James Carpenter meeting

This man is huge. He looks bigger than Okung, at least thicker. Comes off as very genial, but extremely soft-spoken. He called himself very laid-back, and claims that he’s actually much more out-spoken than he used to be.

He said most of the same things he did on the phone after he was drafted. He plays a physical game, he said. Tried to get him to talk about some of his best hits, but he said he had many of them and would not elaborate.

His mom and dad were there. The dad used to work

Seahawks select Kris Durham at No. 107

The Seattle Seahawks select WR Kris Durham with the No. 107 pick. At 6-5, 216 pounds, Durham gives Seattle another big target on the perimeter, and also will serve motivation for guys like Golden Tate and Deon Butler to work hard this offseason.

Looks like a guy who can work the seams of a defense as an H-back. Perhaps he also serves as motivation for Mike Williams to stay in shape this offseason.

This guy ran a 4.42 40. Missed junior season with torn labrum. Was an academic honor roll guy.

Seahawks select K.J. Wright at No. 99

The Seattle Seahawks select OLB K.J. Wright out of Mississippi State. At 6-foot-3, 246 pounds, Wright projects as a Leo or WILL linebacker.

Interesting choice.

Wright had to keep his voice down when Schneider called to tell him he was drafted: He was walking through his graduation ceremony.

This guy looks very long and lean. Mayock says he’s raw. Most of us would have expected them to add to the pile at defensive line or corner back. The explanation will be interesting, but it seems obvious they’re sticking to their board and taking their highest rated guy.

A few minutes with John Moffitt

Wisconsin offensive lineman John Moffitt. (AP file photo)

We talked to University of Wisconsin offensive lineman John Moffitt on the phone just a few minutes ago, and he’s a pretty personable kid.

Moffitt said he had an idea that the Seahawks were interested heading into the draft, and he might wind up in Seattle. Moffitt said he looks forward to playing for head coach Pete Carroll and offensive line coach Tom Cable. Moffitt also says he’s a Nirvana fan.

“They called me a couple days ago asking me if I had any reservations about coming out to Seattle, which of course I didn’t at all. But it’s hard to tell in this whole process, because some teams show interest and aren’t interested. And some teams show no interest, and are interested. So I was kind of in the middle.”

Hawks select OG John Moffitt with No. 75 pick

After trading back in the draft to pick up an extra selection in Day 3, the Seattle Seahawks finally made a pick today, beefing up the offensive line once again by selecting Wisconsin offensive guard John Moffitt.

So, Tom Cable once again shows his influence on the draft for Seattle, getting another player to help improve an obvious area of need for Seattle.

2nd round: Hawks trade No. 57 pick to Detroit

The Seattle Seahawks made a trade today, something we expected would happen in the first round.

Seattle traded its No. 57 overall pick in the second round to Detroit for

The Lions then selected Illinois running back Mikel Leshoure with Seattle’s original pick.

So here’s the deal:
Seattle gives up second round pick (No.57), a fifth round (157) and a seventh (209).
And the get Detroit’s 3rd (75th), 4th (107), 5th (154) and 7th (205).

So basically the Seahawks traded a second-round pick for Detroit’s third and fourth-round picks, and swapped spots to move up in

Report: Owners get temporary stay of injunction, lockout back on

The NFL labor situation continues to have more twists and turns than a trip up Mount Rainier to Paradise visitor center.

According to reports, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has granted the league a temporary stay of the injunction lifting the lockout this afternoon in St. Louis, which means the lockout is back on, just hours after players were allowed back into facilities today.

So just when it appeared the league year would begin in earnest, including the possibility of free agency and trades, it appears the breaks have been slammed on today on that process.
