In my dreams we trade Julius Jones away and receive a 5th round pick, but that will probably remain a dream. White is my best bet, but I don’t think there will be a “starter” all three backs could see the same amount of action, more or less, but White will probably carry the main load, which I don’t mind.

We’ve heard White is in the best shape he has been since college and he has something to prove, so I have to give him the nod as the starting back. Washington and Forsett will also get carries leaving Jones the odd man out. Bye bye Jones…

I saw the Redskins released WR Marko Mitchell today. He has great size, hands, and speed, and he was the best WR of their pre-season. He never really got a shot in the regular season and then the new regime came in and there was no room for him. We have a lot of bodies at WR right now sure, but not a whole lot of talent. I would love for Pete and Schneider to bring him and and take a look at him.

I voted for White because I think he will be the starter but I’m hoping that Forsett makes his mark this year. I wonder how he did against PCs Trojans.

The team has 104 bodies already. They have to whittle that down to 80 before the start of training camp.
Bringing in more bodies seems counterproductive unless PC and Schneider think that person is better than what’s already here. That being said I would fully expect this staff to take a look.
This time of year is when we will all get the “so-and-so is available, why don’t we sign him? ” (Hamlin, Adalius Thomas, now Mitchell). Can’t kick the tires on everyone. That is unless that person is head and shoulders above what’s already here.

I have to think Washington is going to be PC’s NFL Reggie Bush, and White would remian in the same role that he played at USC. Meaning they both should produce massive numbers. I hope.

I would disagree that there’s “not a whole lot of talent” at receiver. Some underachievers and injuries perhaps, but not a lack of talent. My first reaction is that bringing him aboard would be a bit redundant; tall receiver, can get behind but not separate from corners and zero special teams contributions.

Stephania Bell is described as ESPNs injury expert. She says Washington should return 100% from his leg bust. She also said that the progress he has made so far ‘bodes well’ for his rehab.
The same article (at the PI site) quoted Gus Bradley as saying that Curry will not be the elephant, at least for now.
I agree with Duke about the receivers. That is one position I’m not worried about. If Thurmond can make it all the way back then the only areas that concern me are O line and D line pass rush.

oceanic, thanks for the news on Leon Washington. Any good news on his leg is helpful IF he gets 100% healthy, I don’t think anyone on this team can stop him from being the #1 RB, both as runner and receiver. White and Forsett can both play roles behind Leon.
My main concerns about Leon are his ego and his agent, which I think is why NYJ wanted him out of there.

If Washington comes back 100% and plays like he did, then Forsett becomes Mo Morris. I voted for LenDale, because he just seems like he’s got his s**t together, is in great shape, is really hungry to start, and is a way better back then Julius Jones. You can also take him on the road and he will play just as hard as he does at home, unlike Jones. If both Jones and Branch are gone I won’t be complaining, if they can take Jennings with them I will do back flips.

Jennings isn’t that bad. If he were a fourth round pick, we’d all be talking about what a good, solid player (with limitations) he is. Personally, I like him fine. I think he sucks if he is playing with broken ribs like he did for a lot of ’08, but I don’t know of too many players who still perform at their same level with rib injuries either.

And keep in mind that everything depends on the recovery of Thurmond. Until Thurmond is healthy Jennings is, at best, the #3 CB. If Thurmond comes back full strength he likely will push Wilson to #3 and Jennings to #4.
As a #4 CB Jennings is quite good.

Chuck, since you put it that way, our secondary is pretty deep. Maybe we won’t get so frustrated on third-and-long this year. Yeah, it looks like things are gonna be better quickly.

I think saying that a healthy Thurmond pushes Wilson to #3 is a gross overstatement. He missed virtually all of last season. He has a long way to go regarding his coverage and ball skills before he pushes Wilson anywhere. Once he’s healthy he has to worry about beating out Jennings for #3. In nickel packages, when Wilson slides in to cover the slot, that’s where he is far more likely to fight Jennings for time, if then. Bobby’s right on, Jennings is fine in coverage, it’s his ball skills that are lacking and improved safety play should mask much of that. I truly expect little out of Thurmond in ’10 but I like him with an eye to ’11 and beyond.

I was also thinking more long term. I fully expect Thurmond to push for a starting job but in the 2011 time frame. Not really this year.

Forsett is a fan favorite. He has no worries about making the team. He’ll be an imortant part of the 3 headed monster at RB.
But I just have a hunch that given the size difference between White and Forsett, White will be given the ‘starter’ label.
It doesn’t mean that Forsett won’t get his share of the carries.
