The Seattle Seahawks remained busy today, cutting down to 82 players in anticipation of tomorrow’s deadline by the league to get down to an 80-man roster.
The Seahawks released WR Brandon Smith, LB Neal Howey, DL Teryl White, WR Chris Carter, WR Patrick Williams, FB Ryan Travis, CB Jesse Hoffman and OL Zach Hurd.
Seattle still has to cut two more players before Tuesday.
No surprises there. When do they start adding players to the practice squad?

Chris Carter looked good but he is just doug Baldwin but not quite as good, so… I’m scared that Lockette won’t make the practice squad. I have a feeling he is going to be a impact player in the league. I hope it is with the Seahawks.

I just re-watched the game and I truly noticed that 3 of those sacks were on Tjack.He had 3 seconds to throw the ball and he held on to it.Sidney Rice was wide open on one play and he took a sack.Also the pass interference call helped Tjack a bundle because he actually overthrew Sidney.All that to say this.The oline isn’t as bad as it looks.They have improving to do up front but its not all on them.Pete can cover things up with the best of them.So him sticking with Jackson is but for a moment.

I don’t see a scenario where any of those 6 get cut. Except Baldwin. But he’s, seemingly, done too much to get cut.

If Doug Baldwin gets cuts by any means I’m gonna be through.Golden Tate or Durham makes it over him will make no sense.Hopefully Pete is smart enough to keep a good player and not hope he clears waivers for the ps

Williams
OBO
Baldwin
then
Tate and Durham in a dead heat.
I see Baldwin ahead of those other guys – especially since he is proving he can return kicks. That allows the team to use him instead of LW if they don’t want to. Butler has a long road back IF he comes back at all this season.
I don’t see how Lockette or Stanback have a chance at all – I don’t think Stanback is PS eligible

@Ewalters7354 I got a chance to watch the game on tape delay last night finally.
The sacks, to a large degree, are on Jackson. He has no idea where to go with the football when he reaches the last step on his drop. Almost every offense in the league runs some of the standard principles of the West Coast offense, which means reading the defense pre-snap and during the dropback so that you can get rid of the football when the drop is reached. The WCO ties the throw to the feet. This was one of the things I loved about watching Hasselbeck QB (and Zorn coach him).
Jackson doesn’t do that – ever. And it’s because his pre-snap reads are a like a kindergartner trying to read “War and Peace”. He just doesn’t know what to do with the ball. As he makes his drop, he still doesn’t know where to go with the ball. He can’t get off his first read to find open receivers and he can’t manipulate safeties with his eyes to create open receivers… He’s just a bad, bad, bad QB.
I think the offensive line has a lot of promise. It’s going to take time to come together. But I trust in Cable to bring them together. I love what he did with the Raiders. I don’t think the Raiders had a great OLine (does anyone remember the Bed and Breakfast OC who used nothing but 7-step drops and got the QB killed?) But Cable turned that team into road graders. They could run the ball on anyone.
I think Seattle’s OLine is going to come together over time. But they need a confident, sure trigger-man who can deliver the ball with timing and who can anticipate openings in the coverage .Jackson can’t anticipate openings. He waits for guys to come open, and in the NFL that doesn’t cut it. That’s a college read and a college way of playing Qb and it does not work in the NFL.

A lot of what you say is true. Traditional WCO principles are 3 steps and out. 5 steps and out, etc… But to be fair, none of us know if he’s locating the safeties before the snap (one of the most basic principles of any pre-snap read) or if it’s a matter of recognition, or indecisiveness or what. The results are the same; awful. But we ought to be careful to presume we know what’s going through his head (or not) as he’s processing all the info coming at him in those few seconds.

Interesting that there are still two cuts to be announced. You would think that the team would already know the other two players.
The conspiracy theory guy in me says that the delay could be the team is trying to reach some type of injury settlement or possible trade.
It may just be they can’t get ahold of the two guys and don’t want them finding out through the media, but I like intrigue. It starts my workday off much better.

This may not be popular, but I say they cut Obo. I think he has reached his potential, and has little upside. As much as I like him, I see him at best to be a 3rd or 4th receiver. I would rather go with the younger guys and develop them. I know there is a lot of Tate bashing, but he has a lot more upside and they need to get him in the game to be developed. Same with Baldwin and Durham.

That was out of left field there arna. Why cut a dependable #3 guy who you know will give you a consistant performance to take a chance with rookies that may or may not pan out?
Tate has proven he’s not ready. Durham will likely be on the team but he’s not ready to step in. Baldwin has almost certainly earned a spot.
The three dependable guys we have are BMW, Obo, and Rice. Those are the three starters. I think they will keep 6 receivers and Tate, Baldwin and Durham will be the other three.

Cutting Obo would be a mistake. Just imagine if we have a couple of injuries to the WR corps. Next thing you know, we’re starting Baldwin and Tate.

I don’t understand why cutting Obo makes sense. Presuming he has reached his ceiling, that makes him a very effective receiver that can line up in multiple spots. IMO, he’s the most well rounded and polished receiver of the bunch, behind Rice.

maybe keep him for another year or so, but I don’t see Obo in long term plans. That has been Carrol’s MO all along, to release people who he doesnt see helping him in the future. (see hasselbeck and tatupu). Yes, he is a good #3, but I think he has peaked and I don’t see Pete keeping him around. just my opinion.

Above all Carroll has valued versatility, which is exactly what Obo brings and ton the opposite of Matt and Lofa Ben is not overpaid or at the end of his career.

Duke has it right – OBO is not great at anyone thing but he is rounded in all skills and is polished in all positions. The versitility OBO has gives us 3 times the depth of ANY of our receivers including rice….
In all honesty KJ Durham is less than impressive. I think he only makes it if we keep 6.
