Although the team has not officially made an announcement because the players have not signed contracts, quarterback Josh Portis, receivers Ricardo Lockette, Lavasier Tuinei and Jermaine Kearse, tight end Sean McGrath, offensive lineman Rishaw Johnson and linebacker Korey Toomer reportedly all cleared waivers and will be added to the team’s practice squad.
Looks like Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin is working on a second career in media relations.

Fianlly some good news…I like all of these guys but where is Helfit?
× Flag comment
This is one good looking Practice Squad.
× Flag comment
Eric can you please clarify what kind of injury roster designation we have with Roy, Morrah, Helfet and Taua?
× Flag comment
Helfiet was waived injured. If he clears waivers and the team is still interested they can place him on IR. Since he has less than 3 years in the league he still has to clear waivers before he can be IRed.
× Flag comment
The Giants tried to do that with Jake Ballard and Bill Belichick made them pay for that.
× Flag comment
Same with taua
× Flag comment
Wow Winslow dropped
× Flag comment
The report said he would not take a pay cut
× Flag comment
Sorry late as usual
× Flag comment
I don’t know about keeping Portis, maybe I just haven’t seen enough of him. To me, he looked awful. As far as Winslow, this is just another example of the front office not bending on principles. The overriding rule being “Do it our way or we wont do it at all”.
× Flag comment
Thanks chuck. If we claim them to IR that means they are not available for activation throughout the whole season right?
That doesn’t really make sense for these injuries I they are not season ending. Can they be “PUPed”?
Apologies Im just trying to better grasp how this works….
× Flag comment
Eric, you’re a busy man today!
× Flag comment
HawksKD, a player can not be PUP’d if they have played or practiced.
× Flag comment
Thanks Griz…
Just tryin to figure out if any of our injury designations have a chance to play or practice this year. I hope they don’t have to be IRed
× Flag comment
They may want Helfelt to get healthy and then bring him to active roster – If Moore doesn’t work out – who knows for sure
× Flag comment
Surprised Corderro Law didn’t get signed to the practice squad. Did someone claim him off waivers?
× Flag comment
I thought Law would be there – was a little surprised to see 3 WR’s
× Flag comment
Have a feeling this practice squad will be poached…particularly Lockette, Johnson, and Toomer. Hope not!
× Flag comment
If people wanted them they probably would have grabbed them already.
As far as I am concerned they can have Lockette – he has had a chance to get better and hasn’t enough to make it onto our weakest spot on the team – if by this time next year he is not clearly on the team he should flat out be let go
× Flag comment
Toomer, and McGrath were surprising cuts for me, so glad to see them on the ps. Hawks finally have the depth and skill set on this team, where we are going to see some of our PS guys scalped.
If a team wants a PS guy, does the owning team get first right to sign them? Or are they just gone?
× Flag comment
bird_spit, you can cherry pick off anyone’s practice squad. The player must be added to the 53 player roster. It is up to the player as contracts for practice squad are week to week.
× Flag comment
bird–I believe that the Seahawks have no ability to protect their players on the practice squad if another team wants them (unlike the waiver system in baseball). This is how the Colts were able to grab Forsett from us a few years ago (we got him back when the Colts released him).
Still have hope for Lockette…don’t want to see all that speed wasted. Would be wearing silver and black by sunset today if Al Davis was still alive.
× Flag comment
You guys are exactly right. Any team can sign another teams’ PS player, sk long as they are added to the active roster.
× Flag comment
From the looks of it Dougie was wrong about the practice squad.
× Flag comment
PS is heavy on offense. But with our depth on defense, I like it.
× Flag comment
WTF!!! They released Winslow? Only 2 TEs on a team that wants to run a 2-TE offense. I hate this move.
Saving 3.3M is that important? Is there some deal in the works they want that money for? Or do they think they can sign Winslow for less after everyone else passes?? w.t.f. Its not like we have receivers to spare.
I also don’t get why they didn’t sign Law to the PS. I don’t see that he was signed by anyone yet.
× Flag comment
Okay, I’m obviously behind and missed the news. Evan Moore. Hmph.
