Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said that he was a little optimistic in his initially assessment of linebacker Matt McCoy, and that in fact he will needed to have arthiscopic knee surgery in a week to repair damage in his knee, and will be placed on the season-ending injured reserve list.

A couple other guys will not practice today, including receiver Mike Williams (concussion), tight end Zach Miller (knee/ankle), Malcolm Smith (hamstring) and defensive lineman Anthony Hargrove (hamstring).

“Zach’s got a knee and a ankle that both got banged on one play,” Carroll said about Miller. “He’s a little sore and we think he’s going to be okay. But we’re going to give him a little rest today.”

Safety Kam Chancellor (quad) also will not make it back today, although Carroll said he’s getting better and the team his hopeful to have him at the end of the week.

Byron Maxwell (ankle) returns to practice after missing the last three games. Carroll also said that offensive lineman Robert Gallery is getting closer, and the he will do some light running today, but will not practice.

Carroll was asked why his team is struggling to generate turnovers this season. The Seahawks have only created two turnovers this season and have a -4 turnover ratio. Carroll says it all starts with the pass rush. Seattle has only five sacks on the year.

“It’s one of my most frustrating issues, because we understand how important it is and how it works toward winning” Carroll said. “And we’re trying to do everything we can. But here’s the factor you can point to – when you don’t affect the quarterback and you’re not getting to him – and we didn’t get any sacks last week – that’s where most of it starts.

“We’re ripping at the ball. We’re doing our things to try and get the ball away from guys when they’re carrying it, but it’s the quarterback position that’s really the vulnerable spot. So forcing him to throw the ball poorly, or to make a mistake or to know the ball out of his hands, that’s usually the first issue that you turn to, and it’s the most important one to try and get done.”

Seattle linebacker Jameson Konz talked about the opportunity of being on the active roster for the first time in his career.

“Definitely,” Konz said. “I mean you just go out there every day and show them what you can do. And this is the opportunity you wait for. So yeah, it feels good.

“I think my versatility definitely helped. The fact that I can play multiple positions, special teams and stuff like that, but I have to continually show what I can do and make an impact.”

So does the converted tight end feel like he’s a defensive player now?

“Yeah, I’m officially a defensive player,” Konz said. “But I still like I can play wherever they need me, too. So it really doesn’t matter.”

  1. How is BMW coming along? What a guy – loved his block on their FS on Lych’s TD run. But he has to be able to block without getting concussed.

I love Konz’s attitude. He’ll do anything you ask and with enthusiasm. Well, they’ll need Miller this weekend and I really hope to see Kam back too. With they way NY can run the ball and as physical as their receivers are, I much prefer his play.

  3. Soggybuc says:

The Konz is so fast, he can run around the Earth and kick himself in the back of the head!
The Konz tears can cure cancer, too bad he has never cried!

Sounds like the anti Aaron Curry.

Re: Konz’s attitude, listen to this interview he did after he was activated. Hope he tears it up on special teams on Sunday.
