, what is NSFW? Not safe for work? Anyways, I don’t get any inappropriate pop-ups when I go to the site. Maybe your work has a shite firewall? Anyways, I never told anyone to go to it at work. I guess I’ll stop listing it when people ask. I can watch it on TV anyways, so I don’t really give a spit. Just trying to help. I guess that’s what you get.

  16. shorty10 says:

His wife looks fantastic in Levis!

  17. gonefishin69690 says:

Both “Just sports” stores in Tacoma Mall are sold out of RW jerseys. They did have 1 left but it is a xxxl. You really gotta love this guy.

  18. gonefishin69690 says:

    And yes shorty, I agree.
