Hawks say door still open for Manning

Contrary to an earlier report by the Denver Post, a team source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that Peyton Manning has not declined an invitation to visit with the Seattle Seahawks, which means the door remains open that the future Hall of Famer could expand his trips to include a possible visit to Seattle.

The Seahawks reportedly were one of the first teams to contact Manning’s representation when his name hit the waiver wire on Thursday, and remain interested in hosting Manning for a visit to the Pacific Northwest so they can show him all that the organization has to offer.

For now, Seattle will have to wait to see if Manning will take any more trips after traveling to Denver and Arizona this weekend. But according to the team, Manning hasn’t shut the door on a possible visit to Seattle.

  1. Okay, I’m not gonna lie. This is, sadly, exciting for me.

I’d rather have, what I perceive, a long-term solution at QB (Flynn, Kolb, Tannenhill, etc.), but it’s still kind of “fun.” Some may be sick of this, understandably, but I’m kind of sucked in to this soap opera. It’s pathetic, really. lol

    Thanks for the update, Eric.

  2. chuck_easton says:

And my doors are still open for a visit from a little green leprechaun this Saturday and a six foot tall Rabbit bearing eggs ad chocolate next month.

I think my odds are better than the Seahawks of ever seeing Manning.

  3. If Manning is flying back to Florida I am going out on a limb and say he will not heading to Seattle for a visit in the coming days before he makes an announcement on where he would like to play.

  4. Maybe Mr. Happy is going to fly to Florida and camp out at his condo until he gets his meeting?

  5. Unless Paul Allen picks up Peyton in his space airplane that is being developed.

  6. JazBadAzz says:

I’m done reading this crap about manning…dead horse is being beat to a pulp! I’ll be back Tuesday when the free agents are available. No disrespect but I have heard it all and had enough! Peace :)

  7. Not good job, Eric. Great job. I don’t see any other sites that have reported this confirmation you’ve gotten. Keep up the good/great work! Thanks.

I’ll bet Duke is excited to hear there’s more to the story than simply Seattle being “out” of the running:)

  8. chuck, i know flynn is irish… and he wears a green jersey, but let’s not be racist here. calling an irishman a leprechaun?

  9. Now I know how all those “losers” felt who kept watching the OJ trial when I was in college.

  10. am_misfit says:

Suck it, Denver reporters. We’re not buyin’ it.

  11. I’d rather have (than Peyton Manning), what I perceive, a long-term solution at QB (Flynn, Kolb, Tannenhill, etc.) – BobbyK

I don’t even know where to begin with this.

  12. chuck_easton says:

    Go in peace jaz.

I’m pretty much with you. Unless Red and/or Heater sign tomorrow there’s nothing further to talk about.

But just for fun I’ll throw out one talking point.

If Manning does sign with Denver Tebow will likely be traded. Jacksonville has made no secret of their desire to bring Tebow home. Win or lose he will fill the seats there.

So if Jacksonville gets baby Jesus they probably won’t keep him and Gabbert.

Does Seattle make a play for Gabbert? No opinion one way or the other. Just doing the due diligence

  13. SeahawkFan12 says:

Leave it to the Denver Post to put out bullsh1t and lies. Woody Paige is dipsh1t, even if he isn’t the tool that reported this. Anyway, I’ll hang in and watch what happens. Wouldn’t mind seeing what shakes out with Flynn at this point but still would welcome a Manning visit.

  14. SeahawkFan12 says:

And Denver will not trade Tebow. Why would they?

  15. chuck_easton says:

They have pretty much said they will. Manning won’t go there if he has to listen to Tebowmaniacs chanting for timmay every time Payton throws an interception or incomplete pass.

I subscribe to the Denver post online.

  16. The smart thing for the Manning camp is to keep Seattle involved for negotiating purposes, even if there’s no interest in actually visiting. We’ve been used before.

Carson – Ideally, I’d rather have a guaranteed healthy Manning than Flynn, Tannenhill, or Kolb. Since it can’t be guaranteed, I’d rather have the potential long-term solution at the position.

  17. chuck_easton says:

Oh, and Arizona is 16.4 million over the cap now. They have until Tuesday to get below that. Then they have to find even more cap room to be able to consider Manning.

It’s looking more like Denver wins by default.

  18. We can sign Hutch tomorrow!

  19. SeahawkFan12 says:

I’d be all for bringing Hutch back! How is his health? How much longer can he play at a high level?

  20. He’s still good. He graded out as one of the best guards this past season (some stat crap and my own eyes… rest of the OL sucked). I’ll buy his jersey day one, too. Then nobody can say we suck b/c we lost Hutch! He’s “only” a billion times better than Gallery, still. LOL!

  21. RDPoulsbo says:

Only problem with Hutch is he’s a mauling man blocking guard. Seattle switched to primarily zone blocking after he left. Hutch’s bridges have been burnt here anyway. Move along.

  22. Raheem Brock✔

If Peyton goes to the #seahawks …….its a wrap!!!! Hes exactly what’s needed there! Then draft a QB to learn from manning!

