Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that Paul McQuistan will start at right guard instead of Lemuel Jeanpierre for the injured John Moffitt.
McQuistan started three games at left guard when Robert Gallery was out with a groin injury, so Carroll feels confident he can make the switch to right guard and be effective playing alongside right tackle James Carpenter.
“He’s played before,” Carroll said. “He has a little more experience. Also we have a situation with Lem where he’s the backup snapper in this game. We’ve got to make sure that with only two snappers available to us, we’ve got to make sure he’s available to us if we need him.”
Carroll said that the team won’t know until later in the week on Anthony Hargrove and Atari Bigby on how they recover from the hamstring injuries, and that both likely will not practice today.
In term’s of Moffitt, Carroll said the team has no specific time table on his recovery from the MCL and PCL tear in his right knee, but they’re hoping they can get him going sometime in early spring doing some football related drills.
“The good thing is it’s not an ACL, so it’s a little different in that regard,” Carroll said. “So it might be a little quicker. Those are usually in nine months and eight months, in there. So maybe we get him a little bit before that. But we won’t know until they take a look at it. They can’t even operate on him for awhile. They got to let this thing calm down before they go after it. So we won’t know until they get in there and see what happened.”
Carroll feels good about the possibility of Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin and Kam Chancellor returning from concussions this week. All three will not practice today, but Carroll is hopeful they will be ready by the end of the week.
In the meantime, Chris Maragos and Jeron Johnson will get time at safety alongside Earl Thomas with the first unit with both Chancellor and Bigby out.
And Ben Obomanu will work at flanker with the first unit with Rice out. Mike Williams will be at split end, and Golden Tate will get some run inside at slot receiver.
