Happy Fourth everyone. Hopefully you get a chance to go somewhere and enjoy the weather today. Here’s a couple Seahawks-related links to check out this morning.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com reports that according to a league source Seahawks running back Quinton Ganther’s blood-alcohol concentration was measured close to the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. The Seahawks are thin at running back and could certainly use Ganther heading into training camp. And they have already dealt with players in similar situations like Lofa Tatupu and Owen Schmitt.
However, the Seahawks have had their share offseason issues, with Leroy Hill currently moving through the legal system and Golden Tate’s donut caper. They also took on safety Kevin Ellison, who was arrested in San Diego for having 100 Vicodin pills in his car.
ESPN’s John Clayton talks to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune about the possibility of wide receiver Vincent Jackson winding up in Seattle in this audio link. Acee also talks about safety Kevin Ellison.
Albert Breer of the Boston Globe talks with new Seahawks front office executive Scot McCloughan in this piece. The former San Francisco 49ers general manager says he had lost the balance between work and family and stepped away from the San Francisco job to focus on his home life.
McCloughan will work from his Bay Area home as a national college scout and hit the road to evaluate prospects this fall
Alex Marvez of Fox Sports talks to Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The 34-year-old quarterback tells Marvez he’s not ready to be put out to pasture yet.
Dan Arkush of Pro Football Weekly confirms what we’ve already reported during OTAs – cornerback Marcus Trufant looks healthy and is expect to rebound from a disappointing 2009 campaign.
ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports that rookie signings are happening at a record pace for a second straight season. He notes that front-office executives are putting more of a emphasis on getting later-round signings done earlier so they can focus on the more contentious negotiations for first-round picks.
First round picks Russell Okung and Earl Thomas and second round pick Golden Tate are Seattle’s only draft picks who remained unsigned.
YES! Our fourth-string RB is almost not a criminal.
I’ve been bated at full breath all day….

Here’s a tip, if you ever hear the name “Ganther” during next season, turn off ESPN because the Giants’ kick returner is none of your concern.

The Seahawks might be wise and give up next years 4TH or 5TH pick and draft BYU RB Harvey Unga 5′ 11″ 240 LBS. in next weeks supplemental draft.

There have been as many as 20 teams that are reportedly going to attend his pro day on Thursday. Hopefully the Seahawks are one of them.

Some good news here in these articles.
The Worst things that happened in 2009:
1. Overwhelming spate of injuries continued to decimate the OL.
2. Hasselbeck injured and never fully recovered his passing or confidence.
3. Greg Knapp’s new offense lacked coordination.
4. Tatupu missing 11 games
5. Poor FS play weakened the secondary
6. Trufant missed 6 games and was still rehabbing during the 10 he played.
7. Kerney got old, pass rush was ineffective.
Lots of good news in these articles right here. Check these off the list: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, and #6.
The Fox Hasselbeck article addresses #2 and #3. “Matt Hasselbeck in the best shape of his career? spraying the ball around in a well-coordinated offense behind an Alex Gibbs offensive line”? Any team you could describe like that becomes a dangerous team.

While I LOVE Matty, I seem to recall last preseason with all the talk about how great he was feeling and how 2009 was going to be a bounce back year.
And I have to admit, right up until that hit in the back from Willis (perfectly legal so I’m not going there, but a bad hit nontheless), Matty looked like he was indeed going to have a bounce back year.
I’m going to be cautiously optimistic that the new line will hold together and we won’t have a situation where Hasselbeck lays out right at the goal line and gives the LB a clean shot at his backside. Maybe 2010 will be the bounce back year? (crossing fingers and sacrificeing a cooked chicken to the football gods).

I think I saw tumbleweeds bounding across the blog yesterday. Camp will be starting soon, though. Thank god.

Isn’t there some kinda rule about clobberin a guy who’s in a defensless position – thought there used to be?

Branch got $4.94M base salary in ’09, and counted $7.57M against the cap.
Deion was targetted 75 times. 6 of those passes were intercepted, he dropped 4 passes, and caught 45. That’s about $110K/reception (base salary) $168K/recept (cap) for ’09. This season he makes $5.47M base salary and counts $8.07M against the “cap”. He’d better stay healthy.

This story has been incomplete as a result of lame reporting since last weekend.
What actually happened according to the police report, and w.t.f. was the B.T.A. reading that was close to 80 ? If it wasn’t above 80 Ganther needs an apology and the police are over the top in Sacremento. If it was within 10 mgs of 80 then it’s within the margin of error of the machine and he has a defence. Tell us the story and report the facts instead of parroting PFT, the NFL’s scandal page.

jammer – One can be arrested for DUI even if their B.A.L. is below the legal limit, if their driving is impaired. At this point, his B.A.L. hasn’t been released, so there isn’t much to report regarding that. This isn’t the crime of the century, calm down. It will all come out soon enough.
