Dan Pompei of the National Football Post examines whether or not Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and Detroit’s Kellen Moore are big enough to be successful quarterbacks in the NFL.

Here’s the takeaway quote from Seattle general manager John Schneider.

“He is the closest player I’ve done to Drew Brees and Jeff Garcia in terms of sliding, finding lanes and creating for himself,” Seattle general manager John Schneider said of Wilson. “He can slide and he has quick eye. From an accuracy, anticipation standpoint, he is the closest to Drew Brees.”

Pompei also shares his list of the top 10 short quarterbacks in NFL history.

I’ll take a closer look at some of the quarterbacks who have had successful careers in the NFL at 6-foot-tall in a blog post later today.

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com profiles Seattle seventh round pick defensive end Greg Scruggs.

Matt Bowen of the National Football Post takes a look at the benefits of OTAs.

Dennis Dillon of Sports Illustrated has a nice profile on new Seahawks defensive end Bruce Irvin

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports lists his top 100 player in the NFL. Seattle safety Earl Thomas is the only Seahawk to make the list at No. 97. That’s right, no love for Marshawn Lynch.

Pat Kirwan of CBS Sports discusses the “Big Nickel” and how teams are using a big fifth defensive back to match up to the two tight end hybrid sets that teams like the Patriots are effectively using. Sixth round draft pick Winston Guy seems like the obvious choice for Seattle to use as the team’s “Big Nickel” guy.

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times profiles former Seahawks quarterback Jon Kitna, who coaches and teaches at his alma mater Lincoln High in Tacoma.

Seattle receiver Ricardo Lockette joins the Sports Kings in Atlanta in this audio link.

If Mr Wilson turns out to be even close to Brees we will have hit a grand slam; however it even took Brees a few seasons before becoming the QB we call Drew Brees today. If tutoring beind Flynn speeds up that process and Flynn can perform well in the interim, then we will be set at QB for years to come.

I just want football season already!

Eric, rumors are floating around that TJack has not been around VMAC lately. Is that something to focus on, or a no big deal thing? Seems to me like he should be bustin his tail whether its voluntary practice or not because of the “competition” at the qb spot. Any thoughts?

  3. I’ve watched TJack and Flynn in NFL games. Flynn is better. I would trade both to the Saints for Brees though, backed up by Wilson. Saints may need to blow it up before long because they are the “Taints” now. New coaching and GM. Benson needs to punt this abortion.

  4. Soggybuc says:

TJ was around the other week for the official team activity. It could be something as simple as he promised his nephews a trip to Disney world and got that done last week.
Walter was never around in the off season except for OTA’s, when TJ misses one of those then get worried.

  5. Jboard1: Just rumors at this point. We’ll know more if T-Jack does not show up to OTAs this week.

  6. jboard1 says:

Thanks Eric. I figured as much, but found it odd he’d skip when there is so much work to get in.

  7. pabuwal says:

Wilson has very long arms and large hands – a big deal for a QB of his height. The things we type on a football board.

  8. HeinieHunter says:

No NBA team. Mariners are tanking in mid May as usual. I can’t wait for football this year! JSPC are unconventional in their approach but I really believe this team can be something special. They seem adept at fitting players will special skills into roles on the team. 49′s were very lucky with injuries last year….that can’t last forever in the NFL. I think this is going to be a FUN year.

  9. Just an outsider from AK looking in…but I see no way that T-Jax will be on this team come the start of the season. The Hawks have wrapped their money in Flynn…then Wilson is doing well so far. That will be one and two heading into the season. I truely doubt T-Jax is going to be the third. Its going to be an interesting competition! T-Jax will be gone to SAVE some money on the salary cap.

I do agree with lack of sports going on in Seattle right now. The Mariners are lucky to keep their heads above water. It was nice to see some bats wake up this weekend. Yes, it was Colorado..but maybe…just maybe…it might be the start of something! Not holding my breath though…Texas is tonight…hopefully the M’s can hit off of their Japanese star like they did last time…but this time…hold on to the WIN!

I have been enjoying the Thunder blasting on the Lakers. I know they are not the Sonics…but we all know they should be! It would have been exciting to of had them here the past few years. They are a team that is going somewhere…just not back to Seattle, where they belong!

I am the opposite. Every Thunder achievement is more salt in the wound. I love basketball, and esp when the playoffs come around, I am bitter that I no longer have a team to root for . . .

  11. I wish the Timberwolves would leave Minnesota and that you guys could have them. It’d make all of us happy. I grew up loving the NBA (not as much as football/baseball) and the old Philadelphia 76ers of the early/mid-80s, but I have grown to despise that sport.

Every snap T-Jack takes is a snap away from two QBs with more potential in Flynn/Wilson. And if they like Portis, he’s really going to get no snaps with three QBs in front of him. Nevermind the wasting $4 million on him if they prefer Flynn/Wilson, too. Mr. Happy isn’t afraid to go young, we know that. And Schneider has seen young work in Green Bay when Aaron Rogers was the most experienced Packer QB that one year with a combined zero NFL starts heading into the season.

  12. DaddyLove says:

If only he WERE 6 feet tall…

  13. I bet Pedro Martinez, Billy Wagner, Ron Guidry, Whitey Ford, and Tim Lincecum wish they were taller. Maybe they could have been good, too? Yeah-yeah… different sports. But you can’t tell me that everyone wants that big pitcher, as well, and those guys above certainly don’t fit that stereotype either.

  14. jchawks08 says:

I for one will NOT be worried if T-Jack doesn’t show up for any team related workout. I’m more concerned with how to spend that 4 million we’ll get back when he gets cut.

  15. jchawks08 says:

Yea, I was born and raised here in Oly, WA, and was a lifetime Sonics fan too. I have a ton of buddies rooting for the Thunder and I just can’t understand why. Screw that franchise. I loved what Steve Kerr said the other night. Something to the effect of “With respect to Sonic fans, I will not be counting any Sonics records as Thunder records.” That was in regards to the Sonics/Thunder not beating the Lakers in a series since 19xx whatever. So suck it, Thunder fans! :D
And go M’s, you oh-so-loveable losers!
Oh and BobbyK, I’d welcome the T-Wolves! Kevin Love is such a freakin’ beast!

  16. ToddSchneider says:

My favorite NBA team is the team playing OKC….

  17. bbnate420 says:

Why are so many people concerned with TJack’s 4 mil? The Hawks are nowhere near the cap! We won’t be using that money this year regardless. He will count for ZERO next year if he is gone, which is the next time the Hawks will spend big money on players. So just forget about it! IMO the ONLY reason they should cut/trade TJack before the year is IF they are sold on Wilson being able to win games as the number 2 and they believe they cannot afford to risk putting Portis on the PS.

Related to this, let’s all keep our panties on with regard to Wilson being the next coming of Brees OR even ready to be a competent backup right now. I like the kid but, he hasn’t done ANYTHING but look good in a ROOKIE minicamp so far! Let’s wait until they put the pads on at least!
