  1. Wish I could make it, but I have a meeting in 15 minutes! Doh!

  2. Palerydr says:

Is it just me or does anybody else have long wait times(15 mn) before your post shows up?

  3. bbnate420 says:

    Just you.

  4. RhewChuryll says:

Eric I love the chats and any question I want to ask is always answered by the time I browse through the chat. But the one annoying thing i see and its getting way overused is people pretending to be a player or another famous celeb. It was pretty neat use of the chat function but now its just plain annoying.

  5. IBGoofy says:

Thx Eric for the chat…. Also, you answered my question on what you thought the Hawks would end up (9-7)…. expanding on that expectation, you’re apparently looking at the hawks as an improved team from last year. Based on your insight & ‘inside’ experience, do you feel that is a conservative estimate or optomistic estimate?

  6. IBGoofy: I think 9-7 is a bit optimistic. I think conservatively they will win seven games. But I think 9-7 is enough to get them into the playoffs, either as an NFC Wildcard or NFC West champions.

  7. raymaines says:

Eric: Sando used to just drive me crazy because he was a reporter first and never was really a “fan”, and now you’re falling into that same stupid trap. Come on man, 12-4 minimum.

  8. bbnate420 says:

Not sure you’d want to hear EW’s views as a fan seeing how he’s a Raiders fan! ;-)

  9. I think they will be much better this year, but I don’t know if their record will be much better?

I think their defense will be better, but I don’t know if it will finish 9th in the league again.

I can’t remember too many years where the schedule was as bad as it was last year, which was a combination of playing some teams at the “right” time with respect to playing with their top players hurt. Don’t get me wrong, we had our share too, but with the schedule, for the most part, really seemed to favor us more than usual I can remember. It was kind of like, I think, ’07, when we played a bunch of bad offenses.

  10. bbnate420 says:

We did play a few good teams, and we even beat a couple. NYG, Pitt, Bal, SF twice, Cin.

  11. bbnate420 says:

    Forgot the Falcons as well.

  12. More consistently above-average QB play, and and a little more pass rush – added to what we had last year, and should have again this year, we’re a tough team.

I think back to the end of the year Niners game – that was as physical of a game as I saw in the league last year, and we went toe to toe on both sides of the ball.

Adding Jones, Winslow, Rice, Irvin, to that team, even if it ended up being TJ starting at QB again, we’d still look to be better.

  13. montanamike2 says:

I’m really looking for a breakout year from Lockette.

  14. A few reasons (no particular order) why the Hawks will at least be 10-6 in my opinion.

    1) Lynch – finished the year getting 100 yrds and at least one touchdown a game, trend will continue, especially with an improved OL, will be one of the top rushers this year.
    2) Washington – didn’t really do anything on returns, will make up for it this year with improved special teams play, also, I think since Forsett is gone will be more of a factor and better chance of the homerun.
    3) Flynn vs. T-Jack – pretty obvious
    4) OL – shouldn’t start out so poorly
    5) Added a pass rusher
    6) If Rice stays healthy and some of his attitude and skill rub off on Edwards and Tate lives up to his potential, Rice, Edwards, Winslow, Baldwin, Tate, and Miller could create some headaches.
    7) Secondary is awesome

  15. I know we played a few good teams. I meant the schedule overall. That’s why I said “on average.” Even when we played the Giants, everyone knows they weren’t on top of their game at that point in the season with the injuries they had.

  16. I get the feeling that the Jon Ryan post actually was Jon Ryan.

  17. bbnate420 says:

I understand that we didn’t have a killer schedule, but I would argue that it wasn’t super easy either. Injuries are no excuse when it comes down to it. We had Lynch and TJack out for Cleveland, but we still get a L in the column. Still would’ve won the game if not for a horrible call on the Washington punt return. The Giants offense wasn’t decimated by injuries. You always argue that we played a bunch of weak QBs, but Manning wasn’t one of them. If it wasn’t for a couple of fumbles in the red zone, there is a good chance we would’ve blown them out.

  18. bbnate420 says:

There’s no guarantee that our schedule will be tougher this year. One thing that is almost certain is that some teams on the schedule will be worse and others better than expected. We don’t know if it will even out. I don’t think SF will be as good for sure. Also, we will be much better prepared to play them than we were for the 2011 opener.
