First reported by Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange, the Seattle Seahawks confirmed that offensive lineman Allen Barbre has been suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances.

Barbre is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games. He’s under contract through the 2012 season and is scheduled to make $700,000 in base salary.

Barbre was brought back to Seattle’s active roster midway through last season. The team likes his versatility, and Barbre was expected to compete for a roster spot as a depth guy at both offensive guard and tackle.

Michael David Smith of writes that Kellen Winslow says Seattle is a perfect fit while being interviewed on ESPN’s NFL 32. We’ll get a chance to talk with Winslow after Seattle’s OTA practice this afternoon.

Clare Farnsworth of offers his first impressions of Winslow on his Seattle debut at OTAs.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider tells Mike Florio of that Seattle was contacted about the team’s interest in doing HBO’s Hard Knocks but declined in this audio link.

Mike Gastineau and Elise Woodward of KJR AM talk with Seattle head coach Pete Carroll in this audio link.

Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc believes Matt Flynn is a good enough upgrade at the quarterback position to make the Seahawks a playoff contender. You must be an ESPN Insider to view this.

The Seahawks rank No. 21 in this ESPN Insider piece ranking each franchise as it projects toward the 2015 season.

Brent Schrotenboer of the San Diego Union Tribune reports that Kellen Winslow Jr. is being sued for $133,00 for allegedly trashing a home he and his pregnant wife were renting for $9,000 a month in the San Diego area.

  1. Eric has access to the ‘Hawks today! Yes!

    Looking forward to the reports!

  2. bbnate420 says:

  3. I think Duke mentioned the optimism of spring in the previous thread. Well, in my dream scenario for 2012, the Seahawks get home field advantage in the playoffs, whack the Niners in the divisional round, hammer the Giants in the NFC Championship Game and trounce the Broncos in the Super Bowl. Yes, I want them to beat all three Mannings! (Okay, one of them is a Manning-ham, but he counts too.) I’d love to see Pete Carroll shaking hands with Peyton Manning after the game and saying, “It was nice of you to meet us.”

Someone wake me up when Eric posts his first OTA report …

  4. Dukeshire says:

Me too, Bobby! In the mean time, here is a fun article on Lisowski. (There’s also so tid-bits from yesterday’s OTA.)

  5. RDPoulsbo says:

Brock’s take on the QB competition. Wilson is getting all the attention so far because he’s been primarily the only QB available to the press up until today. In the end, it’s Flynn is still the easy favorite as the starter.

  6. Soggybuc says:

I’m a sucker but every year I can not help but root like hell for a kid like Likowski. sounds as if has a decent chance of sticking as a special teams stand out. he has the kind of speed to beat the ball to the returner.

  7. GeorgiaHawk says:

I saw that article on Lisowski Dukeshire. I can’t help but get excited about our special teams play this year with players like Lisowski and some of our draft picks that were also very good special teams players in College!

Of the 90 player active roster-

    20 are Rookies.

    18 are 2nd year players.

    14 are 3rd year players.

    That’s young, and talented overall!

And Trufant is the oldest at 31! 31 is so young to me. Lol.

  8. jboard1 says:

EWalters…that link seems to be dead. here is another…
I agree, very awesome to hear him say that. Not a fan of that show, especially for the hawks.

  9. Ewalters7354 says:

    Jboard,thanks bro..

  10. jboard1 says:

No problem. I was happy to see a link to something about this. I can’t stand the thought of this young team getting sidetracked by a “reality” tv show. SO glad to hear Pete diffuse this. The hope of spring is always great, I can’t wait to get this season started!!

  11. I have not been this optimistic for a season since 2006!

  12. Bobby, I’m optimistic too, but please don’t mention 2006… the year Ruskell overpaid Alexander and then lost Hutch…Bad juju. lol. I preferred 2005 myself.

I heard Vegas just predicted the Seahawks as a 7-9 team for this year. What a bunch of bull.

I think our team was essentially a 9-7 team last year, and has improved already. We lost 4 games last year by 3 points or less. In two of those losses, we had an injured QB and inexperienced O line, in the other two losses, we had injured WRs. We were very very close to being a 9 win team last year. Remember early December? 31-14 over PHI, 30-13 over STL, 38-14 over CHI. This year we should win at least 10 even if Tarvaris starts at QB.

Add Flynn, K2, Irvin, and Jones, and I’m expecting 10+ wins and a playoff game, minimum. That’s not a reach.

  13. Nomdeguerre says:

While it is wise to decline the HBO offer, I must admit I would have enjoyed watching it, and the rest of the nation might then realize the Pacific Northwest has a professional football team.

  14. Dukeshire says:

I agree, Stevo. I was far more optimistic heading into ’05, than coming off the Super Bowl debacle and the Hutch fiasco and SA contract.

  15. chuck_easton says:

Vegas and several East Coast guys had Seattle at 2-14 going into last season. Many had us winning the Luck sweepstakes. We finished 7-9.

So if they have us starting at 7-9 I’m guessing that, rounding up from the automatic deduction we are given due to being in Alaska, we are looking at a respectable 9 to 10 win season.

  16. raymaines says:

I too have hopes for a 10 to 12 win season, but the schedule is tough.

GB, NE, Dallas, and Chicago won’t be easy, SF is for real, AZ is improved and StL isn’t going to be the walk in the park they have been for the last few years.

  17. Dukeshire says:

As usual, I’m not concerned with win totals in-and-of themselves. Not so long as 7 win teams make the playoffs and 11 win teams sit home. For me, win the opener, defend home field, own the division, sneak in some road wins… this is the formula I prefer to measure a season (or to get to the playoffs and beyond). Of course, doing those things results in a certain amount of wins. But for me, the season becomes more process oriented this way. That is, a goal of say 10 wins, doesn’t guarantee anything, but those other things always do.

  18. Dude, the Dallas game will be easy. Home opener, Romo’s PTSD flashbacks throwing picks to everyone on our D (probably will set a record for most picks), it will be fun!!!

  19. bird_spit says:

For whatever reason, until now, I didnt think that we have the cowgirls for the first home game. LOL..that will be fun as hell. Romo, again this year, is getting hyped by the press. There is no mystery to Romo. Great game to have for an opener.

Game #3 is the test of all tests. I’m happy it is the third game in. Our Rooks will have seasoned on D by then. Our receivers will have gotten used to the velocity and angle of attack with our new QB (Flynn I assume). The OL will know the QBs timing, etc… If you have to play GB, this year, be happy it isnt the first game.

Holy crap I am psyched for the hawks this year. And yeah, not since 2006 have I felt this way too. 2006 team had a closing window of opportunity though (aging OL). 2012 hawks have an opening window of opportunity. I feel hawks can win this division in 2012, of course Alex Smith has to do his part too.

  20. Can you say – see you later?

I doubt this guy will be on the roster now. About the time that he is eligible to play will be about when Carp might be coming around too. unless he is PUP or IR

  21. I don’t see Carp playing until, what is it, the 6th or the 8th week for PUP, if at all.

  22. nighthawk2 says:

No wonder Barbre’s play improved. He should give some Carpenter, so then he might actually be able to pass block.
