This is a new feature we created for training camp this year. Each day we’ll highlight one of the younger players on the Seattle Seahawks roster. Today, we talk to fifth round pick safety Mark LeGree of Appalachian State.

Working 9 to 5

During the NFL lockout Legree said he worked a summer construction job as a landscaper to earn some extra cash instead of taking out a loan to tide him over until training camp started.

“There were offers there from people out there to lend me money,” LeGree said. “But I was just sitting there all day – except for the time I did my workouts – so I figured it would be good for me to just get up, stay active and earn my own money.”

A ball hawk
LeGree finished with a school-record 22 interceptions during his college career, so he has good ball instincts. Now LeGree has to prove that he can do those same things at this level.

“I think I have good range for a safety,” he said. “I can cover the deep ball, and I can make a play on that deep ball at the highest point. I consider myself a smart player, and I love to communicate with my other teammates.”

Making the most of it

LeGree said he’s excited to be in Seattle playing for an NFL, and will take advantage of the opportunity.

“It’s a dream come true,” LeGree said. “It’s finally hit me now that I’m here in the facility with all these coaches and all of these pros. I feel like a pro now, and I’m not going to let this chance slip by. I’m going to make the most of it.”

Kung Fu time

When he’s not playing football, LeGree said he enjoys playing video games and watching movies. His favorite flick is Kung Fu Panda.

“I think it captures people by surprise, but it’s a good movie for everyone in the family – for grown ups all the way down to kids,” said LeGree.

I love this kid – really excited about watching playmakers on the back end, for once.

But let’s talk about something important for a second: who does Eric choose to replace Matt for the blog’s logo picture? I believe ShAlex preceded Matt as the icon…

    …Beast Mode? BMW? Lofa?

  2. bayareahawkfan says:

    My vote = ET.

  3. hell be a special teamer, if not cut.

we need a strong safety and cb.

also, earl thomas and marshawn lynch are two of the ugliest people ever.

  4. Dukeshire says:

    Lofa or Okung.

After Legree said he liked to dance, Eric asked him if he meant break dancing. lol. Nice Eric.

There’s nothing not to like about Legree. There are a lot of solid dudes on this team.; Hawthorne, Forsett, Washington, Thomas. etc… I love it.

  5. Dukeshire says:

Why do you think he can’t earn a spot at SS, at worst behind Chancellor?

  6. Soggybuc says:

He’ll be on the squad and take Babs spot. kam will be SS

I vote for Beast or the little big man for the photo spot.

  7. Please put Okung’s picture up there, Mr Williams.

  8. I vote for BMW’s pic. Second choice: ET.

Lots of young talent in camp. Hope a few turn into stars.

  9. Dukeshire says:

Lol. Well I guess there’s no need for him to even try then.

  10. Dukeshire says:

Not to be overly dramatic or anything, but I would sure feel much better if Seattle and Mebane had already agreed to terms. I hate the idea that he’s “available” when UFA can officially sign.

Although according to this little “rumor”, perhaps he’s made a decision…

  11. grizindabox24 says:

Hawks sign Alan Branch and resign Junior

  12. chuck_easton says:

It was mentioned on another site that Denver can’t afford Mebanes asking price. Maybe he and his agent have set the bidding a tad too high?

If that’s the case Seattle should just put their best offer on the table and tell him if he gets a Better deal then come on back to see if we can match it.

  13. freedom_X says:

If Mebane hasn’t buried the hatchet since he felt unwanted by Seattle earlier in the year – I doubt a “matching” offer would work. He’d probably pull a Hutchinson and just leave if Seattle won’t give him an offer he likes.

  14. williambryan says:

Seattle still must have plenty of cap room to give Mebane what he wants, and he may be stringing the team along for not “taking care of him” before the lockout, but I think it will end well for both sides, with him remaining a hawk

  15. RADEoN, Legree WILL be on this team. Book it. He’s too talented and versatile not to be. He CAN play both safety spots and would be an asset on special teams I believe. So even if he cannot beat out Kam for the SS spot, he still provides depth at both SS and FS. If Babs doesn’t come back then we will need that.
