Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network shed some more light on the Seattle Seahawks waiving running back LenDale White this afternoon. According to the report, White is facing a four-game drug suspension. LaCanfora said that the team did know that White had a suspension pending when they made the trade.

However, further pushing the Seahawks to make a move with White is that he had problems making meetings on time, appeared to have a sense of entitlement and was not coachable. According to the report, White didn’t appear committed to the team’s new philosophy preached by new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider.

So there you have it. The Seahawks appeared unwilling to deal with the baggage White brought with him from Tennessee, and if anybody should know if White would change his ways, it would be Carroll.

  1. Dukeshire says:

In addition, releasing him as the team is taking a 10 day break also may be timed, in part, to give the men something to think about regarding how the spend their time off.

  2. bird_spit says:

I am curious if this is the message that Hill will be getting once the league takes action.

  3. oceanic says:

I’m wondering if both Hill and Branch make it to training camp.

  4. chuck_easton says:

I’d say the betting line on HIll is about 70% he won’t.

Branch I’d say is about 60% sure to be at camp, just based on what’s been said.

  5. What… the hell. Why waive him? He still would have given us depth. Doesn’t make sense.

  6. ruminator1 says:

interesting thought duke. for sure this staff seems to give out the message that they are serious and every player better be too. an interesting item from cbs sports, rating the top underrated and top overrated player from each team.
    Seattle Seahawks

Overrated: CB Marcus Trufant. He battled through injuries last season, but his play isn’t close to the level expected. He isn’t a top-tier corner right now.

Underrated: DT Brandon Mebane. He was the choice last year and he stays here. He is a disruptive player.

i agree on the assessment of trufant

  7. chuck_easton says:

    Ocho,

It makes sense if you have a guy walking around acting like he’s above it all. They are trying to build a team here. If White really was late for meetings, wasn’t listening to the coaches, and had issues with the other players you can’t keep him around.

  8. chuck_easton says:

Too bad. I was all ready to be a BIG White supporter. I love Jforce, but I don’t see him as an everydown back. I CAN’T go back to JJ. Fool me once…

I hope to heaven that Washington comes back true to form. Also, does this mean we are looking for another RB on the open market?

  9. Audible says:

What a dumbass…hate players like that. Good riddens you low-life piece of trash.

  10. Duke, you said you were skeptical about White when we traded for him. You were right.

This is a big kick in the rump for the rest of the team. Carroll means business.

  11. Well if the reason really was that he was being a douche, then of course I agree with the decision.

  12. Dukeshire says:

If it’s true that Seattle knew about the possibility of this suspension prior to the trade, then it really does come down to his attitude, and that is a shame. Not surprising but unfortunate. Effort takes zero talent. The more I consider this move, the more I like it. Stevo is 100% right, this is a major kick in the rump. Carroll / Schneider stand behind their words with action and I applaud it. Fellas, be ready for a competitive team this fall, win, lose or draw.

  13. oceanic says:

Considering how disruptive Brandon Marshall was in Denver, why did Carroll send a sea plane for him? If Seattle had signed Marshall, he would not have been so easy to cut.

I didn’t like a lot of the moves Carroll made at first but I like this move. It says no player is above the team.

The Bears have signed all of this years draft picks already.

  14. It’s easy to sign your picks when you don’t have them in the first few rounds.

  15. “This is a big kick in the rump for the rest of the team. Carroll means business”

I think that’s exactly right. Even more so since White was an ex-USC guy – shows that nobody is above the team. It’s a Jimmy Johnson kind of move. Attitude matters, esp on a team that’s going to have to rely on that more than overpowering talent. I get it.

  16. nidhighe says:

It’s a shame. We could have used White, and he could have got his career back on track. Apparently, White just doesn’t get it, and I’m glad Schneider and Carroll aren’t going to tolerate players like that.

  17. Dukeshire says:

Lost in the shuffle was Matthew (how many times does Eisen call him that in this interview?) on NFL Network today.

  18. raymaines says:

I wonder how long Reggie Williams will last?

  19. Reggie who? Do you mean Mike Williams?

j/k – I only say that because I keep hearing about Mike and have heard zero about Reggie.

  20. I know you all think I’m nuts, but I’d like to see Forsett given a shot at being the starter with at least an acceptable o line.

  21. I knew we should have drafted or at least signed LeGarrette Blount. Now The titans have him and we have (had) Lendale. I believe Lendale is a damn good running back but if he is not a disciplined team guy then he is a liablility and PC made the right move.

  22. IdahoHawk says:

As you can tell i’m from idaho\Hawk fan. I don’t comment to much, but I like what i’m seeing with this staff. GO IN CLEAN HOUSE TRADE DUDS RETAIRE PLAYERS. I’m sick and tired of loosing. Let’s dont play stupid let Forsett cary the ball. Let Curry play crazzy(Put guys in that want to play HAWTHORNE/REED/BUTLER(WONT CHICKEN OUT ON A BALL). Get somebody in there that can keep players healthy and in shape (Videos last year on seahawks.com show Tatupu playing Xbox. what the hell is up with that). I’m not that old but if you have time off and your at a training center get your ass in the weight room DO SOMETHING OTHER THAN SITTING ON YOUR ASS PRACTICING FOR A TORN PEC. MUSCLE. Ever since Holmy lost Gen. Manager job, its gone down hill (I Know they went to the S.B. that year. AKA Timmy luck.)
Sorry that i spell a third grade level. Duke&Bobby K If there is 80 post i’ll scrol threw just to read what you guys have to say(Great football heads).
    Thanks, Eric
    Keep up the good work.

  23. I too was hoping we’d take a flyer on Blount. It’s too bad it worked out this way.

  24. Well, this means that Pete Carroll don’t care if the players are ex-UCS products, which I know some feared, it’s all about the team, how the players do and act, I’m all behind this way of thinking! This probably also mean that Mike Williams is playing as good as he seems to be, so I’m pretty excited about this move in more ways than one.

  25. EyeAmBaldman says:

Disappointing, yes, but understood. You could see a lot of White’s attitude in the interviews he was giving. It’s too bad cuz the guy could have been a beast in this system if he wasn’t such a moron. I like that PC isn’t playing favorites. This should be a message for guys like Housh as well. This is about the team not the individual.

I think this year is going to be really interesting.
