Report: Denver WR Marshall, OG Hamilton headed to Seattle for visit

Looks like the Seahawks are raiding the Denver Broncos roster. Mike Klis of the Denver Post is reporting that Broncos unrestricted free agent Ben Hamilton is headed to Seattle for a visit. Hamilton played left guard for Denver and obviously is familiar with the zone blocking scheme, so maybe he becomes a replacement for Rob Sims should Seattle lose him in free agency.

Hamilton, 32, is a 10-year veteran who’s been with Denver his entire career.

Also, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is now reporting that Denver WR Brandon Marshall could be headed to Seattle on Saturday if the Seahawks can finalize an offer sheet for the receiver.

UPDATE: Jason La CanFora of the NFL Network is now reporting that indeed Marshall will be in town on Saturday.

  1. Denver needed to win their last game to make the playoffs and their coach benched Marshall. You might think the players would be ticked off by that move. Not so, according to the NFL channel. McDaniels talked to several players who backed his move.

Please Seattle, pass on this nut job.

  2. JazBadAzz says:

Pete knows what he’s doing, this is a new age where mediocroce will not be tolerated!

Brandon knows what’s at stake and I bet he just needs to leave those memories in the past and start his hall of fame campaign with the seahawks!

  3. BORNHAWK says:

Why wouldn’t you want a proven playmaker, you would be crazy to pass on him simply because he has had a hard ride in Denver. This guy is a beast and even when he was unhappy he still made plays for his team. As load as TJ is don’t think he can’t mentor young players because he has, the late Chris Henry changed his life around and I think TJ had a hand in that. We can’t loose on this.

  4. footballscaa says:

Hamilton, 10 years on the OL takes it’s toll. Hope they don’t throw large bills at him. As for Marshall, hasn’t he been nothing but a pain in the a$s for the Broncos? I think we already have one of those, I can’t give you his name, but his initials are TJ.

  5. cititravis says:

Giving up the # 14 is a no brainer here if that is what it takes. If B Marshall was in this draft he would be a top 5 pick he is what everyone is hoping dez bryant becomes. He got along fine with the previous bronco regime and will kill it in Seattle. We just need to get Matt some time in the pocket and this will be a much improved offense. This move makes everyone better think about Carlson, Butler, TJ, and Forsett this opens things up for all of them. I was not a big fan of his antics but this guy is TO in his prime right now. I say roll the dice that PC can control the off the field stuff.

  6. cititravis says:

Is it Saturday yet and has marshall signed……….please let it come quickly

  7. Seattle has the worst O line in the NFL. What good is Marshall when Matt doesn’t have time to throw him the ball? Seattle doesn’t have a running game to take pressure off the passing game. Their O line couldn’t run block for the San Jose Spartans. There is a huge need for an upgrade at corner, safety and the D line and you want to waste a first round pick on a locker room cancer like Marshall?

  8. Dukeshire says:

Chris Henry changed his life? What, 7-8 months tops. Yes it’s a start and he was making an effort but let’s get real. And Marshall has had issues with two staffs in Denver, his behavior isn’t isolated. Allowing either the 6th or 14th as compensation is too much to give, even for Marshall’ productivity. This is not a team that can afford to give those picks away. If they were closer to being genuine contenders or even competitive, that would be a different story. 9 wins in two years folks. That is a lot further away than a temperamental play maker at WR, IMO. I would like him, but not for the firsts.

  9. seahawklovertoo says:

Someone else posted this elsewhere about PCs move for Marshall : “How about because that wide receiver is an absolute mess off the field with 7 or 8 arrests / incidents in the last 3 or 4 years, has acted in totally immature fashion time after time, and you don’t know if the guy will even make it through TC before ending up in jail again ?

Not to mention severe psychological problems because he seems to blame himself for his friend’s death, and that he going to find getting out of Denver isn’t going to make that guilt go away.

Marshall is a nutcase, good luck to whoever signs him.

  10. What I want to know is how in the hell did Detroit work that deal for Burle so quickly? Seems like they were in discussions before the FA preriod began at 11PM Detroit time last night.

