Tight end Anthony McCoy, who the Seahawks drafted in the sixth round out of USC, was signed to a multi-year deal, the team announced today.
McCoy is the first of Seattle’s nine draft picks to sign with the club. Expect to see a few lower picks sign soon with training camp nearing. Not much has been uttered about contract negotiations with top picks Russell Okung and Earl Thomas.
With John Carlson obviously the starter, what is fair to expect from McCoy this season? How much can he contribute, if at all?
Looks like he’s going to have a little extra weed money this month.

One down. Always good news. Looks like a 4 year $1.895 mil, $105,000 signing bonus.
In the 2 TE sets that Bates likes, it will come down to he or Baker for time. I imagine in those sets, Carlson will get plenty of time split out to the slot, so for the time being, how he adapts to Gibbs’ ZBS will determine if he’ll get time at TE or relegated to special teams.

Good news for the Seahawks, bad news for Cameron Morrah. Unfortunately Cameron is not a good scheme fit and will be gone by the end of training camp. McCoy may get some playing time if someone gets hurt or if Carlson or Baker get tired. I would be surprised if McCoy was on the field for more than 50 snaps next year.

A.McCoy: PC’s only SC draft selection, had graded out as a 3rd-rounder before his pre-combine joint. 6th rd was a steal for an athletic TE, who’s s’posed to be able to stretch the field. Maybe not all that bright, but a very good target who’s willing to cross the middle of the field and haul in passes in heavy traffic. Not explosive off the line nor out of his breaks to get separation, that’s what PC needs to get him do now. PC’ll also maybe have to keep him in a structured environment so he doesn’t end up like Ricky Williams(?)

Duke, I know that’s what Mr Divish posted, it just seems a little out of usual order, and I didn’t see where Ryan wrote anything about why McCoy was signed before the 7th rounders.

McCoy is also supposed to be a good pass-pro blocker, but wasn’t known for pushing guys outta the way (clearing a hole) on running plays at SC.

Yes, he was scouted as a good blocker. But that is also why Baker is here. It’s just my opinion, that his immediate value to this offense will be his ability to adapt to the ZBS. I think his ability as a receiver is a given (hands and route running, if a bit lumbering) and in a two TE set, for the #2 that is of lesser importance of the two skills (when the #1 is Carlson). I guess what I’m saying is that I don’t see him being a significant target with Carlson in there, as a rookie.

6-5 260. Bio states he has a willingness to “get dirty in the trenches” with defensive lineman combating them at the line of scrimmage. Now that sounds intriguing A “Dirt Bag” Mora clamored for (only meant in a good way). Line him up along side Okung having RG Unger pulling and let ‘em bull doze. Some Regurgitation!
