Senior Bowl, draft and the Super Bowl are just a few of the topics we can address this morning at 11 a.m.

  1. Did anybody watch the ProBowl?

  2. Heard on the radio this morning that Philadelphia will trade Kevin Kolb.

  3. I’ve heard that to, but that can’t move him until a CBA agreement is reached.

  4. Dukeshire says:

klm – Not me. Even when I was a kid I couldn’t bear to watch after Largent or Easley came out of the game.

  5. footballscaa says:

Good thing we don’t have to waste any time talking about any of the Seahawks players in the Pro Bowl.

  6. Can we talk trades with other teams and have things more or less agreed to in principle and then finalize the paperwork after the CBA is finished?

  7. Dukeshire says:

Audible – That’s a good question. It’s hard to imagine those conversations wouldn’t be taking place should there be a lockout, if at least off the record between GMs.

  8. Does that have to go on over cocktails in a back room somewhere, or can they ask for something a little more binding like a letter of intent?

Normally, draft strategy is affected by the FA market.

It looks like this year it’s going to be the other way around.

Is that necessarily a bad thing? I wouldn’t think so. Let’s say we draft Pouncey. Then maybe Sidney Rice moves up the list of priorities.

Perhaps, this would work in our favor because after the draft we’d have a better idea of what we still need. It’s hard to project which players will be available in the draft, and every year players fall, so there are a lot of surprises.

It might give us more flexibility to pick the BPA and then jump on FA as soon the CBA is completed with a better idea of what we need.

  9. Dukeshire says:

Yeah, I can’t imagine any “agreements” struck without a CBA in place are binding.

The longer a lockout goes on, the more likely we’ll see very little FA movement. At least the draft in nearly 2 months after the current CBA expires, so there would still be time to reach an agreement for teams to consider FA movement prior to.

  10. Dukeshire says:

Here’s a must read piece from Farnsworth on Cortez Kennedy. Here’s hoping Saturday is the day the selection committee finally get it right and put him in the Hall.

  11. GeorgiaHawk says:

The Probowl is a joke! The only way it will ever be anything else is if the players are payed handsomely!

  12. GeorgiaHawk says:

Eric, do you think that the new training facility on the lake has helped make the team a little soft? What is our overall record after we started training in the new cushy facility?

  13. Thanks Duke…It had me going for a second, enough to alarm my gf when I said, “what?!”

They covered the pro bowl too:,18994/?utm_source=morenews

  14. bird_spit says:

The lake front training facility didnt make the team “soft”. It was that TR was so focussed on the new facility, he forgot that he needed to improve the OL and DL.

  15. freedom_X says:

If shoddy facilities helped get teams to the Super Bowl, the Bengals would be guaranteed a berth there every year…

What Seattle should do is truly climate-control the indoor facility. Put in the HVAC needed so they can simulate 105°F temps OR 15°F, choosing at will. That would be state of the art.

(sealing the facility so they could simulate high-altitude is probably taking it too far though. :) )

  16. GeorgiaHawk says:

Perhaps I”m reaching a bit. Just trying to figure out why it seems like the Seahawks have never been consistently good or even close to average on the road.

  17. bird_spit says:

I used to commute regularly to Atlanta from Seattle. I’d fly in Sunday, and spend the next couple of days not sleeping correctly. I’d fly back out to Seattle and finally get some sleep.

Prior to that, I was living in Atlanta, and regularly flying to San Jose, CA. I can tell you, flying E-W is great, cause I’d go to bed early, wake up early and get crap done.

I dont think my experience is anything but normal. Flying east messes up the internal clock, if you dont do it often, then you dont get a system down.

That said, these games are played 1:00 PM local time. The players, and coaches get paid(!) to bring the A game, and have little excuse to not get it done on Sunday at game time.

  18. IdahoHawk says:

Great article on TEZ. Thanks Duke.
Living in southeastern Idaho your far from any football beyond high school. Only games on tv where Dallas and Denver. So growing up with a mother from Seattle and rooting for the hawks was kind of like rooting for a team that didn’t exist. Untill I was six years old in 96 or 97. My mother and father took us to the King Dome (aka the land of BOZ) December Monday night game vs. The RAIDERS. That’s when I became a true die hard fan of the hawks. Cortez Kennedy was one of the greats to whatch. I sure hope he gets what’s he has earned.

