First reported by Larry Holder of CBS Sports, I have confirmed that Seattle Seahawks free agent linebacker David Hawthorne will visit New Orleans on Friday.

Three other teams also have shown interest in Hawthorne, but has not arranged visits with those teams yet.

It remains a possibility for Hawthorne to return to Seattle, but so far things have not heated up in terms of contract talks between the Seahawks and the team’s leading tackler the past three seasons.

However, the Seahawks reportedly have shown interest in Atlanta free agent middle linebacker Curtis Lofton.

Other teams that would make sense for Hawthorne include Denver, Chicago and Detroit.

I heard some of the talking heads on NFL Network (or was it ESPN?) saying that Lofton was out on third down. Not sure how accurate that is, they were discussing why certain positions were not getting the money in free agency anymore and that since the NFL “is a passing league” non-3 down linebackers weren’t getting the $$$ anymore. I do know that Lofton was conisdered the heart of the Falcons defense.

Prior to Williams leaving, I would have said he’s be a nice fit in that scheme. I presume they’ll keep things similar there, but you never know.

I really hope Heater doesn’t sign with the bum ass Saints. That’s where linebackers come to die!

  4. nighthawk2 says:

Saints need outside linebackers. Isn’t Vilma their middle linebacker?

  5. I think he’s going to get suspended for awhile.

Chances for Flynn might have just went up… Henne signed in Jax!!

  7. jarred767 says:

and it sounds like Shiancoe might be visiting the Seahawks soon…

  8. I wonder if Henne ever made it to Seattle?

  9. jarred767 says:

I heard he was supposed to be here today, but that’s a long trip from Florida, not sure.

  10. Great, Flynn is not going to leave VMAC without signing something, should be interesting, glad we didn’t get Henne.

i don’t know why we would be interested in loftin he can’t cover anyone, its his week spot.

NFLN La Canfora reporting Henne to Jags in 2 yr deal

Besides signing Red, we’ve been oftly quiet in free agency. Not like the Seahawks. All would be forgiven, of course, if we could get Mario Willimas. Any word on if he is visiting us? Lastly, it seems to me that Carrol is intent on letting Hawthorne and Hill go. I guess we’ll draft two LB’s in the draft.

  14. We may be interested in him b/c he’s not going to be on the field in 3rd and long situations. He would be good on early downs though, while more of a speedster gets in the game in longer yardage situations? Just thinking out loud.

Get me a Matt to play QB and I’ll be a happy camper!
