The Seattle Seahawks officially announced the hiring of John Schneider as general manager. Here’s the press release.

Renton, Wash. – The Seattle Seahawks named John Schneider general manager, the team announced today.

Schneider, 38, joins the Seahawks after spending the previous eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He served as personnel analyst to the general manager before being named director- football operations in 2008.

Schneider broke into the NFL in 1992 as an intern with Green Bay before being promoted to pro personnel assistant the following season. He played a vital role in signing several free agents who helped the Packers make back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, including a Super Bowl XXXI victory.

Schneider spent three seasons as director of player personnel in Kansas City (1997-99), one in Seattle (2000), and a year with the Washington Redskins as vice president of player personnel (2001).

A graduate of the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., Schneider played football for one season before a shoulder injury cut short his career. He and his wife, Traci, have two sons, Ben and Jack.

Welcome to Seattle Mr. Schneider glad to have you.

Read about this guy on the Packers website and was very impressed by his work there. Hopefully that carries over to Seattle for the 12TH MAN!!!

That’s great, thanks for posting that.

  3. It just dawned on me……………. If we had fired Whitsitt one year earlier, we might very well have had Ted Thompson as our GM the last few years instead of Ruskell.

  4. tkballer22 says:

He’s just a good ol’ boy, right? We hired Bo Duke as our GM..Kick ASS!

  5. If he went to St. Thomas in St. Paul, he’d be more like a rich snob who thinks he’s better than others (if he’s stereotypical). Hey, at this point, as long as the ‘Hawks improve, I don’t care anymore.

  6. Welcome Mr Schneider.
We only expect you to fix all of the previous administrations blunders and to not make any mistakes and to Win the Super Bowl Every Year!!!
    Good Luck
    Now Get to Work!!!

Is Gray confirmed? He was reported to have not yet signed.

  8. I hope he brings one of those green bay safeties with him.

  9. Dukeshire says:

    … or corners.

  10. Will the presser be webcast today?

  11. nighthawk2 says:

As poorly as the defense played last season, I think it’s a mistake to keep Bradley, or anyone else, from Mora’s staff. Regarding Schneider, if he can judge good football talent and doesn’t have his own agenda, that’s all I ask from him. No more 1st round picks like Kelly Jennings or Lawrence Jackson or Chris Spencer, no more bogus trades and no more signing over-the-hill veterans to big contracts.

  12. ChrisHolmes says:

    Agreed Nighthawk2