  19. Tez will get into the HOF; I just hope it happens sooner, rather than later.

Seattle’s HOF list will eventually read like this:

    1. Steve Largent

    2. Cortez Kennedy

    3. Walter Jones

    4. Earl Thomas

  20. I love Goodell. Sparks controversy amongst the Squaeler players over Roethlisburgher and the investigation last offseason into Bens actions and the bathroom bar incident. Said none of the players he questioned came to his defense.

Dallas should hand out ‘cheese heads’ at the gate. What a farce giving away ‘terrible towels’ at XL. No bias in that game. Man do I hate listening to the Yammerin’ Stealer fans. Kicked their butt and left empty handed. Those clowns are going on number seven. No justice. Go get em – Roger that!!! – Goodell.

  21. IdahoHawk says:

    I’m Lovin it E.T. HOF

  22. IdahoHawk says:

    Pro bowl sucked.
Steven Jackson running through (half ass tackle) Eric Berry was made the game for me.

  23. IdahoHawk says:

Do you think S.A. ever has a chance at HOF ballot? Great single game numbers but not career.

  24. If players like Harry Carson and Andre Tippett can make it in the past few years, I don’t see why Shaun couldn’t be in it either (asides from geography). However, I don’t think any of those three are “real” HOFers. I think they were fine players but Canton has really gotten watered down. Sad. The HOF is for guys like Walter Payton, Johnny Unites, Steve Largent, Kellen Windslow, John Hannah, Ronnie Lott, etc. You know, guys who were special. Not guys that were good, guys that were truly great.

  25. Dukeshire says:

What’s the old expression? It’s the Hall of Fame, not he Hall of Very Good. And no, SA will never get in. Beyond geography (which is a real obstacle, ask Tez…) I don’t think he was terribly respected among his peers and that carries a lot of weight. But there’s no question, he had some crazy statistical seasons for the ‘Hawks.

  26. “Winslow” lol

  27. Palerydr says:

“Goodell appears to thrive in the role of judge, jury and executioner. He comes across as very comfortable as the purveyor of justice. His predecessors in the commissioner’s office were never so iron-fisted when it came to player conduct. The public has backed his authority, in part because it has little sympathy for things like millionaire quarterbacks and drunken 20-year-old coeds in bodyguard-protected bathrooms of dive bars.”

I agree with this statement 100% I think that the players will definetly know that when they screw up that it’s gonna cost em some dough. I personally think this is a good thing not bad as the writer makes it out to be. If they don’t want this topic brought up then Peter King shouldn’t be asking these questions. Professional players like it or not live life in the public eye making anything they do, positive or negative, put into the spotlight.

As for the Pro Bowl put yourself in their position for most of the players they haven’t been in competition for 2-3 weeks and are already in preparation for off season mode. Nobody wants to get hurt in a game where the winners get $55,000 and the losers $25,000.

    Tez= HOF
    SA = fringe HOF.

  28. pabuwal says:

If Holmgren committed more to the run in XL instead of attempting to have Hasselbeck carry the team with 50 passes, Alexander would have a great shot at making the HoF. He had nearly 100 yards on just 20 carries. He should have had 30-35 carries and been the MVP of that game.

  29. Dukeshire says:

I don’t blame the players for half-hearted effort in the Pro Bowl. Hell, most don’t even want to be playing in that atrocity. It’s a pain vacation to Hawaii with the family. But, I sure don’t have to watch it, either.

As for Sheriff Goodell, I look forward to reading the Peter King article (that’s not something you’ll hear me say often). He realizes (as do the owners) arrests are bad for business. It’s pure economics. Of course he can get carried away, like with his request that teams (the Jets) not flap their gums as much. And his “player safety” mantra does seem a bit curious as he’s stated his desire to “expand the game” (aka 18 game schedule). Unless King totally butchers it, ought to be an interesting read.

  30. Dukeshire says:

There is no was Holmgren is responsible for SA not being universally considered a HOFer.

