The Seattle Seahawks announced this afternoon they have signed 19 undrafted rookie free agents, bringing their roster to 73 players heading into the beginning of training camp this weekend.

The Seahawks can have up to 90 player on the team’s training camp roster.

Two players on that list stood out for Rob Rang, senior draft analyst for

Rang called Nebraska defensive end Pierre Allen the crown jewel of the class. At 6-foot-4 and 270 pound, Allen was considered a mid-round draft prospect, but went undrafted because of lingering hamstring issues. But Rang thinks Allen has a chance to make Seattle’s final roster as a Leo defensive end.

“They got a guy I consider a fourth or fifth round pick, and they got him as an undrafted free agent,” Rang said. “And I know that other teams were battling for them.”

“He’s a good football player. Of all of the undrafted free agents I’ve seen some far, Pierre Allen, I would be surprised at this point if he didn’t make a real run at a roster spot. He’s going to get a shot, and we’ll see if he can take advantage of it.”

Rang also had high praise for receiver Ricardo Lockette. At 6-foot-2, 211 pounds, Lockette ran a 4.37 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.

“Whether it’s been Alex Bannister or Jordan Kent he’s one of those guys with a rare combination of size and pure speed. He’s raw, and his hands our inconsistent. But you give him a chance and see what he can do. He bring an element of speed that the team lacks. By adding them, he gives them a long speed threat that obviously they’re missing.”

Here’s the full list.

DT Ladi Ajiboye (South Carolina), DE Pierre Allen (Nebraska), WR Doug Baldwin (Stanford), FB Dorson Boyce (Washington), DE Jarrett Crittenton (Middle Tennessee State), P John Gold (Texas), CB Jesse Hoffman (Eastern Washington), G Michael Huey (Texas) T Zach Hurd (Connecticut), S Jeron Johnson (Boise State), QB Zach Lee (Nebraska), WR Ricardo Lockette (Fort Valley State), LB Deron Minor (McNeese State), LB Mike Morgan (USC), G/C Brent Osborne (Harvard), CB Ron Parker (Newberry), QB Josh Portis (California Pa.), S Rickey Thenarse (Nebraska), TE Ryan Travis (West Liberty).

Eric, do you expect more UDFA signings still to come? or is this it?

  2. Just got a text via kjr saying hass no longer a Seahawks… Usually the news hits online first but couldn’t find it..

Sorry dont have time to browse all my sources today

  3. Danny O Neil says the Seahawks signed another FA QB today which ends Hasselbeck’s tenure with the Seahawks.

  4. chuck_easton says:

That has been reported on several sites now.

There is debate on who pulled the plug. Some sites are saying Seattle pulled themselves out of the bidding. Other sites are saying Hasselbeck didn’t like that Seattle wouldn’t guarantee the second year (but they did supposedly offer him a two year deal).

It’s now being reported that Seattle has ‘dealt’ for another QB. No word who/why/how much it cost or anything like that.

Disclaimer: These are all unconfirmed reports (except that Matt will not be a Seahawk this year).

  5. Right, the exact term was that the Seahawks “acquired” another veteran QB.

“Hasselbeck’s chance to return evaporated Tuesday after the Seahawks apparently reached an agreement to acquire another quarterback. Who that quarterback will be was not immediately clear.”

  6. williambryan says:

wow, there’s talk about favre really coming to seattle… It reminds me of a article in the TNT a few years back that had a photoshopped pic of Favre in a seahawks jersey. now it may be coming true…Yikes. I am hoping that the mystery QB is vince Young (apparently it is not Kolb or Tjackson)…

  7. Are they allowed to sign FA’s right now? I thought they had to wait until Friday morning? So does that mean they just dealt for a QB?

  8. williambryan says:

disregard my last comment. apparently there is a false adam schefter on twitter…

  9. Dukeshire says:

pab – That’s correct, Friday to sign UFAs.

For what it’s worth I keep getting texts from friends in Vegas who are saying Seattle as acquired T Jackson. Apparently it was on the radio. I’m looking for conformation…

  10. As much as I like and respect Hass, giving him a two year guaranteed situation, at his salary range, is clearly not in a rebuilding teams’ best interests…..
    Not prudent by any scale…

  11. What are (were) Josh Portis’ character concerns?
