The Seattle Seahawks placed tight end Anthony McCoy on the season-ending injured reserve with a knee issue. McCoy, a sixth round draft pick by Seattle in this year’s draft, had saw action in two games this season.

But Seattle had depth at tight end, carrying four on the active roster, including John Carlson, Chris Baker, Cameron Morrah and McCoy.

With a vacant spot on the active roster, the Seahawks claimed defensive end Clifton Geathers off waivers. At 6-foot-7, 300 pounds, Geathers was a sixth round draft choice by Cleveland this year. He was waived by the Browns during final roster cut downs in September, and claimed by Miami soon after, eventually winding up on the Dolphins practice squad.

Miami signed Geathers to the team’s active roster in Week 7, and he was active for one game. The Dolphins released the South Carolina product on Wednesday. He’ll likely serve as depth for Seattle at strong-side defensive end behind Kentwan Balmer.

McCoy is the ninth player put on Seattle’s injured reserve list.

Eric, Along these lines, where do you envision Gordon playing? Was he brought back to play LDE too or NT and take snaps from Siavii?

Something needed to be done at strong side end. Balmer is not getting it done.

  2. variable575 says:

…..That’s a fact. Balmer might as well watch from the sideline when they call his number. At least that would draw the offense and the D could key up on it. (sarcasm).

Geathers looks good physically. Hope he has what it takes mentally to fit into this system and have an immediate impact.

  3. Dukeshire: Gordon was brought in to play nose tackle inside, along with Siavii and Mebane. So that’s where I expect him to be used. Mebane has been playing some nose in passing situations.

  4. Dukeshire says:

Amon Gordon. He was here (DT) in camp for a couple weeks in late August. He was with Tenn through early November but now he’s back. After the tackling clinic the ‘Hawks displayed against the Saints, it’s not surprising they’re looking at d linemen. Siavii and Balmer have been put on notice, as I see it.

  5. GriffinNW says:

Dude looks huge in those videos. Would be great to see him make an impact and earn a spot on this team, but not gonna hold my breath. Hawks need to step it up this weekend, and hope BMW is a go!

    GO SEAHAWKS!!

I actually thought Gordon looked pretty good when he was here. Stout and hustled well.