This tastes like a crap sandwich.
× Flag comment
Yeah, Stevos, that sums it up nicely….
× Flag comment
Agreed Stevos.. So does anyone know what’s really up behind the Winslow release?
Bad attitude? Doesn’t fit the system? Injurie? Something else?
I just don’t know what he did wrong and would love to be informed.
× Flag comment
McCoy led the team in receiving yards in the pre-season. Maybe the team sees him as a better value than Winslow, considering how much Winslow was going to make. Honestly, Winslow didn’t set the world on fire during the pre-season.
× Flag comment
Winslow and Wilson had a nice look at the breakdown in coverage I throw it to you non verbal communication going on.
To me that is valuable. Moore replacing Winslow MEHH I don’t like it. Winslow was there all training camp getting the offense and working with the QB’s. Just a bad move as far as I am concerned. The Hawks did not need cap space this season. They just should have let it play out, then after seeing Winslow in the system for a year. Ask him to take a pay cut after the season or go hey he is worth it.
× Flag comment
Official practice squad
7 signed to practice squad: Josh Portis, Ricardo Lockette, Korey Toomer, Sean McGrath, Rishaw Johnson, Allen Bradford, DeShawn Shead — Seattle Seahawks (@Seahawks)
× Flag comment
Looks like Baldwin needs to confirm his sources first.
× Flag comment
Evan Moore played in around 30% of the browns snaps last year. He had 4 tds and has very good hands.
Winslow played in 80% of the Bucs snaps last year.
Winslow is no more of a sure thing than Moore at this stage of their careers, imo.
And I will take Moore in the red zone over Winslow.
Also, saving a 7th pick and having one less Diva to pamper is a good thing.
× Flag comment
I was looking forward to Winslow. I bet his health was more of a concern than they wanted to pay and then throw in the 7th rounder, he was expensive. Mccoy stepping up and a few other pickups like Mcgrath makes him somewhat expendable. I’m really surprised he wouldn’t take a pay cut.
× Flag comment
montanamike2- Divas don’t take pay cuts. Lol.
× Flag comment
I think the best news all day yesterday is that there was a Baldwin sighting. I doubt that we will all be as concerned about the WRs once he gets back to playing.
× Flag comment
The Biggest Diva in Camp is PC. I bleieve he thinks he’s Gandolf all dressed in white. I’m not a fan of the dude. If I were a player and he told me it was Sunday I’d have to look at the calender. He likes Wilson cuz of all the College junk and RAH RAH RAH BS… I can only hope that lasts till the Packers come to town. I suffered through the T Junk QB season. Show me a Caroll College QB that has done great things in the NFL…. Wilson is Not For Long I can only hope.
× Flag comment
BigBlew….are you a fan of the Seahawks? Because I can’t imagine a fan wishing his team’s QB to fail.
× Flag comment
It looks like Phillip Adams was claimed by the Oakland Raiders.
× Flag comment
The Winslow stuff is odd, I’ll admit that.
I was curious with the practice squad and no Law, he seemed like a lock to at least make the PS. And did Durham play too much to be eligible for the PS? I thought he only played a couple games before going on IR….
× Flag comment
“He likes Wilson cuz of all the College junk and RAH RAH RAH BS”
Lol.
BigBlew- You’re going to have a hard time watching Seahawk games this year if your looking for this team to lose alot.
May as well find another team like Miami.
Some fans are just so used to losing that they just don’t know what to do when their team becomes a winner.
× Flag comment
Is Kris Durham going to the Lions?
× Flag comment
I’m thinking 9-10 wins this season, and it would have been there if Flynn or Wilson played. I’m curious what BigBlew thinks this season will be like. Maybe he is really pissed Mora didn’t get his chance. With Mora, we would not have JS, but some other sure bet GM. The PC/JS brain can keep doing what theyre doing. So far it has been nothing but a methodical approach to building a winner. Four wins in preseason means nothing, but it certainly looks like our pass rush issues of 2011 are solved. It looks like the deepest bench possible non the OL. The QB issue solved. What mora do you wanta?