    Raheem Brock✔

We have great receivers in #seattle no disrespect to tjack but peyton will elevate every1’s game w/his leadership and work ethic alone!

  23. Manningtodenver says:

Haha and who is your source, the Seahawks themselves? Of course they won’t admit they’re out!

Its also been widely reported he wants to end this process quickly. But you’re right, he flew from Denver to Arizona, to fly back to Miami, so he can fly back to Seattle after the time frame he’s expected to choose. Gotcha.

  24. Manningtodenver says:

    Oh, and go buffs!

  25. I love how people were on the Gallery bandwagon not to long ago and as you can see injuries have taken a toll on him now and he is not the dominant player he once was. Hutch is older now (34) and injuries have slowed him down and the Vikes didn’t want to pay $6.95 mill salary. You have to remember Hutch left the Hawks for $$$, he was a great player back in the day but if he really wanted to come back to Seattle he is not worth $6.95 mill. This FO wants to get younger not older on the OL. In my opinion, I am a big Hutch fan but don’t think the Hawks should bring him back.

  26. I feel the same about having Hutch back as I do about welcoming back Ken Behring.

  27. Dukeshire says:

The Seahawks ask about Manning. Manning’s camp says “no”. A “team source” says, he hasn’t rejected us… Enough! This is as embarrassing as me trying to get my ex-girlfriend back. If he had even a modicum of interest, he’d meet with them, not blow them off.

Eric, are you breaking this, or is it coming from a third party? F’ Manning! He’s not signing here! Next story please…

  28. Ah Duke, Manning is heading back to Florida today and catching a red eye on SouthWest Airlines tomorrow night to Seattle, duh…

  29. bayareahawkfan says:

Hey everybody! ACIB is back to troll with a new name!

Welcome, Manningtodenver! I look forward to solving the mystery of the many and varied topics upon which you’ll hold forth!

  30. Dukeshire says:

    dacmike – Exactly.

    Jesus Christ, this is ridiculous.

  31. Manningtodenver says:

Actually, I truly have no clue what you’re talking about…I’ve never even heard of this newspaper til I was google searching through the manning hype tour. Take it for what it is…but you won’t see me around here…So no offense but I’m not “trolling” unless you consider my common sense “trolling”

As someone else said “if he had interest he’d be meeting with them, not blowing them off”

  32. FleaFlicker says:

For all we know, the “I want to get a deal done by Tuesday” is a bargaining tactic by Manning’s agent. Just like when you get new cable service, it’s always a heck of a coincidence that “I’m not sure if this offer will be here if you don’t take it today.” Putting two or three bidding teams in competition against a [false] deadline is brilliant negotiating strategy, IMO.

If 34 year old, physically questionable PM is unwilling to even workout for a team that may end up paying him a huge salary, either he is reading too much of his own press clippings or he has a nagging injury situation and still wants to cash out.

What was that one guy’s name….Brian Bosworth or something?

  33. And I care about what some blowhole Bronco fan has to say about us? That’s right I don’t.

  34. For the record I have been against signing Manning as I see him now as a salary cap sucking QB who has a higher than normal risk for being one hit away from not playing again….ever. Good luck with that.

  35. If the ‘Hawks want to get a visit with Manning so badly, maybe they should call Brackett, Addai, and Clark and have them come to Seattle tomorrow.

Then when the new league year begins on Tuesday, they can orchestrate a trade with the Colts for Freeney. Maybe Manning doesn’t want to come because he thinks our pass rush is terrible and a team can’t win a Super Bowl with a rush as bad as ours currently is in?

Also, get Reggie Wayne on a plane for a visit on Tuesday.

Tell Brackett he can be our MLB, Addai can compliment Lynch (can’t imagine him getting a starting gig anywhere), Wayne can continue to be Manning’s go-to guy, and Freeney can rack up sack numbers playing with a prolific offense.

Then the ‘Hawks will have an “in” with Manning, something they don’t have right now.

We can be the Seattle Colts. Winners of the Super Bowl next Feb. Wouldn’t that really make Irsay mad? LOL!

  36. The12thMan says:

A Donkey fan calling Seahawk fans delusional, now that is hilarious! Duke you shouldn’t use the name of Denver’s QB in vain like that, you might attract more donkeys to our board!

  37. bigmike04 says:

I know ChuckEaston post that Arizona is 16.4 million over the cap now.

Thought they would have to released Levi Brown just to shed that + someone elsed to get under cap than Released Kolb to free up money..

Arizona should get Kevin Kolb another yr, thought Seahawks shouldn’t give Jackson another yr because Jackson isn’t worth having at QB positon for another yr.

Matt Flynn is so overated that I hope he goes to Cleveland because the guy had talent which made him look good.. If he goes to team like Browns who talent is some what good but not Green Bay Packers good & he doesn’t perform good..

Than all people who loved Flynn on here can eat crow.

  38. BlueTalon says:

Everyone here needs to take a deep breath, and then drink about five beers. All anybody knows for sure is Manning has visited Denver and AZ and is apparently on his way back to Miami. That deafening silence you hear is the sound of discretion. Manning isn’t making his plans known, and so the only thing we’ve been hearing is people connecting dots — putting 2 + 2 together and getting all kinds of different answers.

