That’s right, it’s only a week after this year’s draft – so why not start the look toward 2013?
What’s interesting about all three mock drafts is not so much the players they have Seattle selecting, but the fact that all three project the Seahawks to miss the playoffs this season.
Andrew Perloff of Sports Illustrated makes the predictable choice of Seattle selecting USC quarterback Matt Barkley at No. 8 overall. Miami selected No. 8 this year and finished 6-11 in 2011. I’d be very surprised if Seahawks are drafting in the top 10 next year with the talent they have returning on the roster.
Peter Schrager of Fox Sports has a much more realistic take, with Seattle drafting No. 14 and falling just short of the playoffs. Schrager has Seattle selecting Texas defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, the son of longtime NFL defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat.
ESPN’s Todd McShay has Seattle selecting Baylor receiver Terrance Williams at No. 12 overall in his 2013 mock draft. You must be an ESPN Insider to view this.
Pete Prisco of CBS Sports takes a look at the needs for all 32 teams after the draft. Prisco believes Seattle will have issues at receiver if Sidney Rice and Mike Williams can’t stay healthy.
Bill Barnwell of Grantland lists Seattle as one of his teams that improved during the offseason with the addition of Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson. Bramwell: “Wilson’s 10 times the player Broncos second-rounder Brock Osweiler is, but because Osweiler is annoying to sit behind at the movies, Osweiler was chosen first of the two. Of course, there’s no guarantee that either of the two will turn into the long-term successor to Matt Hasselbeck, but Flynn and Wilson have the upside to at least inspire hope of a Seahawks team that won’t have to prop up its quarterback to win football games.”
Dave Boling of The News Tribune writes that it’s easy to understand why former Seahawks defensive end Anthony Hargrove willingly embraced the bounty program while in New Orleans – the Saints were the one team that gave him a chance after returning from a suspension from the league for drug and alcohol abuse.
ESPN’s Mike Sando looks at Seattle’s one big question – can Matt Flynn live up to the Green Bay hype?
Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated, who began his NFL reporting career covering the San Diego Chargers for the San Diego Union Tribune in 1995, writes that Junior Seau, who died too early at 43 years old on Wednesday, taught him the ins and outs of the league.
Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com, who covered many AFC West games featuring Seattle against Seau’s Chargers while working for the Seattle P-I, also remembers the talented linebacker here.
More Farnsworth: Fullback Michael Robinson is looking to build on last year’s Pro Bowl season.
I know at least one person on here that is really going to love this, one thing I do hope though, is that we pick really late next year.

Can someone please name a team that won’t have issues at WR if their top 2 go out?
Maybe the Pats would be ok?
Journalism at it’s finest write there Pete!

I’m not sure what the point would have been to draft a WR other than Floyd. All of the WRs after that would have done nothing but add to the jumble at the bottom of the depth charts. As for FA, most of the good ones were either old or signed before they could test the market. Manningham was probably the best of that bunch, but not exactly a must get either.
Not a problem MT, I quite often omit whole words or add extraneous ones in many of my posts. Never catch them until after they’ve been posted.

I think Hawks will be OK if we get out of M. Williams what I expect to get out of him, which is nothing. I think he fails to make the team this season.
Now Rice is a different story. If the Hawks are going to take a big leap on Offense this season, Rice needs to be at a near elite level, using his size & speed to become a real deep threat. Then if just one other of our receivers can make an improvement, be it Tate, Durham, or Lockette we will be good.

I suspect Prisco’s comment was also shaded by the fact Williams, and especially Rice, have major injury concerns. Nobody worries about Larry Fitzgerald staying healthy, because he does. Seattle has a greater risk of their top WR’s being hampered with injuries, because they have a history of it.

How did I know this thread was coming? And just when we were getting to actual football related topics… But, Jackson Jeffcoat would project as RDE. Unlikely Seattle drafts another weakside end after Irvin. Ugh, no more non-sense draft talk until 2013, for me.

Unless he he really begins to bulk up… OKAY! no more.

Duke, who do you see the hawks picking in the 2014 draft?

Elmo Dievers, punter, St Thomas Day School.

Are you kidding? He has no hang time whatsoever, and his tackling skills pale in comparison to Ryan… Poor choice Duke

I just completed a mock draft for the 2034 season, and I have our Seahawks taking my son at #28 in the first round. Very excited!

I should add that he’ll be born later this month.

yeah – WOW, very early but mcshay and kiper need to keep their careers rolling don’t they?
if duke is right, the hawks can have: ‘tickle me elmo’ day at the clink…a hands on approach to fan relations.
this year we will settle for: ‘pet the troll doll’ day:

@pfah – you mean to tell me that the hawks won’t win the superbowl in 33?
× Flag comment
Lol.
I guess what I’m taking from the Seahawks not drafting a WR in 10 picks is that they are happy with their WR corps, which mostly means everyone is rehabbing well from injuries. I think people forget our WR corps at the end of last season was a MASH unit. That said, there is a lot of young talent to compete. Best case scenario is that Lockette and Durham both develop into capable starters at split end, in which case BMW would not be missed at all.

I think the only areas I could say are weak-ish now would be TE and LB. Beyond those, injuries and rookie performance could help determine additional need.

