Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll participated as a guest speaker for an event Friday evening at the Tacoma Dome highlighted by one of the last appearances in the United States by South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

The program was part of the “Be the Spark” movement started by The Greater Tacoma Community Foundation, along with the University of Puget Sound, Pacific Lutheran University and others to inspire citizens to take action and make the community a more positive place to live.

“Let’s get inspired – allow ourselves to be moved,” Carroll said to a crowd of 650 people at a $250-a-head, sold out dinner that also included Bill Gates Sr. and Tutu as speakers.

Carroll will host a coaching clinic at Stanford on Sunday.

Carroll at a speaking engagement with Desmond Tutu? That is some heady and mighty impressive company he’s keeping. Quite an honor.

For what it’s worth, I totally agree with Lombardi’s assessment of the Leinart to Seattle rumors.

Also, it looks like Carroll will be hosting a coaches clinic in Seattle on June 17th as well.

Marshawn Lynch was my favorite player in the NFL long before he became a Seahawk and I’m glad he’s in Seattle.

  3. Matt Leinart would provide nice competition for J.P. Losman. They could have a contest to see who gets happier feet in the pocket.

With the likelihood of two rookie starters on the Seahawks OL next season, the QB – whomever it is – had better be prepared to get hit.

  4. I was expecting Pete in a tutu. You can imagine my letdown.

ACIB – I’m always fascinated to listen to Lynch talk. His delivery is incredible. Know what I mean, bossman? lol
