Just saw the item on Leroy Hill and the reported restructuring of his contract to stay with the Hawks. This one is from Mike Sando on ESPN.com. I’m sure Eric will check in with greater detail and specifics later. But this for right now: When linebackers learn the game, one of the first things they’re taught is “leverage.” You play the game inside-out, you force your opponent in the direction you want him to go to reduce his options. In a business sense, Hill did not learn this lesson. His off-field issues, his missing of camp and OTAs, etc., all contributed to his diminished importance to the Seahawks. He surrendered his leverage. At a lower price, he has a better chance to stick with the team, and perhaps regain his status and value. In the meantime, the Seahawks are not on the hook paying huge money for an overvalued, under-producing linebacker who will have to sit out a league-mandated suspension for misbehavior.

  1. Hill misses Ruskell.

  2. Why would Hill agree to this?

I hope it shows he’s humble and willing to work his way back in. But that would be pretty rare for a modern businessman/athlete.

As good as the LB corps in Seattle is, Hill probably has the greatest ability to make game changing plays. Hope he gets his head right and earns back his 30 Mil.

HA! I’d say give him 5 million, tell him to shutup and play the game!

  4. longco44 says:

Okay, so I was waaaay off.. He was set to earn 6 million and they are chopping it down to a little over 2 million.. Nevermind about my earlier comment then! Guess he’ll have to learn his lesson a harder way!! Must be tough for these guys to make a living off of 2 million bucks!! haha

  5. Makes him trade friendly as well. Part of a VJax deal?

Nobody is going to let VJax sit out a season,,,,NOBODY!

I would rather see Seatlle keep Hill and trade Curry. People around the league will say the hawks are giving up on Curry to soon but that is exactly why he still has some trade value. Trade the bust now before it is too late. Seattle has some depth at linebacker. Good luck to Hill, I hope he makes it back to starting lineup.

  7. Does this make sense in an uncapped year? I he plays well then he’ll be a free agent next year and we’ll most likely lose him. If he plays poorly, we could just release him next year anyway. I guess they don’t think he’s going to do that well.