  11. seahawklovertoo says:

Even though an WR corps that include T.J. Marshall and Butler seem very promising , I wouldn’t give 1st. rounder for him. UNDER THE RULES ,IT IS OUR # 6 AND NOT OUR #14 THAT WE HAVE TO GIVE FOR HIM. People, wake the fuq-up !!!
The fact is that Marshall will not be a Donkey in ’10 b/c Denver will not be able to stop the poison pill from Ravens(#24) or the Jets(#29).
Now, if the Donkies want him out of AFC and include their #46 + 5th rounder, or a decent player to go with Marshall…..(maybe Clady….wink-wink BobbyK), than I’d be OK on taking chance on this guy for our #6. ( That way PC can’t get Clausen—-I hope).

  12. If we were to trade for Marshall and sign Hamilton, that will tell me that the franchise is serious about taking the West back in ’10. Hamilton is definitely on the wrong side of 30, but he still has a couple of band-aid years left in him. He immediately becomes our best guard (which isn’t saying much). He played at Minnesota and I have followed his career a bit because of it and he’s certainly not a bad option if he comes at a reasonable price. He understands what Gibbs will want, and that is important. If these two moves happen, I am quite confident that Matt will be a Seahawk in 2010 (as there has been unsubstantiated speculation stating otherwise). Again, both moves are curious if the team is in full fledged rebuilding mode, which tells me we aren’t and are playing to win soon.

  13. seahawklovertoo says:

Yeah,Audible !!! Specially since Schwartz (correct spelling?) spent last night camped outside K.VanDerBosh ‘s house (per : AP) in order to “steal” him away from Tennessee.

  14. NFL Rumors has it that we must give up our #6 pick if we take Marshall and Denver doesn’t match our offer…… see:

    http://www.prosportsdaily.com/nfl/nfl-rumors.html

I have absolutely no idea why we are even looking at Marshall…. C’mon PC/JS, don’t mess us up with this…. This doesn’t sound good at all…

  15. With the age of Matt Hasselbeck and the idea we can win now, I am excited about Marshall/Hamilton.

But, like others, I’m not excited about trading a #1 for Marshall.

But I don’t know how responsible this decision is (to put the band-aids on and go for a Super run when we seem to be lacking some overall talent).

  16. I like the move on Hamilton, and I fully agree with you Bobby, that PC is looking to be competitive right away… The way he’s interviewed, that’s the direction I was expecting…. I still harbor the idea PC took the Hawk position “because’ he felt he could do that with some decent coaching around him … snakebit by injuries 2 yrs in a row, if done right, I’m still one of the believers also….

As we have so many positions to upgrade, and essentially no cap, expecting only a year (maybe 2?) from a free agent isn’t unreasonable…..

  17. hambone08 says:

A vet who’s fought in the trenches for 10 years and a stud WR with off-the-field issues, who by the way will most likely cost way too much to bring to town? I’ll pass and rebuilt via the draft

  18. hambone08 says:

One more thought: Matt Millen isn’t working in our FO is he…Haha

  19. yankinta says:

My offer to Denver, We’ll trade Branch straight up for Marshall. Take it or leave it.

  20. vichawkfan says:

post TR era – bring in TALENT and not ALTER boys……DO IT!!

When you listen to him talk during interviews, he comes across more normal than most jack off’s….humble even. If he grows up, he’ll be the best WR in the league, as long as we can throw it to him.

  21. BORNHAWK says:

    Duke,
Regardless of the length of time Henry had changed his life the fact of the matter is that he was before it was cut short. I have always respected what you have said on this blog but that was a low blow. We all have problems in are past and you have to give a person credit for changing regardless of the length of time, shame on you.

  22. Anyone seen any more on the rumors of an Atogwe/Hawks connection????

  23. nighthawk2 says:

Hamilton? Didn’t we learn anything from Mike Wahle about signing someone’s discarded over 30 guards?

  24. maddog12 says:

Marshall is very attractive but we need an oline. A second rounder would be OK but not our first. Unless we get something else from Denver.

I wonder if this visit isn’t more a job interview than a welcome to the Hawk family. Sando seems to think it might be and he thinks it should be less than a first rounder.

PC don’t give him the offer sheet yet. Discuss terms. Get promises to block and not whine about getting the ball. Ask him how he likes punting ifyou must but don’t give up our first. Make a better deal.

He is not worth our #6 overall.

  25. What if we were to trade down? if we traded the #6 pick, for something like a late 1st and a late second, then get Marshall; it would mitigate the loss of the #6 a little. We would get a proven playmaker, and a 2nd round at least.
