Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe catches up with former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu, who signed a two-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons after sitting out in 2011.
Tatupu will be playing in a new defense for a familiar face, with Mike Nolan signing on as Atlanta’s defensive coordinator. Nolan, known as a 3-4 guy, will employ both 4-3 and 3-4 looks because the Falcons’ personnel still fits a 4-3 scheme. Tatupu is competing with 2011 third-round pick Akeem Dent for the starting spot opened up by the departure of free agent Curtis Lofton.
Tatupu said lingering injuries were not the reason he sat out last season.
“It wasn’t my choice,” Tatupu said. “It wasn’t anything to do with concussions or lingering injuries. I was ready to play last season. I got released, like a lot of people did, and I just didn’t catch on with anybody.”