I was trying to completely ignore the 2013 mocks all day long, but I can’t resist but comment. Who they pick is about as good a predictor as the mock I made the day before the last, but the telling thing is where they think Seattle will pick. Most think they’re going to stay the same or even regress (picking higher than #12). Now’s the time you can find out which writers are the Seattle haters whether they admit it or not. Even if every single player they drafted last week fell flat on their face, the overall youth of the team should say they will improve the team just from development. They didn’t lose anyone important in FA, so there’s no reason to believe they will do worse next year before OTAs have started.

Well, if Ruud doesn’t return to health and Wagner struggles with the transition, Heater’s going to look pretty damn important. But those are ifs… (And I know Wright can more to Mike, but that opens up the strong side.)
× Flag comment
I think its funny that they are trying to predict the 2013 draft when it was quite obvious, they couldn’t pick the 2012 draft. The first two were easy…after that…it was all up in the air with all the trading down.
As for the Hawks…only time will tell. I hope they selected well and the players they keyed on all make the team and become productive. I must admit, looking forward to the Seahawk season because watching the Mariners seem hopeless.
My prediction is that the Hawks will give the 49ers a run for the division title. I am ready for some FOOTBALL…12th man style…loud and rowdy!

We’re going to have a late (hopefully latest) 1st round pick so it really doesn’t (especially) matter.
There’s a successful season to worry about!

Consistency is all important.
If the talking heads are going to give the ‘Hawks a low grade for this draft, they have to give a top ten pick in the 2013 draft. I’m just not buying the concept.
SF is for real and AZ isn’t too bad either, but with a little luck the ‘Hawks could go 10-6, win the division, do some damage in the play offs and pick in the bottom ten. I can’t even imaging how they would be in a position to draft Matt Barkley or Landry Jones.
All this draft ’13 talk is just silly. It’s like when your stupid little tone deaf brother says he’s going to be a rock star or something. They’re just making stuff up out of their head. They might as well light their farts on fire for all the illumination they provide.

Please God! Please let training camp start in mid May. Please give us something of substance to talk about. Please don’t let me get sucked into any conversation about the 2013 draft. Give me tongue or finger cancer, anything.

I would bet that almost half of the players they have ranked as 1st rounders next year don’t even go in that round!

Its not about draft, but I just thought about something…
Is there any chance Pete is going to use Chris Clemons as a OLB?

I have a mock draft for ya -
1. a guy who will play and contribute someway RIGHT AWAY
2. a guy who will play and contribute over the course of the season
3-7 guys who will get a chance to play if they take a hold of the opportunity and put their God given talents towards making the seahawks better!

The NFL draft is great entertainment, but you have to wonder if they aren’t pushing their product a little too hard…. too much market saturation. With blogs, forums, expanded coverage pre-game, post-game, off-season, extra games, Thursday games, etc… so far the fans are all happy, but I wonder if they’ll hit a wall. As for me, I can’t get enough football, the killer is really the commercials. It’s getting these days that you watch a game, there’s a score – commercial break – extra point – commercial break – kickoff – commercial break – and then finally you get to see a few downs of football in a row. I’m not entirely sure, but it feels like the college game doesn’t have nearly as many interruptions.

interesting point macabrevity – they are definitely trying to squeeze all the revenue they can from their product. didn’t they recently try to make the games faster with a few rule (my feable mind can’t remember what they did) changes where they were trying to make the games fit into a 3 hour window? the problem for the fans is that the league knows how much we love our football, its like you said, ‘i can’t get enough football’. as long as the viewership is high and they can sell the advertisement there will be no scaling back, only pushing the limit…heck, they could even sneak some rule changes in there specifically to speed up the game without changing the broadcast time, thus making more time for the ads.

I find it interesting that no one has New Orleans drafting in the top ten.
I was really pi$$ed that Goodell didn’t take their 2013 #1 pick.
Don’t be surprised if N.O. wins less than six games this year and is rewarded with a top 5 pick. Which they will trade down and manufacture a boatload of picks
I’m just say’in…
× Flag comment
I don’t think it’s possible for a team that talented to finish with a top 5 pick.
× Flag comment
But, yeah, I agree about the #1 pick. Instead of taking a 2 away this and next year, I thought it should have been a #1 that they took. That’s why they did to the Pats with SpyGate (granted, that #1 was immediate and they didn’t have to wait a year to lose it).

Well, if we’re going to deal with the non-sense of 2013 mocks, might as well start talking about opening weekend lines…

Please Lord ( of the blog) (Eric) , change the headliner of the blog. It’s painful to come to THE seahawks insider and have 2013 Mock Draft as the only thing to comment on…
Someone pick up the phone, call Shawn Alexander and ask him anything (for example)…that would surely bring the commenters out..but the 2013 Mock .. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz..
Call Pete Carrol and ask what he ate for breakfast would be as valuable.

Macbrevity, I for one don’t care for the Thursday games except Thanksgiving, the Saturday games except playoffs and I’d be ok with them in the last week or two if they flexed in games with playoff implications. I’m also mad that MNF is no longer on network TV. The games are less special imo.
