According to a Fox 6 Sports in Milwaukee, the Minnesota Vikings have released Javon Walker and signed T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

UPDATE: Judd Zulgad, a Vikings beat reporter who covers the team for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, reports that according to an NFL source, nothing has happened between the Vikings and Houshmandzadeh at this point. And that no deal is done.

Zulgad reported on Friday that Minnesota was not entertaining trade offers for Houshmandzadeh.

The Vikings were were one of three teams in the running for Houshmandzadeh’s services last season, but the 32-year-old receiver ultimately chose Seattle.

Minnesota is taking one last shot at a Super Bowl with Brett Favre at the helm, so it makes sense to add another weapon to his arsenal, particularly with Sidney Rice out with a hip injury and the issues with migraine headaches for Percy Harvin.

Wow, I thought that was dead. I can’t wait to see him berate Favre for not throwing him the ball. Good luck with that. Of course, wining more games should keep him fairly quiet.

  2. pabuwal says:

The irony here is that Seattle will pay most of his salary to enable this move for the Vikings.

  3. Minnesota? Ha…I love it. So how do you think he’ll like being 5th option when Rice returns (AP, Harvin, Shiancoe). His body language was/is terrible. He’s a has been. I’m stoked about M. Williams getting a shot. 30 tds in 2 years w/PC @ USC. He’s motivated and fit! Plus our other guys need the reps. If Branch gets hurt like he seemingly does every year, we might be a little light, but I like the sound of MW/Butler/Tate/Carlson as your starters.

    Hopefully JJ is next!

  4. freedom_X says:

I thought teams had to wait 24 hours before they could sign players who were cut? If they claimed him, then they would have to pay the full salary wouldn’t they?

That $7 mil salary is why Houshmanzadeh couldn’t be traded. Most of the other owners aren’t as loaded as Paul Allen.

Why didn’t Ruskell try to pick up his big offseason signing in Chicago? Maybe he lobbed for it but the Chicago front office slapped him to his senses. If you recall, there were a lot of rumors about Seattle/Ruskell wanting to sign Michael Clayton (Tampa version) to a big F/A contract last year. For some reason Tampa re-signed this career underacheiver, but they just cut him too. If Ruskell had actually signed Clayton, that would have been $12 mil+ just thrown away for the season.

  5. ATL released CB Chevis Jackson – wish he could replace Jennings.

  6. Freedom_X: Housh is an unrestricted agent, so no waivers are involved. He can go where he wants.

  7. SteelBlueLime says:

Eric – is that the same for Leinart?

  8. We should not worry about the money. Mr Allen has plenty. There was no trade cause TJ sucks. Same reason there is no trade for JJ .He also sucks.

  9. Dukeshire says:

Leinart has only 4 seasons accrued. He needs 6 in an uncapped season to become an UFA. (I believe this is correct.) I think he needs to clear waivers.

  10. SteelBlueLime: That’s correct. Leinart also is an unrestricted free agent and can chose his team. Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic has the details here.

  11. Dukeshire says:

Eric, does being cut circumvent the years necessary? Is it the date that it happened?

  12. eric what team did Leinart choose.

  13. Soggybuc says:

I for one am looking forward to seeing the Vikes and the Jets implode this year. it’s going to happen and mark my words

  14. snydro22 says:

    Dude. WTF.

    Alex Gibbs resigned.

  15. Dukeshire says:

    What the hell? Health issues?

  16. snydro22 says:

    Unhappy with management?

Doesn’t matter. No matter what the reason, it is the absolute worst thing that could happen to us as an organization one week before the season starts.

  17. Great new zone blocking scam is set back again. Problems with personnel choices I guess.

  18. pabuwal says:

I would guess he resigned because he knew how bad the team’s OL and Running game is and didn’t want this mess to sully his record.

  19. snydro22 says:

    Hmm..

News that we are releasing Ben Hamilton and trading for Stacy Andrews comes out simultaneously with the announcement that Gibbs has quit.

    Coincidence? Not likely.
