That’s right, it’s only a week after this year’s draft – so why not start the look toward 2013?

What’s interesting about all three mock drafts is not so much the players they have Seattle selecting, but the fact that all three project the Seahawks to miss the playoffs this season.

Andrew Perloff of Sports Illustrated makes the predictable choice of Seattle selecting USC quarterback Matt Barkley at No. 8 overall. Miami selected No. 8 this year and finished 6-11 in 2011. I’d be very surprised if Seahawks are drafting in the top 10 next year with the talent they have returning on the roster.

Peter Schrager of Fox Sports has a much more realistic take, with Seattle drafting No. 14 and falling just short of the playoffs. Schrager has Seattle selecting Texas defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, the son of longtime NFL defensive lineman Jim Jeffcoat.

ESPN’s Todd McShay has Seattle selecting Baylor receiver Terrance Williams at No. 12 overall in his 2013 mock draft. You must be an ESPN Insider to view this.

Pete Prisco of CBS Sports takes a look at the needs for all 32 teams after the draft. Prisco believes Seattle will have issues at receiver if Sidney Rice and Mike Williams can’t stay healthy.

Bill Barnwell of Grantland lists Seattle as one of his teams that improved during the offseason with the addition of Matt Flynn and Russell Wilson. Bramwell: “Wilson’s 10 times the player Broncos second-rounder Brock Osweiler is, but because Osweiler is annoying to sit behind at the movies, Osweiler was chosen first of the two. Of course, there’s no guarantee that either of the two will turn into the long-term successor to Matt Hasselbeck, but Flynn and Wilson have the upside to at least inspire hope of a Seahawks team that won’t have to prop up its quarterback to win football games.”

Dave Boling of The News Tribune writes that it’s easy to understand why former Seahawks defensive end Anthony Hargrove willingly embraced the bounty program while in New Orleans – the Saints were the one team that gave him a chance after returning from a suspension from the league for drug and alcohol abuse.

Jim Trotter of Sports Illustrated, who began his NFL reporting career covering the San Diego Chargers for the San Diego Union Tribune in 1995, writes that Junior Seau, who died too early at 43 years old on Wednesday, taught him the ins and outs of the league.
