The San Francisco 49ers are expected to announce that Jim Harbaugh is the team’s new head coach, replacing the departed Mike Singletary. Harbaugh reportedly agreed to a five-year, $25 million deal.
Harbaugh had unprecedented success at Stanford, and the news of his departure comes on the heels of projected No. 1 draft pick quarterback Andrew Luck choosing to stay in college at Stanford.
Harbaugh was speculated to have talked to Miami and considered returning to Stanford before finally agreeing to take the Niners’ job.
Carroll had an interesting take on Harbaugh potentially moving to the NFL when asked during his presser earlier this week.
“I don’t mind saying this — I think he’s a fantastic football coach,” Carroll said. “I watched him come in and take over a program and get it going, and knew when he was down in San Diego as well.
“And I didn’t know the factor that he was. I thought he did a fantastic job. And wherever he winds up going, they’re getting a terrific coach. He brings attitude, personality and toughness — all of the right stuff. Probably the farther away the better. He’s really good.”
Also, New Orleans will be without a couple key players on Saturday. Safety Malcolm Jenkins, tight end Jimmy Graham, defensive end Anthony Hargrove and linebacker Danny Clark.
