The Seattle Seahawks made a minor roster move today, releasing veteran receiver Antonio Bryant and replacing him on the 90-man roster by bringing back kicker Carson Wiggs.
Bryant had missed the last two practices with an unknown injury. The veteran receiver’s reps had been limited during the first week of training camp. One of Bryant’s few highlights was a nice reception on a deep ball from Matt Flynn while working with the second unit a few days ago during team drills. But Bryant was a long shot to make the roster with the youth he faced at the position.
Seattle now has 13 receivers on the roster.
Kicker Steven Hauschka did not kick during field goal period on Saturday, so it’s possible Seattle brought back Wiggs to help Hauschka rest his legs.
Not too surprising.
One thing I find funny is when we make a signing like this (Bryant) sometimes people get all paranoid about “why in the world did we do this… the world is gonna end” and it’s simply about a bunch of bodies needed and most will be cut anyway. But it’s nice to mine for gold, because sometimes it does happen. Low risk, high reward.

The Antonio Bryant era didn’t last too long in Seattle did it? I wonder what Marshawn Lynch called him?

“Matt”

I thought he’d at least make it to the first preseason game.

What the hell is going on with Jason Jones? He is supposed to be a big part of what is going on this year. Especially since he is on a one year contract. I saw on the video that it appears as if he isn’t practicing again.

Good question. If his knee issue was known, that may be why he was given only a 1 year deal.

Seems to me that Camp Carroll was a bit more than Antonio Bryant could endure. That hit on him by K.J. during live scrimmage a few days ago probably has him contemplating permanent retirement.

BI can RUN!!!!! Just tracked Lynch and forced him out at the 10 after a 55 yard run. That’s effort.

Bryant looked good to me catching passes in camp when he was healthy, but since they had him at flanker behind Rice, Obomanu, and potentially Tate, it was hard to see where Bryant would fit in. So, no great loss. In any case, I think its smart to invite veteran WRs to practice and compete with our young WRs, but I think its best for the team if the younger players improve and win the roster spots.

the best part of this deal is bringing back Kristen Wiig as our new kicker. she’s hilarious.

That would make sense, but it sure would suck if he was sitting out a lot through out the season due to a bum knee. I hope it is just one of those things, where they know what he can do on the field, and just want ensure that he stays healthy.

Thus far, from what I have gathered, I am becoming increasingly frustrated for Flynn. How is the man supposed to prove that he is worthy of starting for this Seahawks football team, when he is forced to work with the second and third stringers more often than not. Flynn was not given amPle time in the pocket, and the receivers were rarely creating space. This 3 man race is really growing old. Pete has some trust from me (not that it matters haha), due to his building of this defense. His comments, when he spoke on behalf of the competition the other day, were rather alarming. He needs to choose sooner rather than later.

I have a feeling that they want to see them (Flynn/Wilson) in a real (pre)season game (especially Wilson) before they potentially start giving more reps to one or two of them in preparation for their second “meaningless” (not for the QBs) game.

Did anyone at the practice notice if Durham was injured? He had a good catch from Flynn but was shaken on the play.

@Seahawk2620,There was an article on Fieldgulls I think that had a stellar report about him. Made no mention of injury but did say he was getting tons of reps at every postion on the D-line. Carrol has a crush on this guy. I suspect he is getting rest. Just my guess tho

Whew! I’m glad I didn’t put my Wiggs jersey up for bid on E-bay!

Jones was heavily taped Saturday, single black wrap covering everything from the entire shoe up to, but not including the knee.
On both legs.
He ran through all the agility drills and moved pretty well, but didn’t have quite the explosion of the rest of the DLine on the dummies or sled.

I here ya powerboy.
I already sent out my “miss” on Wiggs when he was dropped…he was one of my undrafteds to stick.
But I’ll leave that alone for a week til we get a full report on Hauschka.