  31. Palerydr says:

1 game does not a HOF make here is a link to current HOF you’ll have to find another link to compare SA but the gist is sort by rushing yds(9453) and then compare SA’s CAREER numbers you’ll find that he is lacking compared to the other guys who played 16 games a year other than his TD numbers(116 total) which are HOF worthy.

  32. The dropped passes in Super Bowl XL were a cruel joke to all of us.

However, how crazy would fate (I hated that bastard on that day) have been if Pittsburgh wouldn’t have been off-sides and not prompted Locklear to hold (or the ref wouldn’t have thrown that hanky)? Stevens makes a great catch and Shaun pounds it in from a yard away and we take the lead.

There are some plays that I think of a lot and that is one of them.

One that really gets me is the Rapistburger to Ward throw on 3rd and long in the 1st half where Boulware was a step late. That play developed right towards me and I saw it coming in slow motion. That’s probably the play that I think of the most that haunts me. From there, the Rapist “crossed” the goal line to take the lead.

  33. Palerydr says:

SA rushed for 9453 career yds sorry it looks goofy above

  34. Derrick Fenner was a TD machine in one year.

  35. Palerydr says:

The only thing I hang onto from that game is my complete hatred of the Pittsburgh Stealers. Go Pack! cripple that ace hat Rapistburger!

  36. Palerydr says:

Yea but he didn’t score 116 TD’s for his career what’s your point there Bobby?

  37. pabuwal says:

I still have nightmares of Marquand Manuel leaving that game.

  38. Dukeshire says:

Yes, Ben’s faux TD still makes me nauseous.

  39. Personally, I like Goodell with respect to holding players accountable. I like that he’s the judge and jury. This is simply my opinion, but I wish he was harder on some players.

It really made me mad that Rapistburger had his suspension dropped by a few games. I would have suspended him for half of the year. If you get into trouble and make the league look bad — you SHOULD be suspended/fined. A majority of people like this. Tate should have gotten suspended for a game for his little incident. Brock should have been suspended for at least a game for the DUI. I’m not just hating on the Rapist b/c I hate him, I like the idea of suspending/fining idiots who make poor decisions. Sure, you can say it hurts the team, but to me, that player is part of the team and knows he runs the risk of hurting that team if he does something ‘stoopid.’ I have no problem with a guy getting 4 games for a DUI. Don’t do it, you know the law/rules or, if you’re the Rapist, don’t put yourself in ‘stoopid’ situations.

One area I have a big problem with GODell is this new CBA. He’s obviously representing the owners, but the thing that ticks me off as a fan is that I wish he’d take the role of arbitator in this process and look at things from both sides. Do what’s best for the game. Don’t play 18 games. Don’t say you care about the players, their bodies/injuries, etc. if you want to damage them and water the product down even more with two regular season games.

Sure, I don’t think fans should have to pay for two pre-season games. Maybe pre-season games should be half-price? I know the owners don’t want to go for this b/c it’s less revenue, but if we are looking out for the best interests of the game itself, they should charge half-price for those pre-season games.

I understand not wanting to drop down to two total pre-season games (1 at home, 1 on the road) b/c then it makes it harder to justify NFL stadiums since they will be used one less time per year and they already aren’t used that often.

Sadly, people don’t care about what’s best for the game.

  40. Palerydr – I had no point. Seeing all those TDs made me think of Fenner. That’s all. Just some random junk.

  41. Palerydr says:

Ok I also hate the way people lionize Rapistburger saying even though he didn’t have a good game he still led his team to victory. BS! His team got favorable calls and a big trick play against a 4th string FS. I was even more pissed when that ref came to own this year and admitted making his mistakes thanks for nothing 5 years after the fact duochebag.

  42. Palerydr says:

OK Bobby I do believe SA is a candidate for the HOF but his overall numbers and length of career IMO will make it tough for him to get in.

  43. You know it’s a farce when the head referee of that game later admits one team got screwed.

I know we dropped too many passes and should have overcome our own mistakes, but NOBODY can ever tell me the average team in the average game should have to overcome as much crap as we had to with all of those calls going against us on that day. Nobody.

  44. I’m getting re-mad and riled up just thinking about it!

  45. Palerydr says:

LMAO! me as well! It’s noon somewhere how about a drink or 4? LOL