× Flag comment
Georgia, that is absolute blasphemy!Evan Moore is nothing more than a big target that struggles to get open.K2 has more receptions in a season than Moore has in his career.I know he plays for the hawks now and we are trying to find positives, but let’s just be real with ourselves. This dude is garbage until proven otherwise.
× Flag comment
Glad Winslow is gone. Still remember that T.B. game last year when Winslow was punking Josh Freeman during the game. Being a B@!#.
Can’t stand that crap. Still say that was the final straw for Winslow.
Tampa had seen enough.
× Flag comment
Im bummed Tuinei and especially Javon Kearse didnt land on the PS! I really, really liked what I saw from Kearse. Also curious that Law wasnt signed. Very very disappointing.
I really hate to see us lose Winslow over money. Its not like Allen cares what they spend, and they have cap room…why the hell not overpay the guy? He was pretty good, and added a dimension to our team we arent going to see with Evan Moore.
So we have ONE reciever/TE TOTAL on this team who can stretch defenses, and he’s made of crystal/china; Rice. Whats to stop teams from playing bump-n-run Cover-1 and loading the box against Lynch if they arent afraid of us going deep?!
This is a real head scratching end to the preseason. I just hope Tate is full go week one…He’s the only other guy with real speed on offense besides Rice, and he hasnt proven he can be counted on for anything except the occasional flash in the pan play and good blocking…
× Flag comment
Kris Durham sucked so bad and played so wimpy, they dont even want his ass on the PS.
× Flag comment
Just because Durham and Law weren’t immediately signed to the PS doesn’t mean it wasn’t offered. They are now both FAs and are free to sign with any team PS or active roster.
× Flag comment
Winslow….I am hoping that he will decide to sign a restructured deal and come back. I was really looking for big things from him.
Practice Squad …..so wrs Kearse & Tuinei are not on the ps? Who is DeShawn Shead?
× Flag comment
Troll…
Lockett is only here to see if he suddenly figures out how to catch a ball. Fantastic athlete – hands of stone.
Emo…?? no idea… Big target, soft hands ..feet of stone…plods his way to endzone, turns around and waits, Wilson scrambles all over buying time, causing LB’s and DB’s to scatter, finally sees tall tree emo and fires a rocket to him for the TD… easy enuf…
Maybe Emo can block a little?
× Flag comment
DeShawn Snead is a 6′ 1″ CB out of Portland State. He went undrafted but was signed by Seattle as a UDFA back in April.
They must have seen something in him to allow him to lay low and then bring him back to the PS.
× Flag comment
I don’t get the Winslow thing either. They knew what he was scheduled to make when they traded for him. Eric and the other beat writers talked about how athletic he was (with great hands) so it can’t be a situation where he wasn’t performing b/c, as stated, all of the beat writers were really impressed when he did practice. It can’t be b/c he wasn’t practicing b/c they knew of his knee situation and knew he could practice all the time. I don’t know if it was attitude or whatever?
Blew – I don’t think it’s fair to root against Wilson. I think he can be good/great. I may have sounded a little like that last year though but the only reason I did was because I knew T-Jack sucked. There was enough NFL evidence to suggest he was crap (although, to his credit he did improve, although still sucked). With Wilson, there is the unknown potential (that all of us have seen and are jacked about).
× Flag comment
It has to be the Diva issue. all over the VMAC there are signs saying “I’m in!” and KW was never one to want to get with the program so to speak.
That was the reason Tampa shipped him out for something as low as a 7th. the Hawk’s must have decided the headache was not even worth a 7th.
× Flag comment
i find it funny how some turn on the pc/js so quick. let’s remember where the team was a couple of years ago. face it winslow had a bum knee and an attitude. my guess is it was one or both that cost him his spot. for me a guy that can’t practice during the preseason to save his knee does’nt inspire much confidence for me. i find it hard to believe he would make it thru the season. my guess again is that moore is signed for a tryout would not suprise me a bit if they bring in a couple more TE. i personally thought mc coy looked good the last 2 games, not sure it will last but i am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
× Flag comment
hawkfaninoklahoma – Every year, isn’t it hilarious after a loss or win? If we lose, everyone is stupid and we suck. If we win, we’re going to run the table and win almost the rest of our games. lol
× Flag comment
The thing with Winslow is that they knew he has always been a diva and they knew what kind of money he’d make. They also knew he had a gimpy knee. These things shouldn’t have surprised them.