I want to see Manning visit Seattle, and I am not discouraged by anything I have heard so far. Manning DID make a point of contacting the Redskins and letting them know he wasn’t considering them. I really believe that if Manning has decided he doesn’t want to consider Seattle, he would have called the Seahawks and told them directly.

The fact that he hasn’t made that call yet is that he is still thinking and going through his process. We are still in consideration, whether that drives anyone here nuts or not.

  39. Soggybuc says:

Chuck, the Bunny doesn’t visit you every weekend? I’ll have a talk with him. it might be the Tinfoil. he really hates that, so best bet is to purge your home of any and all of it you can find.
As far as the Leprechauns trust me you really dont want them around at all. bunch of abrasive little pricks who’s only goal is relieve you of all your Whiskey.

  40. If for some reason Manning does decide to make his way up here for a visit, it will be perfect, the weather is suppose to be outstanding these next couple of days.

  41. Southendzone says:

I’ve flip flopped back to my original hope which was to sign Flynn. I was enamored with the Manning idea for a bit but no more.

I haven’t heard enough good about Tannehill to make me want him at # 12, it seems like a reach.

If it’s Flynn for $$ or Tannehill for our 1st pick, there’s no question to me which is better.

We need a TNT poll put up to find out where everyone’s at. Something like:
What is your #1 wish for Hawks at QB next year (alphabetically)
    1) Flynn
    2) Jackson
    3) Manning
    4) Tannehill
    5) Other

  42. Lets put the Manning thing to bed and please JS and PC dont beg him for a visit. If he wants to come fine but no begging.
Its quite clear as Chuck as pointed out from the start he wants to stay in the AFC and he wants a dome, I guess the Manning family want the Manning bowl next Feb.

Soutendzone. Unfortunately none of the options fill me with hope and so because of that im voting for TJack, not because I want him to but just because how the cards are falling i think he WILL be our starting QB and if thats the case I will support him 100%

I think paying up for Flynn or reaching for Tannehill is all a little bit desperate and I hope and also dont see this Front Office being desperate

  43. hawkfaninoklahoma says:

manning=favre old broken dowm qb not ready to let go of the spot light. sooner you all realize he is not whats needed here the better.the team doesnt need a 1-2 year fix it need long term fix.
taking a qb in the second and again in the 4th or 6th let them compete.2 fresh qb’s with tjack and portis is a start.

  44. HawkyHann says:

Brace yourself for some project QB named: Jackson, Flynn, Kolb, Edwards, Gerrard, Campbell or another guy no one else wanted to pay.

  45. chuck_easton says:

Throw Gabbert in there. If Manning goes to Denver the plane picking him up will likely keep the engines running to take Tebow back to Fla where he will join the Jags. That means Gabbert will likely be available via trade.

  46. Maybe Gabbert goes to Denver for Tebow and will learn under Manning himself?

  47. hawkfan777 says:

Great post! I think most of us already drank the 5 beers though.

It was still a good thought though.

  48. hawkfan777 says:

Here is an update from rotoworld on Manning. Of course I dont know if I trust anything that Schefter says.

Here is an update on Flynn.

Free agency is always interesting to watch. Hopefully the Hawks will make some good moves.

  49. ChrisHolmes says:

It’s Arizona or Denver for Manning.

    So time to move on…

    I’m guessing Miami lands Flynn.

    Who is left?

  50. HawkfaninMT says:

Hearing now that Manning may make a trip to Tennessee… i would trade our first in a heartbeat for Jake Locker if Manning went there

  51. bigmike04 says:

I don’t think Manning going to be signing any contract tommorow.. Latest breaking news is Titians are going to host Peyton this week..

As for Seahawks chances: I say 50/50.. I still believe we are in it.. All the report from people say they aren’t are coming from their spectulation.. Until Peyton does interview & say seattle isn’t than Seahawks are still in it..

If Peyton does go vist Titians this week than one could think that somethingi went wrong in denver & AZ..

I think also to point out that Peyton didn’t talk contract with AZ or Denver as his agent wasn’t with him..

AZ can’t talk contract due to fact their over the cap & will have to free up budget, so they would have to wait to for sure to know that Peyton want to go their before cutting guys.

  52. I’ve been thinking about why Manning wouldn’t visit us. I think the answer is that he perceives both the Broncos and the Cardinals as being closer to Super Bowl ready teams than the Hawks. And it may be the same with the Titans. I would imagine that despite what we think and feel about our Hawks (“We’re just a Manning away from winning the SB,”) Manning’s and most of the country’s is: Seattle=Jacksonville, Cleveland, Raiders, Buffalo, etc. i.e., an also-ran team that has no legitimate shot at the SB anytime soon. I don’t think Manning cares about the money much; he’s not going to take one team because they offer him $2 million more per year or a bigger signing bonus. He wants the closest thing he can get to a shoo-in to the SB. We ain’t close. [Except in my blue tinted glasses.]
