The Seattle Seahawks announced that they have signed UW product offensive tackle Joe Toledo this afternoon.

The Seahawks, as I mentioned in earlier posts, lack depth at offensive tackle. And Toledo, a former tight end with the Huskies, had been working at right tackle with the second unit during the team’s minicamp over the weekend.

The Seahawks also announced that they have signed cornerback Chris Richards, who attended the minicamp as well.

Seattle released linebacker Reggie Carter and long snapper Patrick MacDonald, and they will be replaced on the roster by Toledo and Richards.

Eric, I see where Richards ran the fastest time at the Fordham pro day but I’m unable to find a number. I’m guessing in the high 4.4s. Do you happen to know for sure? Also, he’s listed as nearly identical height and weight as Jennings, is that a fair comparison from what you saw?

It would be nice if a former Husky can stick. Although with this being his 5 team my expectations are low. Still, as Eric said they need depth and Gibbs’ is here to teach so perhaps they can get something out of him.

  2. Dukeshire: Looks like 4.45 for Richards. Check it out here.

I watched this guy a little bit over the weekend. He’s got good feet and covers well, so the Jennings’ comparison sounds solid. I’ll have to watch him more during OTAs.

Thanks Eric. Goodness, 4.45 would have him tied with Brandon Ghee for fastest 40 time logged by a corner at the combine, had he run it there. Sounds promising and certainly a player worth holding on to. Can never have too much speed or depth at corner. (Can you have too much speed or depth at any position…?)

Joe Toledo…perfect name for an Olineman! I hope his game is as good as his name.

    Holy Toledo

Eric, are you aware of any positive comments about any of our draft picks below Golden or any of the other FA invitees (outside of these two)?

    IBGoofy,

I can help out with one of your questions.

The 14 UDFA’s were signed to contracts. In addition to that the team invited several players on a ‘try-out’ basis. These guys had not been signed to a contract. Toledo and Richards were two of the non contract envitees.

Of the non contract envitees only Toledo and Richards were signed. To make room on the roster, the team released two of the previously signed UDFA’s.

This is unrelated to anything Seahawk but it’s a pretty interesting story. After reading, watch the video. I’m not sure what kind of competition this guy was facing, but some of these blocks are comical. Also note how agile he seems to be.

Chuck – They also signed Chris Duvalt WR, Illinois from the try out list.

  11. IBGoofy says:

Any write up/comments by PC or staff on Toledo, Richards or Duvalt other than need of a warm body??? Others? Anyone sticking out other than our early draft picks???

  12. IBGoofy says:

Thx snydro, that’s been another blank area for us during the mini camp….
