According to a statement released by the NFL Players Association, the NFL Management Council and the NFL Players Association determined that the Seattle Seahawks violated the Collective Bargaining Agreement’s offseason workout rules on the prohibition of live contact during one of the team’s organized team activities (OTA days).

As punishment for the violation, the Seahawks have to forfeit two of the team’s schedule OTA practices on Wednesday and Thursday, as well as an additional offseason workout day on Friday.

Seattle players are not permitted to be at the facility on those days, but will be paid for the sessions. The club cannot reschedule the cancelled days.

Eric, I posted these questions in the previous thread, so in case you didn’t see it:

Eric or Dave, Contact? They were obviously in shirts and shells during all the workouts so, is this a type of arbitrary “contact”? Essentially just an OTA that got a bit aggressive or something more? And who complained to the union? A player? Are union representatives present during OTAs?

  2. yeah, i wonder who reported it as well. too bad.

The whole thing is being blown way out of porportion IMO. The sad part about it is the players it hurts worse are the players that need the most practice…the rookies.

    It’s a couple of days, we’ll live.

  6. Dukeshire: I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary during the OTA practices I watched, other than the shoving match between Ben Obomanu and Jeremy Lane. Generally these violations are complaint driven, so it’s possible one of the veterans complained about the roughness of practice. I believe Zach Miller is the team’s player rep. Practices are also videotaped, so it’s possible the league and the NFLPA could have reviewed videotape from practice to confirm a complaint filed by a player.

@Seahawks: VIDEO @PeteCarroll statement on cancelled OTAs

  8. You can see linemen getting knocked off their feet in the OTA videos on Is that the “live contact” they’re talking about?

More passes for Winslow v. Miller, I guess!

Thanks E. I would hate to learn that this complaint really did stem from a player, but it makes sense that it would be from a vet.
