The Seattle Seahawks formally announce Pat Ruel has been hired as the offensive line coach, replacing Alex Gibbs.

The Seattle Seahawks have named Pat Ruel, who was Head Coach Pete Carroll’s offensive line coach the past five seasons at the University of Southern California, to fill the same position with the Seahawks, the club announced today.

Ruel, 59, has NFL experience. He was a guard for the Miami Dolphins (1971-72) and coached the offensive line with the Detroit Lions (2000), Green Bay Packers (2001-02), Buffalo Bills (2003) and New York Giants (2004). He also coached at Washington State (1978-81), spending two seasons as the offensive line coach before adding the duties of offensive coordinator his final two years.

He was not retained by Lane Kiffin at USC, and was preparing to coach for the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL in 2010.

Ruel, whose given first name is Golden, played at Coral Gables High School and the University of Miami. He and his wife, Marti, have a daughter, Sabra.

There is a new Wardaddy in town indeed, i like him already.

  3. nighthawk2 says:

Well he’s very energetic. Hopefully we won’t have to worry about this OL coach “burning out” and quitting on us.

  4. Soggybuc says:

Nighthawk, WarDaddies dont burn out. they fight till the last ounce of cartilage has been pounded out of thier bodies!!!!

    RADEoN,

Let’s see. USC had 9 winning seasons under Carrol and a couple of National Championships as well as several Heisman winners.

OK, maybe they were a higher paid team than Seattle but if Carrol can bring that winning atmosphere to the Seahawks I’ll gladly call them the US-Seahawks.

  6. I’m glad they kept James Wyche on practice squad. I like Chris Clemons as starter at Leo, but I’m not convinced yet that Dexter Davis is ready to be his backup. Wyche is a DE with good height and some experience under his belt.

  7. Dukeshire says:

Wardaddies? Meh… Not sure what to make of that. Can’t tell if it’s really tough or something my high school coach would have said. In either case, I’ll like him just fine if he gets results and can find a way to get along with Bates.

  8. Mr_Fish says:

He certainly has a busy week ahead of him, getting the new guys integrated into the system. Let’s hope they’re all fast learners.

The Hogs………Hope wardaddys get on nfl films as the dominate OL….it could happen right

  10. But are they ill tempered?
