According to the team’s web site, Seattle Seahawks defensive end Chris Clemons will be named the NFC defensive player of the week. An announcement by the league is expected tomorrow.

Clemons totaled three sacks and two forced fumbles against St. Louis on Sunday, upping his sack total to eight on the year, good enough for ninth overall in the league.

Clemons is the first Seahawk to receive player of the week recognition this season. Last year, punter Jon Ryan, kicker Olindo Mare and returner Leon Washington all received special teams player of the year honors.

  3. this is terrible news for such a promising young team… :(

Hope it sparks a flame under Raheem brock arse!

Remember when people were upset the team traded Tapp for Clemons?

  6. Dukeshire says:

nidhighe – I remember. Mostly because I was one of them. In truth, I was disappointed more than upset that Tapp was traded because he was one of my favorites (unlike Josh Wilson where I really was upset). But there’s no question it was a great move and an upgrade at the position.

The thing about Clem that’s been most impressive to me is that he’s more than simply a speed rusher, he’s solid against the run as well. In addition, I really thought his 11 sacks last season were mostly due to the scheme (the under front), but they’ve shifted to an over front this year and he’s on pace for that total again.

  7. Speaking of Tapp, that was a Tapp like effort Clemons had on Sunday where he abused some third string Rams Tackle. Hopefully, he doesn’t pull a Tapp and disappear right after that.

  8. Dukeshire says:

pab – I thought too that Clem this year (not last) is having Tapp like production, in terms of pass rush: all or nothing. 5 of his 8 sacks have come in two games. Still and all…

  9. Sarcasticus says:

Clemons would be better if not for the VMAC and the trainers.
