A few links to start your morning.

Doug Farrar of Yahoo Sports’ The Shutdown Corner details why running back Justin Forsett should have an even better season under Alex Gibb’s version of the zone blocking scheme.

Steve Wyche of the NFL Network offers some restrained optimism for the Seahawks this season.

Russell Okung had this to say about offensive line coach Alex Gibbs when asked if the zone blocking guru had a few words for him when he arrived on the practice field.

“Oh, yeah, he had a lot of words for me,” joked Okung. “But that’s just him. And I’m going to take the coaching, and I’m going to get better every day.”

Official Bill Leavy comes clean on 2006 Super Bowl miscues.

More Farrar: He wonders why it took so long for Leavy to admit his mistakes.

Clare Farnsworth of Seahawks.com reports that quarterback Charlie Whitehurst led the quarterbacks to a win in the home run derby after practice on Friday.

Cornerback Kelly Jennings talks to KJR’s Ian Furness in this audio link.

Matt Bowen of the National Football Post discusses what NFL teams look for in preseason games.

  1. On the Hawks & Optimism… IMOHO….

The coaching is yet to be proven, but I just can’t see it being too much worse than last year…. Playerwise, I see Okung, Thomas and Tate as an upgrade in each of their positions…. add a healthy Matt, Lofa, Trufant, and Branch, better use of Housh, Carlson and Forsett and one is talking a big change for a
team…. That’s TEN pluses! Hard not to like that direction……

Farrar hit the nail on the head. I’m looking for a lot from the running game this year with Forestt leading the way. He had a good bit of success last year, and we know what he had to work with. I see over 1,000 yards for him this year. With Jones and Washington coming in to change the tempo, the three-headed monster will put up 2,500-2,800 rushing yeards this year. And it’s not just because of the better blocking up front, but the better use of the TE and the deep threat of Tate/Butler in the passing game will open up defenses more too.

  3. devisscher says:

It indeed can’t be worse than last year, but that doesn’t mean it will be better. I’m not really comfortable. Our defense sucked last year, and when reading our offense is making plays, I can’t help thinking it’s because that defense sucks. I love the addition of Earl Thomas and the fact that Milloy is now starting but still, same coordinator, same schemes.

  4. nighthawk2 says:

Forsett should be the starter right now, and Jones should have a couple of handles taped on him so he can be a tackling dummy and finally do something productive.

  5. SeanCarney says:

devisscher Jim Mora was is a defensive minded coach, that was his defense.