× Flag comment
Seems to be a trend with teams and Diva’s now, look at what has happened with both T.O. and Moss a couple years back.
in the old NFL guy’s like that were never tolerated. even Namath’s antic’s never extended to the playing field or the locker room. at some point not that long ago it became production > headache, it now looks like that has turned the other way and no one is going to tolerate the like’s of Ocho Cinco anymore. IMHO that’s a good thing.
× Flag comment
Teams patience with so-called divas, and off field issues is in direct relation to their talent and productivity on the field. It will always be that way.
× Flag comment
bobby, comes back to the Tjack thing i was one that got onto you for not giving him a chance. i was wrong he sucked and worse yet he sucked when it mattered the most at the end of games.
another example is BI the guy has’nt even played a regular season game and some already calling him a bust. winslow is almost done in this league just like lofa. loved lofa but he was done and the FO realized it.
i wish Tjack the best he was a tough guy played thru a lot. does not change the fact that he just did’nt have it in the clutch.
× Flag comment
Yeah. I couldn’t understand the people who were calling him a bust after a few PRE-SEASON games. lol
Duke has mentioned several times about him being a Pierre-Paul type of devolopmental guy with his skills and I agree with that. I think BI is going to be okay this year but then next year I think he’s going to be a terror (the exciting thing about that is we’ll see some of it here and there this year).
× Flag comment
For me it’s not a matter of turning on the FO.Just doesn’t make sense to trade for a player, knowing all the things you have to deal with(knee/contract) keep him on the team almost 5 months and the week before the regular season he gets cut. That just leaves me scratching my head. Then to make matters worse you go and sign a bum to fill his spot….I personally find it funny that once the hawks sign a player he all of a sudden becomes so great and the only reason his numbers were bad is because of being on a poor offense.Totally not buying it.K2 was also on a terrible offense and still produced. Those are the things that have me confused.
× Flag comment
Ewalt, think of it like this. there was this eatery that my friend’s raved about. it had great reviews was rated 4stars etc.
I was really excited to finally go there, honestly I thought it sucked. portions where minscule, way to much spice in combinations that made no sense, staff was rude and snotty and I left feeling ripped off.
In short that eatery was not my cup of tea despite all the hype. that’s what this KW thing looks like to me, sure you have numbers, but you dont sit well in the tummy for us.
× Flag comment
Big blew is a big blow troll. No true fan would root for the Hawks to fail. The only time I ever come close is when they are already eliminated from the playoffs and their are only a few games left and losing them would mean a better draft pick. Then I root for a competitive game that we just barely lose. If we do win I find myself still happy even though we just cost ourselves a few slots in the draft.
Bummer about Adams. I had a feeling he would be snagged up CB with potential don’t last long. And the fact that it might be the Raiders is not too surprising as they had a lot of film on him during the last game.
× Flag comment
I think that Lofa situation pretty much sums it up. We,d be on the hook for a 7th and his large salary, if his knee was almost done then they made a last minute call and the cap will roll over for next year.
He did posess catching skills galore but with a run first team how could he block? Get seperation?
× Flag comment
Most likely Winslow’s knees were way worse than he was letting on. If that is indeed the case then this was a good move by both the team and Winslow.
From the teams point of view you don’t want to give a guy 3.3 million guaranteed if your medical staff have concerns he won’t hold up the whole year.
From Winslow’s standpoint why take a payout if you are honest with yourself and know any Sunday may be your last. Get what you can in guaranteed money.
Now if Winslow doesn’t get any interest from another team Seattle can always bring him back after week one and now matter what the salary is( right up to the3.3million) it’s not fully guaranteed and is only week to week. It’s not about the money for Seattle. It’s getting production for the money.
