Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that Paul McQuistan will start at right guard instead of Lemuel Jeanpierre for the injured John Moffitt.

McQuistan started three games at left guard when Robert Gallery was out with a groin injury, so Carroll feels confident he can make the switch to right guard and be effective playing alongside right tackle James Carpenter.

“He’s played before,” Carroll said. “He has a little more experience. Also we have a situation with Lem where he’s the backup snapper in this game. We’ve got to make sure that with only two snappers available to us, we’ve got to make sure he’s available to us if we need him.”

Carroll said that the team won’t know until later in the week on Anthony Hargrove and Atari Bigby on how they recover from the hamstring injuries, and that both likely will not practice today.

In term’s of Moffitt, Carroll said the team has no specific time table on his recovery from the MCL and PCL tear in his right knee, but they’re hoping they can get him going sometime in early spring doing some football related drills.

“The good thing is it’s not an ACL, so it’s a little different in that regard,” Carroll said. “So it might be a little quicker. Those are usually in nine months and eight months, in there. So maybe we get him a little bit before that. But we won’t know until they take a look at it. They can’t even operate on him for awhile. They got to let this thing calm down before they go after it. So we won’t know until they get in there and see what happened.”

Carroll feels good about the possibility of Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor returning from concussions this week. All three will not practice today, but Carroll is hopeful they will be ready by the end of the week.

In the meantime, Chris Maragos and Jeron Johnson will get time at safety alongside Earl Thomas with the first unit with both Chancellor and Bigby out.

And Ben Obomanu will work at flanker with the first unit with Rice out. Mike Williams will be at split end, and Golden Tate will get some run inside at slot receiver.

  1. I’m still trying to figure out how the 5th best WR on the team is starting:

    1). Rice
    2). Baldwin
    3). Obomanu
    4). Tate
    5). Williams

It seems awfully hard to sit Baldwin or Obo in favor of Williams at this point.

I’m interested in seeing Johnson play although if it comes down to it, I’d guess Maragos would start at SS as he’s seen time at the Bandit in that sub package.

I’m trying real hard to find something wrong with your post because, well, I feel like arguing.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you. Darn.

I guess I’ll just have to go back to my work…

  4. It’s true – Williams’ production has really gone down this year. 12 catches for 130 yds in 7 games. That is nothing.

What has happened? Is it TJ not looking his way? Or MW just not getting open?

  5. “Chris Maragos and Jeron Johnson will get time at safety.”

    Who? Get well Kam . . .

  6. Williams should have at least two more TD’s and who knows how many more receptions. I think T. Jack needs to give it up to him a little more, that’s why I would blame him over Williams.

  7. Half of Williams’ catches last year came in just 3 games. It’s not like he was the model of consistency last year.

  8. I think Williams has less catches because although Pete preaches not turning the ball over, Hasselbeck is a bit of a gunslinger at times and last year he just trusted that Williams would be open or catch the ball and threw it his way regardless. Matt had that respect from the coaches and was allowed to be a little more reckless in getting the ball to Mr. Williams. So, I think TJ wanting to prove himself here as well as being on a shorter leash as far as making turnovers is why he won’t throw the ball toward Williams’ side unless he is sure that he Williams is WIDE open which he rarely is but can make the catch because he positions his body well against the defender. I don’t TJ is there yet in his trust of that situation. just my two cents….

  9. and I’m retarded and cannot type…..geez with the grammar…and leaving words out. I give up for today….

  10. What have Obo and Tate done to be ranked ahead of BMW? He dominated a couple of games last year. He should be getting the ball more often.

  11. I can count how many times on 2 hands the amount of times Williams was the primary read in the last 4 games……. Tarvaris is simply not looking his way.. Mike has never gotten much separation from corners.. He out muscles them and fights for the ball. When he is open …he’s not even looked at…

  12. I mostly blame Bevells lack of use for williams as well as miller.

Put Miller in at RG or RT now. He’s been kept in to block and asked to chip so much he’s probably a better blocker than anyone we can have replace Carp or Moffitt.
