Two picks after grabbing cornerback Richard Sherman, the Seattle Seahawks go back to the defensive secondary again, selecting free safety Mark Legree of Appalachian State. At 6-foot, 210 pounds, Legree appears to be a combo guy that can play both free and strong safety.
Legree was a dominant player in Football Championship Subdivision play (former Division I-AA), a three-time All-American with 22 career interceptions, finishing his career as the active leader in FCS play. And from watching the video below, this guy brings the wood.
I think we got some help @ DB, and STs.

. . .and there goes Enderle. . .

Phone quotes: Nobody other than Appalachian offered him a scholarship. His first game in college was the win over Michigan. Came from small high school, with 28 students in his graduating class.
Says he thinks he’ll get a chance to start, but he’s listed at free safety, so he’ll have to go a ways to challenge Earl Thomas.

Is Babs a FA?

Wonder if he can play corner, since there’s no way I believe he can overthrow Earl T. Anyways, they just said that Matt Leinart is probably the odd man out in Houston, I wonder if Pete is going to give him a chance? I personally wouldn’t be against it.

I thought PC said we were gonna get some DL help? Wright? What about 3-tech & 5-tech?

KLM008: Babs is a free agent.

Legree is for depth. Babs is a FA and Milloy is like 105-years old.

This kid looks like a perfect second and long/third down SS or nickel back. The guy has ridiculous instincts and a nose for the ball. Even considering the video only shows highlights, you can see that this kid is a) fast and b) knows and loves football.
Chancellor will never be great in coverage, and this kid is a little small to be a real run-stuffing SS, but both together could be great. I prefer SS that can cover anyway, and I think this kid has a shot at taking the SS spot from Milloy and passing Chancellor.
He will at least see time on third and long, as Milloy was hands down the worst SS in the NFL in coverage past 10 yards last year. And Chancellor is allready slow–he wont be getting any faster.
I like the pick.

Byron Maxwell CB, Clemson We seem to go in 2s & 3s repeting at a position. . .

Good pick. We need a ton of corners.

PC said they would LIKE to get at least one O-lineman and one D-lineman. Just like last year they really wanted to take a pass-rushing DE in the first three rounds, but the value wasnt there and so they didnt get one. PC was bummed, but they stuck to thier boards.
Perhaps they should have traded up for Miles Austin, but they went a different track, which I am fine with. I think they had enough holes that trading down for more picks was the right decision.
In another year or two, perhaps Seattle will have stockpiled enough talent where we can afford to trade up rather than down. But for now we’re not in Atlanta’s league.

Wow, another DB! These guys are all big enough to play FS. Never heard of this guy, I have to say. Legree is the only DB of the three I ever heard of.

Love it, total bad ass who loves to hit. Love it.

Maxwell looks like a SS the way he hits.

This kid is MEAN! Stands a back up, picks him up and body slams him, then gets another chance at a back and absolutely earholes him! He knows how to hit a guy and make him pay–legally. Thats a skill valuable as hell in the NFL.
It will be fun watching these guys compete if Goodell and his greedy pet owners allow a preseason this year.

STTBM, I saw that highlight….I think it was against South Florida. He just drilled that dude into the turf. Fantastic!

Yeah, both have mean streaks–especially Maxwell. Maxwell looks to project as a SS for sure. Sherman and the other guy could play corner/S.

I have to admit I really like this pick. Kid is a bit of a tweener . Could play nickel, and definitely looks solid to play up in the dime.
Much happier with this than Kris Durham…. AFAIAC… wasted pick for a WO. Better D-line options available at that point… Gus must be unconcious somewhere.

Kris Durham is a white Randy Moss.
