With their final pick, the Seahawks drafted USC linebacker Malcolm Smith. He’s listed at 6-0, 220. The first story we could come up with chronicles his rare eating disorder.

He’s the younger brother of Giants receiver Steve Smith. His workout numbers are impressive … 4.44 40, 39-inch vertical, 28 bench reps

SOME PHONE INTERVIEW NOTES: Feels knowing Carroll and staff helped him being taken by the Hawks. He feels he’s an explosive player who moves really well. He missed 2 1/2 games last year with a knee injury. He is sure Carroll understands his health condition more than any other NFL coach could. Says his brother has been an influence with his work-ethic.

My prediction: Curry’s lazy ass is a part of a deal in the works for Carson Palmer.

  2. I like fast and athletic LBs as late round fliers. Like Rufus Porter. Except he seems more like a poor mans Derrick Brooks. I like the pick.

  3. Dukeshire says:

Bobby – Great call, was thinking the same thing regarding Porter.

  4. ACIB, the Bengals might love that trade, but the Seahawks aren’t dumb enough to trade a young improving player like Curry for an old declining player like Palmer. If they want to trade for a QB they should go after Kolb.

  5. achalasia? Looks like he can cover.

  6. Dave – I can’t believe you posted that article about Smith vomiting at lunch. Eww.

Interesting side note – he’s the brother of Giants WR Steve Smith.

  7. I would make that trade if we didn’t resign Matt. I probably wouldn’t if Curry were paid like a 5th round draft pick, but taking his contract into consideration, I’d do it.

  8. bigsmooth says:

Great highlights. Love this pick. Looks like a stud special teamer and playmaker with that speed. Notice how he was always looking to strip the ball when tackling.

  9. AaronCurryIsBUST says:

Improving?! He was just as awful as he was his first year. Face it, this chump does not have the instincts nor intelligence to be a good player in the NFL. Getting rid of his astronomical contract (10 MILLION A YEAR FOR A LB!!!) would be outstanding, getting Palmer somehow would be icing on the cake.

  10. edstang45 says:

I’m feeling pretty good about this draft….feeling confident in PC and Schnieder… OL should be much improved, maybe running game will show up this year…Now get this CB crap done and lets get these guys together so the new OC can instill his system..and get Matt and Mebane locked in
Getting tired of these millionaires fightin over their money…hell if it wasn’t for us peons in the stands and in front of the TV’s they wouldn,t have squat!!!!!

  11. Palmer has looked done 2 years running, why would we want him? I don’t see the point there.

Not having Hasselbeck going into the season scares me, feels like the O could just fall apart – and we could be looking at 4-5 win season.

The other side of me realizes that that’s maybe what needs to happen, and by the end of next year, we either know that Whitehurst is starter material, or we use that higher #1 pick to take the best QB available. Bitter medicine, but may be the best way forward.

  12. I think we need to and should resign Matt. He deserves to have a year or years to play behind Okung/Gallery/Unger/Moffitt/Carpenter. He won’t know what to do with himself, actually having a decent group of blockers up front. When teams line up to stop our good running game, he’s going to eat them up with his experience and play-action fakes. I am excited!

I have no reason not to believe Pete when he said that resigning Matt was the #1 priority in the off-season. I am begining to trust him more and more. I was a fan before this weekend, but them hearing our cries about improving our offensive line really has me in his corner even more now.

Yeah, my theory becomes unnecessary if they already feel they know that CW isn’t the guy.

The fact that they didn’t pick up a QB anywhere in the draft leads me to think that they will try hard to re-sign Hass (or try for another veteran, which all in all, seems unlikely to me).

  14. Soggybuc says:

Either resigning Matt or going with CW its pretty clear a better run game is the focus with Carpenter/Moffitt. both will benefit from a strong game.

interesting thing is 3 DBs and 2 OLBs and only one DL. looks to me like they view the secondary as the glaring weakness that made the D line look worse than it is.

The OLB’s makes perfect sense in a D that is losing Herring and may have to move Hawthorn to the mike for a declining Lofa

  15. Jesus Christ ACIB. You truly are a one trick pony aren’t you. He isn’t going anywhere for at least a couple of years so why don’t you just quit your crying and hope for the best. Hey, did you realize trading a first rounder for Branch was a mistake????? What about drafting LJack???? Kelly Jennings??? There have been plenty of crap moves so why must you obsess about Curry. Did he steal your girlfriend??? Take your lunch money???

  16. AaronCurryIsBUST says:

Those moves are awful too, Ruskell ruined this team. But Curry isn’t getting criticized enough. We could have had ALL-PRO CLAY MATTHEWS!

  17. Lamar King, Koren Robinson, Jerramy Stevens, Chris McIntosh, Kelley Jennings, Deion Branch…

    ACIB?

We KNOW Curry blows (so far), but give it a rest. Consistently unleashing an unpleasant vibe does nothing for this blog.

If you want to Bitch, go stand outside the VMAC and protest.

    Otherwise, shut your pie hole.

  18. How many other teams passed on Clay Matthews?

    Puh-lease.

Maybe in a year from now, you can tell me who the Hawks should have drafted instead of who they did get.

    Tool.
